I also was blessed to have met and danced on stage with Donald O'Connor when I was 12. My mom took me to a fundraiser and he was there to help boost donations from that room full of women. My mom told them I could tap dance and they asked me to come up front I didn't want to at first but my mom insisted. They introduced me to him and he asked me if I could repeat a few steps and I said yes so we got to dance a short routine with him. I wish I had a video of it to share my fond memories with others and to have it for myself. I was given an autographed picture at the time I didn't think anything of it I had no clue who he was. Years later when I found out I was shocked that I got to meet and dance with such a star of great talent. Sadly I was never able to perfect my tap dancing to the ability of Donald O'Connor or any of the other tap dancers of his caliber. they were able to make it look so easy but for anybody that who's ever tap-danced realizes the difficulty of the steps he was able to perform that he was able to incorporate his acrobatic abilities and the fact that he could act and sing just made him a very talented human being.

I love how the kids attack him with hugs at the end. He's such a darling! He has amazing reflexes. How is that possible to catch those balls so fast? Then again, it is Donald, who can do basically everything, it seems. Love him! Thank you!

One of the special scenes in 1956 Paramount Pictures' Anything Goes is Donald O'Connor's enchanting, inspiring, and rollicking song-and-dance moment with a bunch of kids. His bouncing, catching, and dribbling of the balls in perfect timing with the music and his tap-dancing is simply-wonderful.His playing of the xylophone with the ball in pleasant tune is truly-beautiful.His interacting with the kids in childlike way is very-delightful.He's one of all-time most gifted and athletic entertainers.

Of the three greats of that era, Astaire, O'Connor, and Kelly, O'Connor was the best dancer and had the nicest voice. Astaire's elegance and mastery are beyond description. No one could match his partner dancing. And, he, too, had a wonderful tenor voice.
Kelly had the matinee looks, the strong physique, and a very grounded, athletic style, and certainly sang nicely.
But, O'Connor could float on air and then shift into an acrobatic/athletic choreography that looked like he was floating on air. Incredible. And all while, singing! Adding his appealing 'boy next door' looks made it all appear as if it were a jaunty stroll. ... We'll never see the likes of these three again. Phenomenal talent!!!

There were so many great tappers who could sing and act...and one of my favorites was Donald.....He always seemed like he enjoyed what he did and he made it look easy... others looked like they overpracticed . When Debbie Reynolds and Donald danced in movies like "I Love Melvin" they seems to have joy with what they did even though I know how tough it is to get lines, dances ect to come across natural.
