About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

As a gardener I know the thrill of getting outside and sprucing things up. There's nothing quite like it, and you sleep like a baby afterwards. Wonderful job well done you happy bunch!
It really is! Thank you 🙏☺️
I’ve never seen a family work as hard as you all do. What an improvement and my goodness those gates are gorgeous.
Thanks Jane🥰
Tracey is like Wonder Woman! Go Tracey!!!
She is! Thank you 🙏☺️
I admire her greatly. Would like to be more like her. They all are a great team.
What a regal entrance. Beautiful estate. It’s such a pleasure to see something old made usable for the next generation.
Thank you 🙏☺️
I follow so many chateau vlogs but you are the hardest working of them all!
Thanks Alma 🥰🥰🥰
I’m imagining how splendid that entrance and drive looked 100 years ago,,,,very impressive 👏🏻🤗
Thanks Britta 🥰🥰
I hope there is a local farmer who could cut hay off that field. Would keep it cut and you could get a bit of money from the hay. Maybe give the hay money to Jonathans school. Win for everyone!
Thanks Paul :) yes our farmer helps us out 🥰
Great to get the driveway cleaned up & the gates exposed. 😊
Thanks Ann 🥰
Putting a good deep layer of white gravel down that driveway would solve the problem of puddles and make it lovely.
Gates are so pretty, with some sandblasting and paint, they’ll be beautiful and regal!
Thank you 🙏 😊
I have been a subscriber since near the beginning of your adventure and this morning I decided to take a "walk" back to the beginning of your adventure. As an old woman of 75 who had many adventures restoring an old farm house in Texas with my mother, I am encouraged to get off my couch and have more adventures. Your determination and dedication to sticking with an unfathomable task is inspiring. Seeing your dream come to pass makes me happy. I encourage you all to keep doing what you are doing. It is obvious that you communicate, plan, implement, recommunicate, replan, etc. Few people in this day and age have the ability to make their dream come true through so much hard work and adversity. My husband and I won't be coming to France this year. However, hopefully next year and we will definitely visit you.
Thank you so much for that and hopefully we can meet you next year 🥰🥰🥰
Are you going to modernize the driveway to that goes towards the gates
When Terry opened the pedestrian gate I got chillbumps running up and down my arms! What an achievement in reclaiming the chateau. I'm so excited for this entire process on the original gates and the drive. The view from the gates toward the chateau is so open now. Such a difference from your earliest videos. Great work all 'round!
Moms a power house! Great job to all of you for putting in a full days work all together and bring its glory back to life! Can’t wait to see the trees in full bloom, enchanting!
Would not be a video without Tracy hard at digging away all the dirt and rubble! Those gates are really cool and glad
That they are still standing
Great job. I think you should cut the big tree just behind the gate on the left site. It's to big and to close to the gate.
Love it that you’re back out in the gardens. What a difference a day of hard work makes. Great job!
Yes! Thank you!
That soil is beautiful! Years of neglect has given you wonderful composted earth.
I was thinking the same thing... what I wouldn't give for rich soil like that.
Terry, every day new Challengers and projects, every day your dream becomes more reality. Magnificente work as always.
Thanks again! 🥰🥰
Fantastic job Everyone 🥰
Thank you 🤗
Gives a sense of what times were like when these kind of houses were built. They had to put a big fence all the way around and lock up the gates to keep all the undesirables out.
Thank you 🙏 😊
What a fabulous driveway & gates with 2 pedestrian access gates still in place - wow! It is going such a statement driveway when you have all worked your incredible magic on it. Just one day's hard work has already transformed it and the grandeur is beginning to reveal 👍. Might I respectfully suggest .... that whilst you are on a roll with the project, the earliest removal of the v.large yew tree almost blocking one of the pedestrian access gates and a small tree one on the opposite side so that the roots etc. do not do any further damage to the beautiful stone gatepost structures etc. or beautiful paving stones, and that eventually guests and local visitors can use the pedestrian gates without hinderence. Obviously once you are using the driveway for access yourselves it will become more structured and less overgrown. What a project and how wonderful it will be when finished. VERY WELL DONE ALL.
Thanks so much Ju 🥰🥰
The gate would be nice with coach lanterns on top Terry
That was so great to see! That set of gates is a thing of beauty! The two side pedestrian doors and then the big gate in the middle is quite the setup! So if you have an Open Day at some point, and don’t want more vehicles on the property, you can control access at this gate!
Thank you very much! 🥰
Could have been a staff entrance at one point.
that drive!!!......thats plenty of exercise right there 😍😍😍😍
Haha. It used to be when we had the postbox up there 😂😂
@@chateaudelalacelle oh Christ 🤣🤣🤣
You're so lucky to have a clever and hard working mother. She's amazing!
I love this approach to the chateau. I suppose it isn’t practical but it surely sets off the property!
Thanks Jane 🥰
Just breathtaking. Love seeing it all come together. The work you are doing, bringing this old lady back to life, is just incredible. You should all be very proud!
