--UPDATE: Sadly both occupants and their dog passed away from this accident--
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - At least one person is dead after a U-Haul crashed on Interstate 40 in North Little Rock, according to officials with the Arkansas Department of Transportation.
Officials said that the U-Haul driver hit a support beam on Interstate 440. ARDOT officials said the right lane and shoulder going eastbound are blocked due to the incident.
According to officials with the Arkansas State Police, two people involved in the crash were taken out of a burning vehicle.
ASP officials said that the other person was taken to a local hospital. Authorities say the person is in serious medical condition.
To all complaining about the Fire Department being too slow. It was only 32 seconds from the time the fire truck stopped till they were spraying water, it takes time to get the truck ready to pump water, it’s not like turning on a faucet. I think that’s pretty good, when people get in a hurry mistakes are made and accidents happen.
Looks like they had a hose on the front of the fire truck, ready to go. We don't have anything like that in the UK, as far as I know.
@@michaelfrancis7072 a lot of American apparatus's have Fire Hoses Ready to go on the Front of their Rigs depending on the type and model of the chassis some even have Brush sprays as well and a Split PTO for which pump pushes the water

I was surprised to see the fire truck appear on the video shot so fast. I did not expect them so soon. Great Job First Responders!
One reason I never thought about a career in law enforcement is this kind of situation involving fatalities. You have to have a certain constitution to be able to handle this stuff and not go insane or get seriously depressed. I salute all the law enforcement officers who do this!
Well I thank you for that!
I did it for 33 years and saw my share of this type of thing and none of it ever gets any easier. Your adrenaline running at the time and you stay focused it’s after the fact when the adrenaline starts wearing out that you just want to sit down and cry and vomit.

Thank you to the first responders, officers and good samaritan(s)

Very sad. Good job giving us the details. Appreciated

Great officer! He did what he could. God bless him. Prayers out to the families.🙏🏻
There is no god.
The Uhaul's tire tracks through the grass are straight and undisturbed. With no corrective action taken by braking or steering I'd guess the driver fell asleep, veered off the highway and hit the barrier. The passenger was likely asleep as well. Very sad. Great job by all the first responders and bystanders.
@TheCousinEddie if you are correct, then at least they might not even know their last seconds on earth. I am not making fun here. If I'd die in a car-accident I'd prefer that one. In another video I saw a case of one young girl 24 years IIRC who on her or her boy-friend's birthday they went bungee-jumping, and they staff put the harness on both of them, but connected only the bungee-rope to her boyfriend. As he was told to "jump" he was secure, while she jumped too. Later the coroner found out that her death was caused by one heart-attack, if that story is to believed.
The driver was 71 so could of been medical issues
@@isallah1kafir196 The distance wasn't too far to the ground, I find it hard to believe she made it halfway to the ground then was dead when she realized her mistake. I think the heart attack happened but the ground coming up on her too fast was the primary cause of death.

@@deko2485 they likely mean the people that weren’t passing in the left lane and staying in front of the cop with his lights and sirens on.
I was thinking the same thing, sometimes the extra seconds spent waiting for someone to move out of the way could lead to an unnecessary life lost 😪
@@deko2485 You missed the point: When the officer has his lights on and sirens BLARING these idiots still casually drive in the left lane without moving over and when they do FINALLY get out of the way, it takes them forever like this J/O at 2:03. Now go back to the entrance ramp and shut the whole street down
A friend of mine that was a sheriff's deputy, got rear-ended in his in his vehicle and it exploded. It was a fatality. They shut down interstate for three exits until that was cleared out.
I’m surprised at how fast that a lot of the trucks are passing the accident with all the emergency lights flashing. It’s just dangerous to be going that fast. I drove truck for many years and you slowed right down in these cases unless Police or Fire were waving you to keep moving quickly.
No need to close the lane. Plenty of room to work on Median.
Was the trooper chasing this vehicle, or just trying to reach the scene of the accident?
trying to get there. the crash had already happened when the vid started
One U Haul contract not completed.
No sense of urgency when FD got there.
32 seconds they were spraying water from the time the fire truck stopped, could you do better? Getting in a hurry causes accidents and mistakes which in turn takes even longer to do your job.
No, they were there very fast and spraying water in under a minute. That's about as good as you are gonna get. You are the type that is destroying this country with your delusional brain. There's nothing worse than the government tyranny that thinks it's helping you because they know better than you. This is what we have in power right now and it's a disaster. Yet, you people still have an excuse of why it's not your faults.

Sad for the innocent dog as well
So sad. It happens in an instant. Be good loving humans!
I didn’t grasp that this was a squad car at first, so for the first 3 minutes I was pissed off thinking this was some asshole civilian driving 100 mph.
Shocking that an American Interstate highway in the year 2022 still does not have a guard-railing to stop and -redirect traffic from hitting a bridge abutment. In New York State most bridge abutments are protected by Jersey or Texas Constant Slope concrete barriers with crash cushions or guardrails before the abutments.
What about trees? Buildings? You can’t protect everyone from everything.
They are just east of Sherwood and there usually are barriers but this is one of the few that don’t have any
It's Arkansas.
Good point, but then again, you can’t protect people from every single hazard. I do agree that diverting structures probably should be considered standard equipment these days.
Looks like the driver fell asleep at the wheel or had a medical episode & passed out. Really need some ARMCO barriers or water drums to cushion or divert vehicle impacts into those hard objects on the side of the highway.
They just need to hurry up with the self driving trucks. That will eliminate all need
@@Qwonk That won’t happen in our lifetimes. Too many things preventing such a technology, not the least of which is monetary.

