The scream on that song is one that few can reproduce. Personally I can never get enough of Maynard's voice, which is why he's in my top three favorite bands. If I were going to recommend a Tool song, it'd be the classic one, "Sober". Has more of that metal feel you're looking for.

As a musician I can tell you that Tool's music is extremely complex and advanced the time signature changes alone are head spinning, along with Polyphia, this is the music that musicians listen to. Songs: aenima, 46 and 2, schism sober, laterals, and my favorite , pneuma.

Pneuma you want to hear the studio version with lyrics first, and then watch the Vic Firth Danny Carey drum cam version of it. Finally, Pushit and Pushit (Salival.) I know people who've listened to Tool for a couple decade who wouldn't have gotten all that from a first listen, so Bravo! As far as which songs to check out? All of them. If you are looking for something hard, Ticks and Leeches is pretty driving. Pushit (in my opinion, is Adam Jones (guitarist) best work). Lateralus and Pneuma (Pneuma just beat Lateralus as my favorite song) are each impeccable musically and in message. The Grudge, you really should check out The Grudge at some point. The lyrics are always very clever and will get you thinking deeply while the insane time signatures and pure raw musical talent of these musicians will keep you on your toes, guessing at what is coming next. You really can't go wrong with any of their songs, though there are a few that are meant to be listened to together:
    - Parabol + Parabola
    - Disposition + Reflection + Triad [otherwise known as "The Holy Trinity"]
    - Wings For Marie (Pt 1) + 10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2)
    - Lost Keys (Blame Hofman) + Rosetta Stoned

Tool was actually one of the bands that got me started on progressive rock. And the thing about tool is no song of theirs sounds exactly the same, nor does it follow the same formula. which is what makes this band unique in so many different ways. And you are correct about the song being a different time signatures because it most certainly is. The song is actually in kind of a series of different time signatures, and this is only scratching the surface of what this band can do.

Can't go wrong with Tool. A couple bands I didn't see on your channel are Unleash The Archers from Canada and Alien Weaponry from New Zealand. Most first timers for UAT start with "Awakening" the full band play through video or "Tonight We Ride". The video for "Tonight We Ride" is very Mad Max. The lead vocalist Britnney Hayes, aka Britnney "Slays", is a powerhouse and the musicianship is TIGHT. If you like guitar solos start with "Awakening" and pay close attention to the bass player.
I've only recently started listening to Alien Weaponry so I can't make any educated suggestions, plus I can't pronounce most of the song titles LOL. Most of their lyrics are sung in the Maori language and the song titles are also mostly Maori. I think "Kai Tungata" is what most people start with, the video is crazy. I can detect some Tool influences here and there in some of there music but they don't sound like Tool.

Tool is a weird band and has one of the largest diehard fanbases... Their philosophy as a band is still "heard, not seen"... Their sound is groove and simplicity w/ instrumental complexity... Their catalog of music is quality over quantity - only 6 studio albums since 1992. Their concerts are an experience.
The band was formed around 1991 by Adam Jones (guitar), Danny Carey (drums), Maynard James Keenan (vocals)... Paul D'Amour (bass) did the 1st 2 records, then was replaced by Justin Chancellor (bass) in 1996... They were named after their backyard tool shed 😂 First release in 1992 was an EP 'Opiate'... followed by a full album 'Undertow' (1993) which got two 'claymation' music videos on MTV (Adam Jones is also a visual special effects wizard), and the album went gold, then platinum (1 million copies sold) by '95.
'Aenima' (1996) charted at #2 in the US and was a bigger hit w/ more special effects music videos for 'Stinkfist' (debuted on MTV as 'Track #1') and 'Aenima'... the record sold 3x platinum. However, legal troubles w/ their record label put the next album on hold...
Maynard James Keenan formed a new band A Perfect Circle and their 2000 debut album 'Mer de noms' sold platinum in the US w/ the singles 'Judith' and '3 Libras'.
Tool finally released 'Lateralus' (2001) and it charted at #1 and sold 3x platinum... the album also marked longer and more complex songs for Tool... Their concerts were a visual extravaganza. Unlike most singers, Maynard James Keenan preferred to sing from the back of the stage in the shadows... Next album '10,000 days' also debuted at #1 in 2006 and sold 2x platinum.
There would be a long wait for the next Tool album... 13 years. The band was mired in legal troubles and toured often... but new music was slow to develop. Finally, the album 'Fear inoculum' was released in 2019 and was another #1 hit.