A change is as good as a rest 😂 You probably felt like spring chickens getting outdoors and the joy meant more energy 😂🎉❤
It was amazing 🥰🥰
Nice having a long driveway with trees always has a statement .
It sure is. Thank you 🙏 😊
Very nice indeed, but you should consider having that tree close to the pillar professionally removed, the roots will eventually ruin the pillar -- and if a really bad storm knocked it over onto the gates, well, you get the picture...
Job well done, looks great. I know you’ve got a never ending jobs to do list but I’d add one more and that is to remove the large conifer at the very start of the drive. It’s the culprit for lifting the gate pillar and will continue to do so over time. By removing it you’ll also regain symmetry at the entrance and also more winter light and air flow while all the deciduous trees are dormant and naked.
It's a beautiful property! ❤
Amazing that you accomplished all this. The drive and gate now look fantastic! Happiest Spring
Thank you! ☺️
Tracy is such a hard worker. She reminds me of me getting out there getting our hands dirty. I bet the cedar smelled amazing and the grass is sooo green!
Thank you 🙏☺️
Those gates are a such good nic, you should consider getting them sand blasted before painting.
Absolutely 🥰
Beautiful! But I did miss Patrick. I loved how he would be right in there beside the big machinery and dig with his little paws frantically trying to keep up. Love him.
Thank you 🙏 😊
It's unusual to have 2 pedestrian gates, but I appreciate the symmetry. When you keep scraping back the dirt from the pavers, I suspect there to be a draining system or ditch underneath. It could be very helpful to reclaim them from the mud, so cars don't get stuck in wet weather.
Thanks Lora 🥰
Wow the gates are very impressive. A lick of paint will do the trick. So nice to be outside and enjoy the fine weather
Thank you 🙏 😊
A gas power washer and a wetsand blasting attachment for it would blast those gates to bare metal really quick
Thanks
A good sand blasting would bring those gates back! I see some gold paint happening soon❤
Thank you 🙏 😊
Beautiful old entrance for sure!
We think so too! 🥰
I see on the old gates that there is electricity.
Will you install so really nice and appropriate lamps that you might find
while on a shopping escape to the brocante?
Gate lamps sure would make a statement, yet sure are hard to find.
CONGRATULATIONS to you all for the hard work on the Long Drive.
Feet Up!
That's the plan! Thanks Kenn 🥰🥰
@@chateaudelalacelle, just remember to take the van and not the car when you go shopping. I wanna see grande lamps! lol
And make those lights solar!
Looks great. I know it will be a big job, but that conifer needs to go before it does anymore damage to the pillar.
Thank you
Great job. Lane to gates looks very good. However the two large trees really need to be removed. They will destroy the pillar. I would like to see you plant trees along the highway to cover the traffic noise. It would look fantastic to plant two or three rows of trees around the fields. Maybe the French Forestry Department can help with that.
Thanks for the tips!
Beautiful driveway and the gates are gorgeous! Lots of hard work. Suggestion: remove that very large tree on the right of the gates as it is causing the pillar to lean and will destroy the gates and pillar over time.
Thank you 🙏☺️
I’d be tempted to get that large tree sitting inside the gate cut at one point.
Thank you 🙏 😊
Putting Fairylights in those trees and lighting it up at night will be magical ❤🎉 Maybe sandblast the gates clean first and then spray paint them a gold and black 🖤with gravel stones on the driveway
When you are cutting large limbs it j
Helps to make a small cut underneath first so the branch doesn’t split and break like that one.
Thank you
The gates are beautiful!
Thank you 🙏☺️
Uh oh…Tracey is digging again..🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Haha. She is! 😂😂
There's no shortage of traffic and lorries on the road 😮😮😮
Thats one hell of a busy road outside the gates lol
It’s a main route to Paris 🥰🥰
Massive job accomplished. Really opened up the view to/from chateau to gates. Great find in uncovering the base stones with all stops still functional. ❤🏰
Glad you enjoyed it 🥰🥰
That tree in front of the gate needs pulled up so it won't cause anymore problems in the future with the gate post. Does the flagstone go all the way up the driveway?
No, just past the gates 🥰
I feel a visit to a brocante is required for BIG THINGS such Gatepost iron lanterns, lots of metal park fencing which would be magnificent all the way along either side of the driveway and perhaps one or two small benches strategically placed for pedestrians to take a rest. (there were 4 lovely ones shown at a Brocante in your last video with Stuart and Patrick which would be perfect). Apologies to Ash who I am sure will be rolling his eyes at the suggestion of a brocante visit.😀
Haha. Don’t encourage Terry 😂😂🥰🥰
That’s my favourite kinda gardening! 🎉❤
Same here! 🥰🥰
I find it fascinating how, with every piece of renovation, another piece of the Château's story is revealed. The gates are stunning and what a fabulous, and unusual, feature the smaller pedestrian gates are. All your hard work has really enhanced this beautiful avenue of trees. It will be even more lovely when the trees are in full leaf. Cant wait!
Beautiful Gates and driveway look even better when ýou have painted them well done 😊
Have you considered sand blasting that gate & fencing? Then spraying with rust resistant paint would be a cinch!
