- After a disappointing 22/23 campaign, Jürgen Klopp will look to revitalise his Liverpool side to ensure they challenge for the Premier League title and make a return to the Champions League. With new midfield signings in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, a new role for Trent Alexander-Arnold and a fully fit attacking lineup that includes the likes of Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Mo Salah, Klopp definitely has the ingredient to make it work…So today, Statman Dave takes a look at the possible lineups, tactics and transfers we could see from Liverpool ahead of the 23/24 Premier League…

The person who will thrive the most is Nunez because these 2 Cams will find him where he likes to be . I think Nunez will be getting 15-20 goals this season and we definitely need that LCB when Virgil isn’t healthy or also when we play this make shift back 3 to help out Virgil . This year the Players that have to Shine are Virgil being dominant , Konate being Half of what Virgil is . Fabinho has to be Solid again . And the new 8s have to press . We cover the defensive end and we can go back to being the undefeated squad we were . Scoring goals gets you top 4 but getting Clean sheets wins you Trophy’s

I think they should Take out jota in this lineup and use a more Defensive Player. Szoboszlai should start at the left and invert while Robertson push high. They Need a Other Player on the back 3 than Robertson. Mabey the should start Arnold at midfield and use a more Defensive rightback like gomez or a new One. The Other Option is startend with Arnold at rightback and invert while Fabinho Drops in the back three, but in this case they have to start Thiago or Sign a new midfielder
Scoring goals gets you top 4 but getting Clean sheets wins you Trophies. Amen to that. Couldnt have put it better 👍
If they don't sign the CB and CDM they'll still be leaking goals.

Some top class analysis. I think Liverpool did excellent to get Mac Allister. Hes such a top class player.
Nunez primarily needs to do two things, both which made Klopp drop him last season:
1. Improve defensively and understanding the tactical element of when to press and when not to. Nunez' pressing stats are worrying and needs major improvement.
2. Learning English. He knew little to none when he first arrived, but it looks like he's getting better and better. Klopp expects improvements, but if not, Nunez will not play.
Nunez wasn’t even dropped last season he just got injured, and the last two games where he couldn’t play at all due to injury we tied

@@donyoung333the finishing will come, the season before signing för Liverpool he overperformed his xG by alot. He is a good finisher and I think he will start to score his chances this season
I think his hold up play and his decision making is the most important. And yes learning English is very important
That idea of Fabinho dropping into a back 3 is a really interesting one that I don't think anyone has considered.. It would allow both TAA to invert into a free roaming double pivot position he likes and allow Robertson to bomb forward, as opposed to relegating him to a LCB he's not really made for. It would also kind of hide Fab's loss of pace by putting him already in defensive position, I think? I would love to see more of that until LFC finds a 6 for the future.
Looking at that box, I think what we might see is TAA pushing further up forward with Fab and Mac Allister sitting in front of VVD and Konate. This would help Klopp use Mac's ball recovery and put less pressure on Trent's defensive responsibility.

It's also a more natural way to switch to a diamond midgame, like Pep had to do in the CL final to keep a marauding CDM (Brozovic) in check.

If it wasn’t for the homegrown issue I think Lukeba would’ve been a great choice as a left footed cb. Been touted as the gvardiol replacement for Leipzig, has rapid recovery pace which is important for liverpools high line and is good on the ball. Also think Florentino luis is another good option for cdm
Szoboszlai to be the signing of the summer imo. His ability is higher than any midfielder we've had in a long time! You very rarely get someone as talented as him with that workmanlike mentality as well.
With Trent, Szoboszlai, mac Allister, Thiago, gakpo, Jones etc.. there's a scary amount of creative talent. That said, I'm hoping Jones isn't just shunted out the team. The new signings should have to fight their way in and he's more than deserved not to be dropped. A chance to set a precedent, that you have to fight for your position. If he's dropped, it sends a bad message.
My only worry, is that if Konate gets injured, we've nobody else with the kind of defensive ability to cover trent.