I think we use the word "hero" a little too cavalier. The person wasn't drug out of the burning uhaul, they were drug away from it. When you sign up for that job you understand what comes with it, it doesn't mean you're a hero for every little thing you do.
The people who stopped to help and removed the passenger are worthy of hero status. They would have assisted the driver but were unable too due to fire. It wasn’t their job, just good people helping others.
The heavy breathing 😂😂😂😂
If you are still able after a crash SHUT THE KEY OFF... the fuen pump is still going otherwise
Maybe, but given the severe damage to the front end of that truck, it is highly unlikely the fuel pump is getting any power.
Can't believe they don't have guardrails around those pillars. That's standard in many states.
only a civil engineer (or someone who works in a transportation planning capacity) would say this. Being in urban california, it's either concrete medians or guardrails all the way. And in this case, stupidity is what led to the fatality not the lack of guardrail.
@@HardwiredZ06 Maybe she had a heart attack or a stroke. Does stupidy cause that or does it just cause some people to make assinine comments on CZcams?
@@HardwiredZ06 completely disagree. Regardless if the cause of the crash was the driver’s stupidity, mechanical failure, sudden health issue or another driver, if the vehicle had hit a guard rail/crash barrier it would have glanced off and come to a stop over distance. The occupants of the crashed car suffered their fate because when hitting the unprotected concrete pylon they went from travelling speed to a complete stop within 1 yard.

That's fine, never drove anything but a Versa, you can rent and drive this truck.
See a U-Haul, Penske truck on the roadway, give it wide berth because this is likely who's driving it. Should be extra laws concerning the rental of trucks to anyone with a license.
What does anything you’ve just said have to do with this accident?
out of all these traffic accidents, one happens with a uhaul truck*
people: regulate the rental trucks!
no don't do it. anything that is regulated keeps being as shit as before but 10x more expensive.
Give up your freedom for a little bit of safety
Your comment, Ray 56, is filled with ignorance and lack of proof or experience. You yourself said you have never driven anything but a Versa. That, in itself, told us a lot about your ignorance of driving these trucks or anything other than a Versa. You have jumped to conclusions about the circumstances of this accident without knowing the facts. Please go out and get experience driving as many vehicles as you possibly can, in as many circumstances as you can, and get some years of experience before making such comments. May these people and their dog RIP.

“10-7” … yes, out of service indeed.
A guardrail might have come in handy.
That's crazy I wonder if they blew a tire or did it intentional
wasn't a blown tire you can tell that by the markings in the grass, it almost seemed as though the driver fell asleep (medical emergency as well). I doubt that as the passenger would have assisted with controlling the vehicle. Judging by the path I would say that the driver noticed he or she was on the wrong path and crossed the grass in an attempt to get where they needed to go, but being on grass did not have the control needed and hit that support pillar. This is what causes thousands of accidents daily is because drivers are impatient, it is possible to find a turn around point later on but people especially Americans cannot be bothered with discomfort or taking more time to be safe, you guys would rather kill yourselves and others to save 20 seconds.
@@mikemuppet3807 not me I don't care how far out of my way I have to go to turn around and yes people here suck at driving
Looks intentional to me. Look at those tracks. Right toward the colume.
Haul A## no more!
So where in the hell is the guardrail that’s suppose to prevent that from happening???
I thought that’s was a national traffic Standard. At least Ohio has all bridge piers protected by guardrail.
yeah .. and Ohio has the worst drivers in the world, that's why they're needed
If it is more than 30’ from the travelled way than it is optional.
30 feet at highway speeds is about 1 second. Pretty insufficient standards.
@@bigdaddy4429 perhaps but we are dealing with thousands of miles of roadways.
The old logic was “we built you a good road it’s your job to stay on it”. And if you depart the pavement qui sera sera. I’m not saying that it was right I am saying that it happened. As a highway engineer every time we think that we idiot proofed something we find a more complete idiot.
And I have been at crash scenes where vehicles have tripled the clear zone. The idea is that once you depart the paved surface your velocity will rapidly decrease due to the effects of the sod or spinning and tumbling probably a combination of all factors.
So if you are doing 80 in the rain or snow at night, well they say the Lord looks after drunkards and fools.
How the heck did the driver hit that concrete pillar?
The driver was 70 years old.
@Parr Snipps
Well to start the vehicle, a U-Haul in the case was driving down the highway which happened to be in Arkansas. Based on the video the driver either may have experienced a medical issue or may have fallen asleep. When that happens the vehicle is not being controlled and started to drift out of the lane of travel. Based on the tire tracks visible in the video it appears but not known for sure there was no correction attempts to gain control of the vehicle. So the vehicle drove into the pillar probably at highway speeds resulting in the driver being killed as well as the passenger and their dog. Hopefully the driver was unconscious and did not have to suffer the pain of being pinned inside a burning vehicle. Sounds like the passenger was semi conscious and in pain from the audio picked up by the officers dash cam. Hopefully he did not suffer that much. Unknown if the dog was inside the vehicle or ejected/ pulled out from the vehicle like the passenger was by good samaritans. Either way very sad all around. Rip
Probably fell asleep from the boring Arkansas scenery.
Dang didnt know James Brown served with the PD

3 lives. The Dog perished as well🥲
I’ve rented multiple uhaul trucks and trailers in the past 4 years and they all were in good working order. One dual axle trailer had a low tire that wasn’t noticed until after it was loaded, I called uhaul customer service and they had a repairman out within the hour that installed a new tire and wheel.
145 deaths out of how many rentals? Obviously you've had a bad experience with U- Haul and you want to label them as money grubbing bastards with no morals. Maybe the driver fell asleep and drifted off the road because they were driving all night. Would that be U- Haul's fault too?