You seem like someone who might know....The reference to 'indigo' in the song, do you know what it refers to? I have browsed some forums debating it but they all just speculate.

    • @sumonjamal1653
      @sumonjamal1653 Před rokem

@@Nicholas_Burmeister Well, lyrics are always open to interpretation... but the song lyrics referred to "cozened indigo" which refers to "fake" or "deceptive" ...
Now, Tool has a song called "Third eye"... it's represented by the color electric indigo, which is a New Age Philosophy that teaches intuition & spiritual knowledge of the 6th 'chakra' or third eye.
Perhaps, Maynard was simply calling out a phony who preaches New Age Spirituality, but is simply trying to get attention or sympathy ("lemon juice up in your eye" which indicates fake tears 😭)
It goes w/ the theme of the lyrics - calling out fake people for spouting BS...
Another way to look at this is indigo tears stains from eye makeup... When women cry, their eye makeup runs down their face and stains their faces. That's a simpler interpretation - fake tears w/ fake shade running down their face.
Again, up to the listener... but it refers to a phony.

Perfect song to showcase Maynard. The guy's got like 30 different voices and he throws a ton here. When this album came out and you played the whole thing out, The Pot and Right in two stood out immediately.

Welcome to the Spiral! Tool songs are all great, My personal favorite is 46&2 or Lateralus for instance which was written using the Fibonacci Sequence! Great reaction! You should also check out Maynard James Keenan's other bands Puscifer and A Perfect Circle! Each has their own unique sound.

Tool will give you heavy and everything else. This is a great song but it's a starter song for more radio play. Dig in and you will get hooked. The song H. hits hard and Eulogy are good ones among many others.

Tool is awesome for sure lots of great songs. My vote for a new band for you to check out is Queensryche. The song I recommend 1st is Take hold of the flame live from Tokyo 1980. Geoff Tate is probably one of the best singers ever. Keep rocking and being awesome 🤘👍😎

Tool Parabol and Parabola, Parabol is sort of an interlude to the latter so it's highly recommended to do both in one video

Vicarious and Jambi should definitely be 2 songs you want to check out off that same album, I'd also recommend Stinkfist and Aenima.

Awww, HELL yeah! Lil, you are SO gonna enjoy this rabbit hole! You are so perceptive when you disect lyrics, you're gonna love Maynard's snarky sarcasm and double entendres. The odd time signatures and multi polyrhythms Tool's known for may throw you a bit at first, but after listening to a few songs, you'll get the hang of their style. As far as suggestions go, "46 And 2", their Led Zeppelin cover "No Quarter", and "Parable/Parabola" are musts.

Yes! This album stoned off my ass as loud as possible, you’ll transcend space and time with Maynard’s voice haha….next? Mudvayne-death blooms or any slipknot off self titled Iowa fa sho! 🤘🏻

You did your homework before watching, that’s a smart move! It really helps give an informed reaction. Other songs by Tool to react to: Sober live (Pro Shot), Schism, Forty Six & 2, and the must see Danny Carey Cam of Pneuma!

Iron Maiden is my favorite by far. Absolutely legendary band on par with Metallica in terms of influence over metal in general, they're huge. Sold out shows in countries most bands would never dream of playing in. I'd love to see you react to some live performances of theirs, particularly anything off of the Flight 666 or En Vivo DVDs, they're both on CZcams