Liverpool 2 missing pieces is levi colwill and lavia, if they can manage to get these two they will be a massive force in the prem for the next 10 years

They would be incredible long term signings but they wouldn't be enough to push for the title this year. Replace Salah & Robertson and Liverpool are literally set for the next decade as you said!

@@Southwestmo bastoni just renewed and aguerd had a serious knee injury. Id love bastoni, colwill or inacio, but the only realistic one is inacio in my opinion.

Can see why Liverpool are apparently willing to pay over 60M for Colwill, with him that first 11 is as good as it gets. So well balanced
I agree on the Jones, Szoboszlai, MacAllister midfield. I think that's going to be Klopps preferred midfield with Trent inverting as the 4th in the box 4. I also think that Klopp will have Fabinho drop into the center of defense. MacAllister's versatility and experience at playing as a 6, Fabinho's experience in central defense compared to Robertson and Fabinho's inability to cover that much space anymore makes it a must if you play him

Finally the liverpool one! A little disappointed you didnt dive into any realistic options at cdm or lcb, but the tactics are spot on. Would love colwill or bastoni, but i dont think either is realistic. Also, I still believe in fabinho, but i do think we should get insurance, jusy not sure who we'd go for. Would've just loved to raid sporting with inacio and ugarte.

I'm a great admirer of Barella. Lavia would be amazing signing though but not sure he'll keep up and fill the role of Fabinho and Henderson.
I want a strong midfielders. For the coming season we don't need Cb or any forward. We just need four midfielder as we're losing Fabinho, Henderson, Milner,Ox snd Keita.
However, we can go for Cb in winter transfer.

I concern to see robertson need to change of role of that maybe not be the best out of him . Maybe buy ankther right back but instead a defensive one that will be 3rd Cb so robertson can push as Wing-back but that's mean TAA would be full a midfieder instead a inverted fullback . It is still 3512 but with right back as RCB in possesion
TAA has the potential to be like Kimmich and Lahm. And I think even Reece James can move into midfield if I’m not mistaken Lampard said the same thing it just depends on if James can overcome these injury issues because he’s a better defender then Trent. And before you guys come at my neck I’m a United fan

Fabinho absolutely needs to be phased out of the team slowly, thats why we need that CDM. my fear is that, like Bajcetic, Lavia is very young. I would prefer a more mature finished product, like an Amrabat, But I'll take Lavia, 100%. we also need a Robertson replacement. I don't think he suits this new system at all, so Colwill would be perfect.
I still think Jota is best as a number 9, then you can play Gakpo or Diaz or even Nunez on the left, they all work. I think if Jota plays, he should play as the number 9. he is a box striker, like Haaland, a poacher. Nunez is best when he gets to run at the goal, which makes him perfect for the left wing. Gakpo is fantastic as the false 9, Bobby Firmino role and I think this will be used most this season.

We’re rebuilding & we want the right players & not just squad fillers.Levi Colwell is a Liverpool fan since a young lad.We like him & he loves LFC So he could be the eventual replacement for VVD.
The "problem" area in that setup is actually a wasted Robertson.
with how many players leaving 5 up to now and talk of Henderson going and Fabinho its a lot of players out the door not talking about how good they where talking about squad depth so for me if LFC only get one more player in say another midfield player think finishing higher than they did last season say 4 would be ok if get two players in midfield and defender would improve us more

Since you make this video fab looks like he's going and hendo is staying put. If we move Robbo into midfield move then we are going to need a new right back now. Can't just play with 3 defencers.
I think everyone’s forgetting Connor Bradley
Trent isnt a world class pivot player, yes you can shoehorn him in there when the entire midfield has lost the ability to run but if you had 26 year old Hendo and Gini in there you would have never seen this pivot, the breakdown of the system was because of a midfield with multiple players injured on and off all season and aging players being asked to play 2019 counterpress intensity
i reckon with Mac and Szobz it would be far easier to go back to 433 plus both of them can offer a bit more creativity behind the strikers which we lack when Thiago is on one of his inevitable 6 week injuries
