  • Sri KVN sir is one of the best vocalist I have heard. I had the great fortune learn from him during my time in the Tamil Nadu Government Music college. There is a lot I can write about this great musician. There will be no replacement for Sri.KVN Sir.

    Superb ! Paramatmudu Ragam Vagdeshwari 34th Mela Adi Talam Thyagarajar Krithi
    In this kruti Tyagaraja implores us to listen to the pleasant stories about the splendour of the Almighty manifesting in infinite number of ways. The kRti is set to a very melodious rAga so appropriately chosen by SrI tyAgarAja to express the mood; it seems to flow so beautifully and naturally. If the musicians who render this kRti contemplate on the meaning even very briefly, it will transport both the renderer and the listener to ecstasy. If one proof is required to justify the statement that the kRtis of SrI tyAgarAja are equivalent to upanishads, this kRti satisfies it. This is believed to be one of Thyagaraja's final krithis where he shares the ecstasy of being with Paramathma. At this point, his Jeevathma was slowly merging into Paramathma according to Advaita. This krithi conjures the image of Srimannarayana and His consorts who are awaiting our arrival to SriVaikuntham. Which is why I don't delay in chanting the Dwaya Mantram. I hope I do reach my ultimate goal which is Him.
    Know unerringly the grandeur with which the Supreme Lord is effulgent!
    Know unerringly the grandeur with which the Supreme Lord is effulgent as vishNu, as Siva, as celestials, as men, and as entire millions of universes - in (and as) all these.
    Know unerringly the grandeur with which the Supreme Lord is ever effulgent -
    in millions of (animate and inanimate) - animals, birds, mountains and trees - made up of (five elements) - the space, air, fire, water and earth;
    with (three) qualities as well as bereft of or beyond qualities;
    (OR in good qualities as well as bad qualities);
    (OR with form as well as without form); and
    in this pious tyAgarAja and others who have sought refuge in Him.

    Ragam Vagadeshwari :- This is another Melakarta Ragam 34th Mela and not heard often. It is also called Bhogachayanata in the Deekshitar School. There does not appear to be any Hindustani Raga close to this ragam. It is the 4th rāgam in the 6th chakra Rutu. The mnemonic name is Rutu-Bhu. The mnemonic phrase is sa ru gu ma pa dhi ni.[1] Its ārohaṇa-avarohaṇa structure (ascending and descending scale) is as follows (see swaras in Carnatic music for details on below notation and terms):
    • ārohaṇa: S R3 G3 M1 P D2 N2 S
    • avarohaṇa: S N2 D2 P M1 G3 R3 S
    The swaras shatsruthi rishabham, antara gandharam, shuddha madhyamam, chathusruthi dhaivatham and kaisiki nishadham are used in this scale. As Vagadheeshwari is a melakarta rāgam, by definition it is a sampoorna rāgam (has all seven notes in ascending and descending scale). It is the shuddha madhyamam equivalent of Nasikabhooshani, which is the 70th melakarta scale.
