  • DANNY FAIRBRASS' BATTLE WITH CANCER REVEALED
In this exclusive episode of the podcast, Danny Fairbrass gave a vivid insight into his recent battle with melanoma skin cancer. He was also joined by his life coach, Rob Kelly, one of the founders of the revolutionary psychological training programme, The Thrive Programme. Danny has experienced significant positive changes since completing the programme and is a huge supporter of its benefits.
Danny arranged this impromptu podcast to raise awareness surrounding the seriousness of the sun. By revealing his current situation, he hopes to encourage people to wear appropriate clothing, regularly use factor 50 sun cream and most importantly, respect the sun.
Furthermore, considering his recent situation, he announced that 50% of all profits from the Korda Kool clothing range will be going to Cancer Research UK, and the other 50% will go to the Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund.
Lastly, for anyone who might be interested in exploring The Thrive Programme, Rob Kelly has kindly offered our audience a temporary 20% discount when you use code KORDA at checkout at www.thriveprogramme.org.

You're one of the reasons I got into carp fishing back when Korda 1st started and followed ever since. My dad is going through throat cancer and had to have his voice box removed, but the upside is you are still alive. Hope you get on the bank soon mate. Using your platform and experience to share this is amazing so that others can heed your advice and learning. Your positivity has inspired me to seek help and speak to a Thrive coach. I’ve suffered with Mental health issues all my adult life and after losing my Mum at 64, I started to watch the Korda videos and started fishing again as an escape mechanism from my struggles. I also have the perfectionist mentality and can relate to the same challenges. I want to wish you the very best of health and hope you make the very best recovery. What he's done so the the Embryo idea which helps the future of carp fishing for future generations and making no real profit was just awesome. Now hearing about this cancer he is experiencing and the way he's dealing with it is just beyond belief. What a great man who should be a real role model for future generations whether it's in business, fishing, having ideas you actually follow through and certainly the theramplafist with his charity work for cancer. These are things everyone from young kids to adults who think they know it all. This man wasn't spoon fed just an admirable fella. Good on ya Danny keep it going and tight lines.

Hi Danny, Not many gals in carp fishing but one here, although technically I don’t fish, I assist my oh but have totally embraced every other aspect of carp fishing. I came across you watching Thinking Tackle on Shed some years ago now with my oh who remembers you in your early days selling leads from a bucket. You’ve come so far with sheer grit and determination, well done to you sir.
This latest battle is just another hurdle you have to deal with and hats off to you for your positivity and attitude towards melanoma. My oh and I have just come back from a 3 day fishing session where we stupidly forgot the sunblock and are a little red from the sun so are feeling more than a little stupid as we are watching this podcast.
I’m a postie and a lot of us suffer from it due to being constantly exposed to the sun and our company do very little to help us other than pay lip service to shift liability. I’d love it for you to come and give us a talk on the effects of melanoma; a lot of posties are carp fishermen too and will know about you and Korda.
But keep your head up and keep on going, you’re doing a fine job. No sympathy here, just oodles of respect.

A perfectly timed podcast considering the weather in the UK right now. Me and my mate Gavin were lucky enough to get Danny as our tutor on the second ever Carp Society School at Horseshoe lake when we were little nippers. This was when Korda was in it's infancy, Danny had a look at the rigs we were using and showed us some simple but game changing tweaks. (Blood knot we were using on the swivel became a palomar, knotless knot now incorporating silicone tube further down the shank for better alignment.) I still tie my bottom bait rigs with these additions more than 25 years later. I played tennis with my Dad today in the baking sun, I made sure he used my bottle of factor 50 as opposed to his F30. I told him of this podcast and how we need to be avoiding the sun as much as possible. I'm going to book us on to play tennis later in the day now. I've spoken to two of my fishing buddies since this podcast was released, both times this topic has been mentioned. My brother just text me a photo of his new Korda long sleeve from the range mentioned in the video. Keeping covered seems so obvious on the face of it, we all know about the potential effects Danny is talking about. Not many of us actually follow it though. We've all been there, found a chunk on the surface on a baking hot day, mixer rod in hand, the hours slip by without a thought to sun cream/covering up etc. This podcast is bringing it right to the forefront of our minds, and even in my limited fishing/family circle, it's having a ripple effect and going beyond just the people who have viewed this video. We tip our sun hats to you Danny, wishing you all the best from David and Gavin.

I myself have just been through all of this over the last 5 months. I had melanoma in my leg, the sentinel nodes come back positive, so the rest of the nodes got removed… I had a 58 stitch slice round my calf which was the original site and another 8” slice all the way up my groin area up the top of my leg where the nodes are… I had a drain in for 3 weeks, my leg is still swollen a month later. But I’m on the up now and recovering well, I’ve been as positive as I can about this throughout everything other than a little wobble when my leg doubled in size and felt like it was on fire for a week, that was a very tough time.
I am no stranger to getting on a plane for a nice holiday and had a place in Spain for about 10 years, I think it’s safe to say that it’s cost me! So now I’ll be fishing like Danny with the right clothing and protection.

    Absolute massive respect for Dan.
I had respect for him anyway for what he has done for carp fishing over the past 20+ years but this is a whole new level of admiration.
In 2018 my best friend overcame Melanoma that was 13mm,Yes!! 13mm!The surgeon told him that he had never seen anything like it and that stage 4 Melanoma was 4mm +.
Luckily for my mate it had grown into his skin then turned and was growing back out of him.
He now has a dermatologist check him over every 3 months and he has totally changed his outlook about the sun.
When we were 17-18 years old him and our other mates loved the sunbeds.
It was the done thing back then in the late 90’s early 00’s ,looking good and chasing girls in the clubs was the norm and skin cancer was something that we thought only happened to old people or people that proper smashed the sunbeds ( although i lost my dad to lung cancer back in 1988) so i had already had a brush with a family member having cancer.
Being fair skinned myself i stayed away from any kind of sun after being burned badly when i was a kid on holiday.
From then on my mum drilled it into me to just wear factor 50 and cover up with a t shirt and cotton trousers because there was no point risking it when i just burn and don’t tan.
So for the past 30 years i have always wore PF50 and covered up with clothing whenever i could because sunburn is unpleasant, prickly heat is proper unpleasant and finally skin cancer is to be taken seriously.
Even a recent camping trip to Scotland i went on shows a picture of me and my mates sat on a rock at a waterfall.
The sun is blazing and all my mates are just in a pair of shorts and me and Ste (who had the Melanoma) are covered up with a t shirt, trousers and i even have a carp hoodie on but also both wearing factor 50.
Keep up the positive attitude Dan and let’s all enjoy life and fishing safely.

Thanks Dan, I am working through Chronic Pain podcasts, particularly " unweaving chronic pain " but I have journaled today that if and when I reach a plateau I will use Thrive to keep pushing forward. Several cases of fatal cancer within my direct family which are like a cloud over me sometimes, due to maybe thinking, thanks for info.

Honesty & openness streams through with a great message. Not just wear your suncream but a real taboo for men....mental health.
Such value and well delivered. Excellent work Danny.
I will upgrade my factor 20 to to the asbestos suit type factor 50 cream. Really don't fancy copying you on that condition or the personal glug pots...rigs? thats a different story.
Well done guys. This one is up there with the Simon Scott podcast.
