  • This video World Champion Margot Ciccarelli from Unity Jiu Jitsu goes through one of her favorite back take variations that she refers to as the Zen Bolo. This sequence is a great alternative to a classic bolo that sometimes can be a bit harder to set up, this version is very slow and easy to control all the way through. I hope you like the video and please comment if you have any questions.

The way Mars explains things is beyond fascinating. She constantly tries to focus on the smallest details and make complex techniques look and feel simple!

Hi Jon, what do you think of getting a twister hook after the 8:15 roll?

In this modified leg drag position, she has already passed the guard. Why risk loosing an advantageous position for an uncertain bolo back take?

CC Cowboy so in that position the leg drag is not fully complete people in that situation often can pull their knee back to chest tight to defend and make it difficult the re roll counters this and exposes the back. Additionally taking the back is more dominant as well if you can achieve it.

It all about making different opening and having multiple options. Dynamic Jiujitsu is high level jujitsu. You’re not gonna jus try and pass if you get denied what do you do? Just keep pressing to pass? No you hit the leg drag then you hit the bolo and go back. Change the direction and stay 2 steps ahead. Keep your opponent guessing.

She's really good ,but that's not new stuff. Rafa has used this modified (someone call it reverse) legdrag to enter in a "Miyao roll" berimbolo. I'm not sure if in men high level competition you can smash this way the opponent to do the roll, imho the far hook and the grip fight to short the distance are still the most important details. The setup position is more interedting in my opinion, with the control of the inner space instead of a normal dlr hook. Just my opinion.

Yeah she trains with miyaos a lot I don’t think she is suggesting she invented this movement she just referred to it as zen to emphasize the calm mind set behind this style.

Yeah she trains with the miyao I don’t think she is suggesting she invented it, she just used that name to express the mind set behind it as more calm.
