Crocodile Dundee 2: A Hugely Underrated Sequel?

- When a movie is as big as Crocodile Dundee, you better believe there will be a sequel. In fact, audiences that rented a VHS tape of the movie back in 1987 had a little introduction before the film, teasing the fact that a sequel was in the works, something all of us kids who grew up on this movie were psyched by. When Crocodile Dundee 2 hit theaters in May 1988, it was massively successful, setting a record for having one of the biggest openings of all time. Yet, nowadays it's considered a mostly inferior sequel to the classic original, something we disagree with here on JoBlo. What our video to see why and let us know in the comments if you agree!

I always had a soft spot for this movie, it's just as entertaining as the original. The third installment, on the other hand...
Haha guilty pleasure of mine though
@@DonDarkz People like what they like. I watched ‘Here Comes The Boom’ grinning like an idiot.
That's not a sequel.
*That's* a sequel.
@@Rick_Cleland oh that is good!
I love 1 and 2 equally! Watched them both countless times!
Me too. I learned to curse from the first one 😅 and I can’t imagine a better sequel 🤷♂️
I liked Crocodile Dundee II just as much as the first. It was interesting how it went New York City back into the Australian Outback.
As a young Aussie living in North America, this movie was the cheapest and most accessible way for me to visit home.
This movie works as a better follow up to “Romancing the Stone” than “Jewel of the Nile” did.
During your post Dundee section you should have mentioned Lightning Jack. I have no idea if anyone else loves that movie but I certainly do and what good is leaving a comment if I can't rant about want I want! But seriously Lightning Jack is a fun movie and deserves a mention in my humble opinion. 😊
I remember seeing it on cable. Co-starred Cuba Gooding Jr. as a mute if I remember correctly?
Loved it then, love it now, childhood memories.
You made me realize what I did on my 24 Birthday. It was May 25 1988. I was at the opening of this movie.
For sure! Part 2 is awesome!
I don't remember much about the first film, but I remember the second one constantly played on CBS every other Friday nights back in my teens. I do remember Linda Kozlowski, though. I had a huge crush on her back in the days. 😅
so did we all
I have part 2 on VHS already and i'm proud to owning this underrated sequel on VHS
Thank You Joblo For This Video
You Guys Are Awesome
I always loved this film, brings back a lot of memories. The Angel movie is great for those who havent seen it!
Paul Hogan was also in a Western Comedy called Lightning Jack in 1994.... And it was a decent movie imo.
Better than pt 3
but still a crappy sequel, shamelessly tried to cash in on the original's success without any creativity
I’ve always said this about Crocodile Dundee 2 that it’s one of the best sequels of all time. I also have a soft spot for this movie because I remember seeing it with my late grandpa on a rare one on one outing. The ending with that score gets me every time.
To. This. Day.
Whenever anyone in my family is cooking anything, we ask if its good, and the answer is:
"Nah, needs Gaaaahlic"
Used to have this taped to vhs. I remember it well. Always felt like two whole movies, the first ending after the storming of the mansion. My favorite part was when he got the help from the gang. A true classic.
After seeing the three Crocodile Dundee films, it's funny how each is rather different in genre. The first was more of a 'fish out of water' romantic comedy, the second closer to a straight action-adventure movie, and the third feels most like a pilot episode for 'quirky private investigator' TV series. 😎
It's a great sequel. Not as good as a first. But not all sequels can be Lethal Weapon 2, The Road Warrior or Terminator 2.
Both one and two, were brilliant Channel 4 in the uk show it every couple of months and i cant help but watch it,
"Some heavy dudes got my woman." -Mick
Crocodile Dundee 1 and 2 were two different types of movie. What made the sequel shift tone was the presence of murder. The most dangerous scene involving violence in the first film were a few brawls in a pub or alley, a thug hit at low speed with a limo, and a boomerang. The first lacked the action which the sequel supplied, though the sequel didn't possess the charm of the first. One isn't necessarily better than the other, as this would definitely come down to personal choice. I have a soft spot for the charm and originality of the first.
The music was perfect
The entire point in the series is how micks kindness seems to bring out the best in most people. Though he doesn't back down
Both movies were actually good. Sequel is a worthy follow-up to the character and story.
Just be sure that the omission of 'Lightning Jack' means that movie will get its own spotlight soon. That one was good fun!
In college I worked with an Australian guy in a warehouse job. One day I asked him to bring me a #9 box and he brought me a #8 instead, prompting me to use my middling Australian accent saying "That's not a nine... This is a nine!" 😂
Definitely not as good as the original but I still love this one. It's still alot of fun. Especially the 2nd half. 2nd half is better then the 1st half.
You must like the Aussie outback.
I don't much care for fish-out-of-water comedies so my favorite parts of both movies were the parts in Australia.
The Crocodile Dundee Trilogy Rulez✊🏻!
This movie is my favorite of the Dundee films.
Saw both first two movies in cinema, always liked both of them. The sequels has a few flaws, but it's way better than it's reputation.
I have the soundtrack for part 3 and it has some fun ones
the first film had the first BDSM scene in a main stream film 30 years before Shades of Grey
Thoroughly enjoyed this movie as a kid.
