Who was that?
@@kevinp.h8655 the protagonist of the movie Up
Amazing story, however "On October 6, 1993, at the age of 44, Walters committed suicide by shooting himself in the heart in Angeles National Forest"
Sorry, someone just had to say it. As I read his story, I wished for a happy ending. I was disappointed.
why'd he do it?
RagingHammer we don’t know, he never left a note.
His girlfriend had left him after 15 years and he was having a hard time finding employment. Perhaps he felt lonely, disenfranchised and without a purpose. Choosing to shoot himself in the heart (as opposed to the head) perhaps is a statement in itself.
He was a 44-year-old man. What do you think?
He should have just strapped himself to another lawn chair and floated away

Larry is surely one of the only human beings ever to sit in a chair, sip a drink, and enjoy [a view of Los Angeles from 16,000 feet] - not behind a window, safe from the elements, but through the naked eye. If the clouds got out of the way and he looked toward the ocean, he could have seen, just barely, the curveature of the Earth. He got all of us with the “I guess it’s free” lol
I've unironically never heard of that line before
@@adanactnomew7085 I work as a cashier in Italy and I hear it quite often. Ironically I thought it was an Italian thing
in Spain it's not a thing at all. whenever things fail to scan, the costumer waits (either awkwardly or comfortably and in relief of some free time), while the cashier either manually punches the barcode number onto the machine, or asks another more knowledgeable cashier on how to introduce the unrecognized product onto the classification system, upon which it can almost instantly be billed normally, if appearing with a distorted name in the receipt.
I'm embarrassed to admit I recently made that joke while at a grocery store.
I used to get so tired of that joke when I worked as a cashier and every one who used it thought they were the only one that ever thought of saying it.

"what laws did I break?"
"well yes, but technically no"
Gary Oldman: EEEVERYOOONE!
who is here after mistakes 3?
Sad, tragic man. But, he singlehandedly started a new sort of "sport", using relatively small helium balloons tied to a chair in order to fly. It's remarkable. And it's remarkable he got that high up and did not end up in the Pacific Ocean!

When HAI tries to make a video not about planes:
How have I never thought of the "i guess it's free" joke. Freak, now i gotta go do that to a cashier instead of self checkout
"We don't know what laws he broke but he definitely broke SOME of them."
Who else came here from his mistakes video?
George Cayley: I am the father of aviation.
Lawnchair Larry: *Are you challenging me?*
"...In a CZcams video, by a very cool and fun channel, called Jon Bois."
"Oh, and some other shmuck"

Me after already having seen the Jon Bois one: The Expert 😎
Hey I'm a comment about Jon Bois I heard he's Pretty Good
Okay, that dude was freaking savage!
I really love the dry humor sprinkled in your videos! Keep it up
Also worth noting - he took his own life not long after. I think he’d been that overwhelmed after the experience, we can only imagine what he went through.
According to Wikipedia, he committed suicide about 11yrs later. There is a mention of him breaking up with his GF and not easily finding work. Maybe the experience itself had little to do with it, it sounds like too big of a gap to be the main motivation. I can only speculate, but maybe he felt too lonely after the breakup and upset he couldn't find good work. Maybe he was still dreaming of flying and felt it wouldn't materialize. It is unfortunate regardless!
WATCH THE JON BOIS VIDEO
"...he got to be on Late Night with David Letterman, in an ad for Timex, and eventually in a CZcams video...."
Oh, and he was also the subject of a tested myth on MythBusters. In one of the original pilot episodes, in fact.

Next Wendover episode: The logistics of balloon chair flights.
I remember when Disney/PIXAR's Up first came to theaters they advertised it on an episode of America's Funniest Home Videos by putting Tom Bergeron in a chair with helium balloons.
