    The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has a Skull Kid. Majora's Mask has a Skull Kid. But why does he have a lantern in the former? Could it be that this lantern is a Poe lantern? But the question remains: who's lantern is it?

    Such a bittersweet story. The Skullkid was full of regret after what he had done in Termina, and Link remained his friend. Then when Link died, full of regrets, Skullkid was there for him. • @SPKotN
    @SPKotN Před 3 lety +134

    This makes sense, especially if the Hero of Time died in the Lost Woods.
    Building on your theory of who killed him, if someone/thing killed the Hero of Time, and lived, the only logical place that could happen is in the Lost Woods. No one would have heard of it. Link just would have went missing one day, and even if he told someone he was going into the Lost Woods, when he didn’t return, they feared the worst, never knowing the truth of it.
    Even if the Hero of Time DID defeat what killed them, and was severely wounded, if he was in the Lost Woods, not even the Skullkid could get him out to find help in time.
    I’d like to think the Hero of Time died protecting the Kokiri from something lurking in the Woods. Something only kept at bay by the presence of a Great Deku Tree. With this theory, it means he didn’t die alone, and rather with an old friend by his side. A friend who promised to find his successor, and test them to make sure they were worthy of being called “Hero”.

    • @alexandrac6177
      @alexandrac6177 Před 3 lety +12

      I feel that link is shown as a Stalfos for a reason; he either died in the Lost Woods looking for Navi, or after death his spirit remained in the Lost Woods, for the same purpose.
      I’d like to think that, towards the end of his life, he had one primary regret, and it was that he never reunited with Navi. When he returns to find her, he instead finds Skull Kid. Knowing Link’s fate for staying, but being willing to stay with his friend, Skull Kid sticks by his side and shepherds his soul around after his death.

    • @emmaspencer4586
      @emmaspencer4586 Před 3 lety +6

      @@alexandrac6177 Personally, I think that the hero's shade's apperance should be taken symbolically rather than at face value. Take his height for example. Yes, Link was in a seven year coma which could explain why he isn't as tall, but at the same time, Link has always been a pretty short guy and I think the reason the hero's shade is just so much taller than his descendant is to symbolize the sheer scope of knowledge and experience between the two. The Hero of Twilight has big shoes to fill and the height of the hero's shade is there to show that.
      As for why he's covered in leaves and looks a little worse for wear, I think that's just supposed to symbolize just how long he has waited for the Hero of Twilight to come so he can pass on his skills to his descendant. Literal centuries have passed since Majora's Mask and the Hero of Time's skeletal apperance could be to show the Hero of Twilight that, yeah, this is no joke. He has waited centuries for Link to come and he needs to take it seriously. Not because he actually became a stalfos or anything.

    • @Absolute_Zero7
      @Absolute_Zero7 Před 2 lety +4

      @@alexandrac6177 Important to keep in mind that assuming the Hero's Shade is indeed a Stalfos (which is debatable to begin with), that sort of proves that Link could not have died looking for Navi. When children die in the Lost Woods (around the age of young link), they become skull kids. If Link did indeed die in the Lost Woods, it would've been when he was already an adult, and unless we assume he spent 7-10 years looking for Navi nonstop, its likely that he died for a completely different reason.

    @thegreatherox Před 3 lety +80

    Something I'd like to add to this theory: I believe this skull kid is immortal because he wore the Majora's Mask, thus embedding him with power he wouldn't have had otherwise. That would explain why there appear to be no other skull kids in the woods, or why he isn't accompanied by either Tatl or Tael in twilight princess

    • @emmaspencer4586
      @emmaspencer4586 Před 3 lety +19

      I actually think he was already immortal beforehand. There's a story in Majora's Mask that Anju's grandmother reads to you about the four giants, and in it an imp is involved, which by the end of the game is proven to be the skull kid. The story likely takes place centuries before Majora's Mask, so I'm pretty sure immortality was something he already had.

      Yeah, it is hands down the easiest zelda game ever. very linear. very little exploration. very unchallenging combat. I was more excited for the game than anyone when it first came out, but I was very quickly disappointed with it. I didn't see the game over screen until the part where you carry a bomb across hyrule field (iirc) and it got blown up once, causing a loss. I never failed after that, and never died. It was such a boring experience. The only thing that made it bearable was the awesome story and atmosphere. It is easily my least favorite zelda game, and I've played and beaten them all.

    • @Kaempfdog
      @Kaempfdog Před 3 lety +36

      @@avengingme strong words. I personally love it. The combat was in my opinion very fun with all the hidden abilities, and 100% completion is difficult and a joy. The temples are revamped versions of the ocarina ones with extra flare and had me thinking the whole time from just all the gorgeous locations. Plus Hyrule Field offered a TON of exploration if you ask me and I was always looking for stuff.
      It's biggest downside is the unfortunate large reliance on the zelda formula. Yeah predicting all the bosses before they happened kinda sucks time to time and makes them a bit on the easy side. But they made sure to make them hit HARD to punish mistakes. That and the redundant explanations are WORSE in this game in my opinion than in Skyward Sword. Re-explaining even green ruppees, and sitting through the retrieval of all 60 poe souls which was significantly more tedious and obnoxious than the gratitude crystals. But less boring than the 100 gold skulltulas.
      BUT there was just as much fun stuff inside the game as well. Minigames were great, twilight realm although kinda meh in comparison to the silent realms offered great insight to the world and added extra terror of the already dark game. And HANDS DOWN my favorite Ganondorf battle with an unusual twist where he has ABSOLUTELY no interest in Link like every other appearance he has consciousness. Until the final phase he's trying to protest to Zelda and Midna's method of ruling and approach to magic. Then and ONLY then does he take interest in Link. It's just a fascinating game. Really laid the groundwork for Skyward Sword's direction of story.

    • @emmaspencer4586
      @emmaspencer4586 Před 3 lety

      @@trebmaster I'm pretty sure that the skull kid was already immortal beforehand. In the story Anju's grandmother tells you, she talks about the four giants and a lonely imp, who by the end of the game is proven to be the skull kid. The story likely takes place centuries before Majora's Mask, so I think he was already immortal. In fact, I'm pretty sure that skull kids themselves are just kokiri children who got lost in the woods without a fairy, and this is the form they take on. Perhaps their fairy died or their fairy still hadn't come to them when it happened, who knows. Regardless though, I agree with the idea that Majora's Mask affected the skull kid in a way, despite the fact that it was no longer controlling him. I like the comparison to Gollum, but rather than giving him immortality/a longer lifespan, which he already had, it changed his physical features, or maybe some of it's magic was absorbed into the skull kid.

    I always assumed his face looked like that in Twilight was because in Majoras mask it was the after effects of what the mask put him through. Because something that evil on your face has to leave something on the wearers face you think? Or maybe they (skull kids) do have some effects physically wise in time.My first play through I imagined that the hero of time was mortally wounded, made it back to a place familiar (the lost woods) and in his final days or moments the skull kid was with him. I would say that the hero had that lantern with a captured Poe in it. Maybe he had it because the hero was going to sell it like he did in OoT. The hero would have wanted to give him something as a thank you for being with him or something before he died. Skull kid wouldn’t want weapons or coins. Skull Kid probably laid the hero’s body to rest somewhere in the woods, like near the master sword. He honored his friend as he helped the new hero in Twilight Princess. That’s just my theory.