We will eventually 🥰
I work hard on our mountain acres, it keeps me young at 68. Tracy inspires me!
Nice work!! 80 yrs stuck in the muck! 😊-TX ❤
Thanks Denise 🥰
I dont think people realise how huge the property is and what goes to maintain it Ash 😂. Oh what fun being out in the sun.Make sure you check absolutely every tree, wouldnt want and large branches falling. Great job guys 😊
Hello Darlings
The gates are beautiful
Your mom is amazing!
We love
You all
Always 🐶❤️🙏🏻❤️
Thank you Arpi 🥰🥰
It is so great to see the weather is letting you get outside! Can't wait to see how everything is going to happen this Spring and Summer.❤ Those gates are incredible and the drive draws you in...let's go see where this leads😊
As much as it was obviously a lot of hard work, it must have been a relief of sorts to finally see the view from the drive out to the fields, etc. The landscape must have breathed a sigh of relief to finally be able to breath easily with all the clean up that you did.
Glad you had a lot of help Terry.
Thank you 🙏☺️
I wonder if you can rent out your fields to local farmers for haying or such. That way they take care of the field and you don’t have to worry about it. That’s a fantastic job you all did today. Good to see Ash in his element.
Those gates need a good sanding and painting
We will in time
Love the music!
Gosh all the beautiful chirping of the birds 😊
Like archaeology! So exciting what you found and that you are now able to use and enjoy it!
Yes! Thank you! 🥰
A lot of hard work but well worth it ❤
Yes it was! Thank you 🙏☺️
That was very satisfying to watch the foliage cut back & gate clean up. You must feel both exhausted & rewarded.
Terry, you have a wonderful smile. Thank you all for this video😊
The Dream Team has done a fantastic job (as usual!) of clearing the drive and gates. So satisfying uncovering the old gate elements and paving. Lookin’ Good!
Very nice! I love the flagstone!
Thank you! Cheers! 🥰
Ready and waiting here in Florida here, got my chores done so I can relax for a bit. I don’t know about anybody else but I’m a big believer in pillows. NOT a dozen on the bed kind but one on a chair or a couple on a settee kind of finished look. They don’t have to match the upholstery, more like compliment it. Anybody feel the same?
Thanks Alexandra 🥰🥰
Right there with you!!! Never miss an episode, this Chateau is REALLY COMING ALIVE!
Right back at ya 👏👏
A lovely day outside. The entrance way and gate are looking fantastic. 💪💪
Thanks 👍
Terry & Ash where are your Peacocks? Show them in the future. You all are so inspiring. Crack on as always. 🤗
Fantastic, looking good
Thanks 👍
Great job on this video! Looks like you’ve got your work cut out for you in the outside area, but no doubt with you and your team you’ll get it done in no time. Look forward to someday seeing those gates refinished to their original glory, WOW! Good job guys. Tracy
Thank you 🙏 😊
I wonder whether you’ll toss some shade-loving wildflower seeds along the exit at some point in the future, so guests leaving will be entranced as they go, even more eager to return. 🙂
That was an incredible day’s work!
Thanks Adeline 🥰
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing you back outside. How wonderful that you have uncovered the flagstone and gate stoppers. And the gate opens! Watching this video reminded me how big your land is. There must be so much we haven’t seen much of. I’d love another video walking around and showing us all the nooks and crannies. Thank you for sharing your amazing property with us.
Gates look fantastic!
Glad you like them! 🥰
Wow! You have a lot of land, how wonderful, just think of how beautiful you can make it with your artistic talent and willingness to do hard work! Just amazing!
That is exciting; the gates look amazing 🎉
Thanks Carol 🥰
Looking at those beautiful gates I thought what a story they would have to tell....the comings and goings of many years. How great was it that the stoppers were still there after all that time.
Wow that gate is going to look so nice when it's done! Hard work for sure! Well done!
Thanks 👍
I also think Ash was happy to be back outside driving the tractor! 🚜
Ash the gentleman farmer, haha! At least that’s what he looked like on the tractor. Cheers Kirk
Those gates are lovely!
Do you think the original cobbles are underneath the driveway?
Have you got a walled kitchen garden? An absolute essential to build if you haven't.
One of those fields I would turn into a wild flower meadow. Fab for biodiversity and in August / Sept wildflower hay would sell for a premium 😉
No cobbles :( 🥰🥰
Wow restoring those gates will be a major task
It will 🥰
As you were digging the soil by gate, I was thinking what beautiful rich soil. Years of leaves composting.
The people gate didn't even appear to even squeek when you opened it!
Have a great day!.
Your mum and aunty are tireless well done guys looks fantastic and do satisfying
Great job getting it all cleaned up! That is such a lovely tree lined driveway! Maybe more trees along the road will cut down on the noise.
I love watching your progress and I’m willing you on every step of the way.
It's such a grand feeling to find the gate stoppers and to see it open!! Congratulations 🎉🥳🎉
Wow what a find at the original gate's the drive way looks wonderful fantastic work done by you all and once the gates are painted it will be amazing take care all and see you soon 💕🌼🤗
Thank you very much!
