Hi! Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I have been wondering the same thing. Talking with my mother-in-law it's mostly due to the taste yeast provides. It's a recipe that has been passed down her whole life, so a lot of the "reasons" have gotten lost. I understand that both do the same function, but I can say from trial/error they do come out fluffier with the addition of baking powder. Not the best answer...but something. Thank you so much for watching.