I saw Crocodile Dundee II first since it was rated PG in Australia while the first one was rated M (the Australian equivalent to PG-13), which meant I watched it when I was older. I always thought it was still pretty good and was almost an equal to the original since Paul Hogan was still in good form. Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles was a huge drop in quality since it came out far too late and was looking tired upon release.
Such an underrated movie.
Always felt this way. Such a good movie.
Saw the first one in Theaters as a kid. Watched the second one more times on VHS.
I haven’t seen these movies since I was an youngin in the early 90s. But I used to watch them a lot and they were awesome as a kid.
I wonder what I’d think as an adult now.
I've watched this more than the original. My grandparents had it on VHS and I remember it being a somewhat summer movie for me. Good memories.
Part 2 is my fav love the sequel
I have it on VHS and DVD.
I'm a big fan of both films, but they are different - the tone is broadly the same overall, but the balance of romantic comedy and action for the first one is completely changed for the second, which is basically an action movie with some comedy. And I think it's a better action movie than people often give it credit for - in the second half in particular, it's effectively Die Hard Down Under. I do think it's genuinely underrated, both compared with the original, and as a film in its own right, so it's good to see it get some coverage.
I had enjoyed this sequel more than anyone at the time, I guess. I never saw any issues with it, and having revisited it three or four years ago when I bought this one and the first one on DVD, and watched them back to back, I really enjoyed it that much more. It has some great sensibilities and the action portions of it don't feel out of place. What it did was raise the stakes, in the story and motivations, and I felt that it came out on top. I didn't care for the third one Crocodile Dundee in L.A. I think sequel seem to suffer when they go there. It's like a curse. One only has to remember and drudge up Escape From L.A. to understand this.
I absolutely adore this movie. I think it's every bit as good as the original.
It's just a different percentage of styles.
The first movie was a romantic comedy with some Adventure in it.
The second movie is an adventure comedy with a lot of romance.
I didn't even know they made a 3rd movie! Crikey!
omg i LOVE this movie, but it beat Beetlejuice? that's a thing
I loved this movie almost as much as the first one. Sadly, the gloss came off Hoges a bit when he left his wife, Noelene, for his co-star, Linda Kozlowski. There was a bit of a perception that Hoges had gone 'Hollywood' and betrayed his wife and his roots.
That's not a knife
I actually liked the 3rd one, even if it's not that great it has some fun moments. I remember seeing Flipper when I was a kid, pretty sure I watched it more than once? I think it was riding the fad of 'friendly sea animals' that was kicked off by Free Willy. I also saw Almost and Angel, though that was a lot more recent, I think on Amazon Prime?
Had no idea there was a third movie. I enjoyed the first two, though.
Need to give a first one a spin
Simply a great fun movie
I found this film much better than the original. So fun!!
I like this movie more than firtst one
I love this movie,.. just as much as the first.
If only the 3rd had been worth a shit 😓 it doesn't have the same feel to it at all
Both of them were great. The third didn't work partially because it were made too long after the first ones in a time it weren't 80's anymore.
Excellent films,
He's brilliant,
She's incredible
What's not to like?
Love the sequel. I saw it in cinemas when i was 11 years old 👍
honestly i thought if i watched the 3rd one i would fall asleep but i watched the whole movie ; wasn't nearly as bad as it should have been
I think the first movie is better, but this is still a great sequel. I even find the 3rd movie to be very watchable. This trilogy does deserve more credit.
I loved this movie
ye
I liked it as a kid
crocodile dundee II is great
yes, very tallll--love this movie, a most worthy sequel
This movie was on the same channel that played _the gods must be crazy_ ,USA channel on cable network maybe
I find the sequel even better than original
Craykee, that was a good film
I love those 2 movies,
I didnt Hate the third, I just thought it wasnt as good.
Great sequel.
Ive really if ever pnly watched the 2nd one
The villain Luis Rico was the best part of the sequel
Haha god no. One of my not so bright mates said he preferred this to the original and after finally watching the first one and being as pleasantly surprised as audiences must have felt in the 80s, I got around to watching the sequel. There’s a reason its RT score is so dour. It’s crap.
Crocodile Dundee 2 is better than the first one. A very good sequel.
These were the days.
That's not how you pronounce "Kozlowski".
Mel Gibson is American and Australian like I am. 🦘🐨😺
yeah but part 1 is so much better
Crocodile Dundee 2 may not have been as good as the original. It's a good movie. CD2 was done like an action movie in which Mick Dundee goes Rambo, and Dundee uses his hunting skills on the drug lord and his henchmen who kidnapped Sue and killed her ex husband. To be fair, Crocodile Dundee 2 was better than the disappointing Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles which killed the franchise.
ms. Kozlowski is gorgoeous in the past.
She amrried Hogan, got him from his wife and mass of kids, then divroced him.
Women, amd I right?
Now I live among crocodiles in the Everglades, and they call ME "crocodile" HA!
This was a good sequel. I don't understand all the hate
Dundee 3 was a disappointment. I think they could have done better than something so goofy.
No, not underrated. Just a bad sequel to an overrated movie.
You watched this yesterday on ifc didnt u? So did i! Lol the sequel is not good
Wrong. This is a great sequel
Sequel sucked
Disagree. Dundee Two strunk. He was a one hit wonder.
It is real good.
linda kozlowzky is so damn hot
That's not a knife
