Their first two albums are melodic nu-metal classics. They had a good alternative rock direction after. Its too bad it never took off for them after The Reason.

All I hear is the crowd chanting “who’s the skank? who’s the skank?”

Man, this takes me back! I def feel like Doug's vocals were trailing off there at the end. I guess I'm just not sure if they would have made for a good touring band. The hardest pressure being on the singer.

man, i wish they stuck with this sound for subsequent albums. Could listen to every song on this without skipping one. Their new stuff is terrible though (more beautiful - barf) and sucks they went in that direction. Really too bad and wish they stuck to their roots.

I feel like they would’ve been a lot more popular/ success if they had a better band name 😭. They are so underrated

@@Popunkneo they would have been more popular if more of their songs would have been aired on the Mainstream (MTV, Radio) but unfortunately only a very few of their very old songs were ever aired on Mainstream (only 1 or 2 of their songs which is less than 1% of what they created in their history) but all their other good songs (99%) were never aired on Mainstream unfortunately (and they really had a lot of very good bangers, at least 40+ songs that could have been theoretical hits in the Mainstream, if given the chance). Most of their songs are very catchy, melodic, energetic and emotional, basically everything that Majority of people would fall in love immediately (if only more people knew about them).
Afterall Music is all about exposure. The more music gets exposed the more popular it becomes, doesn't even matter how good the quality and content is, just exposure alone makes stuff poplar, this is what all the Pop music is based on: exposure, exposure, exposure, repeat....
so it's the big Mainstream Media that have the Power to make artists famous or not, because the owners of the Media channels can decide what they air and what not, and whatever gets aired will automatically get popular, that's how it works. This has always been, and will always be that way...
But then again, Rock has never really been a big major part in modern Pop Mainstream genereally, and since Hoobastank is mainly focused on Rock Music, they would generally have it more difficult to be aired on Mainstream. Because it seems that for some reason, the big Media channels have decided (collectively) that ROock should not gain a big airing time in today's Pop Mianstream...
it seems that they (the big media channels) are trying to keep Rock down, while they are pushing the lame non-Rock based genres up, such as Hip Hop, Rap...
this could be for various reasons, could be that Rock is deemed as "too energetic" so it would distract most listeners in their daily living activities, which does have some truth to it
but on the other hand, I actually like it that way, because it feels more "special" to know a band that is not very popular, not many people know about this band, so it gives you a kinda unique feeling about it. Plus you can brag to your friends about it by showing them some good music that they never heard, but would likely get into immediately, so they think you have good taste.
and it's not just Hoobastank, there are literally so many other good underrated Rock and Metal bands that deserve more popularity, that never got the chance (privilege) to be aired on Mainstream channels.
TL;DL Rock bands have it generally much harder to be in the Mainstream than general Pop suff anyway that's just how it is nowadays...
