I remember my mom was once approached by a beggar back in Edmonton asking for spare change to buy food, and when she offered to buy him an actual meal from nearby sandwich shop the beggar simply just walked away. She did this because of a previous experience where she handed a beggar money to buy food and they went straight into a liquor store instead, with no hesitation. She told my sister and I to never give money to beggars, and always to be wary of people who ask for it. It is a shame honestly because I really do want to help people but I can never tell if they really need help or if they are faking it. And with the rising costs of food, it makes this doubly more difficult.

I live an Anchorage, Alaska. I've also been homeless. They will look you in the eye while they buy alcohol or illegal drugs with your money. Giving money to beggars isn't kind. Give to charity instead.
It's people like this that make me weary to help anyone out. You just never know anymore, and it's so sad that people do this crap every day and get away with it
I kinda view it as I'd rather give money if I have it because if I give to 5 people and 1 is fake I still helped 4. And even if 4 are scams I still helped 1 who needed it.
@@lexi6916 A good way is to give food or a drink, or something else a homeless person would truly need. I had a friend who used to make up little bags of hygiene products, who would add sanitary products for any females.

several years ago i was on a city bus when i over heard 2 "homeless" people talking. One of them actually said "I make a couple thousand a week and i just have to sit there, why would i want to go get a job and get stuck doing something i hate" I is hard to give them anything after that even giving them food or other things like umbrellas or hat and coat. I seriously hate what this world has come to, you cant trust anyone because everyone has an agenda or something.
I've heard similar things, some making £250 tax free per day. Unfortunately others get caught up in drugs and thats a major downturn of course.
The saddest part is that in the US, these scammers could have their exposer arrested for assault, sexual battery, attempted abduction, holding someone against their will, and more.

also, most of these weren't in the US anyway, it's more of an issue in countries where begging can earn you more than a regular wage

Because no crime has been committed against the generous people, forcing the beggar to undress while not allowing them to leave is criminal. Assault for getting in their face + battery for pushing them around + sexual assault for forcing them to undress in public + sexual battery if you help them undress + holding someone against their will for not allowing the beggar to leave + attempted abduction if you use force to prevent them from going. As always, the laws are subjective and often subject to the officer's discretion. Finally the, the DA

Look, I dont have a prob with beggars (besides the ones everyone has)- I've been to to Las Vegas and seen countless beggars, people who can't act, people who try to sound like they're some famous rapper to sell you a CD that's complete garbage, and even people who've had their children out while holding the signs; and you can tell i'm serious because these are too oddly specific to be lies. And yeah, if you want to pretend to be disabled in some way, sure, go ahead, literally can't stop you.
But the people who specifically pretend to be ACTUAL veterans/soldiers of war and pretend to have some missing limb, body part, mentality issue, etc.? THOSE PEOPLE DESERVE A SPOT IN HELL!!! It's not just a matter of being disgraceful or disrespectful of people who've lost their lives in war, there are legitimate homeless veterans out there who've seen the cruelty of war and everything it has to offer, some of which have lost actual body parts and whatnot. So for some everyday guy with absolutely nothing wrong with him who makes his living by being a beggar, one who "lost his arm in iraq saving 6 children in a burning fire" or some BS? They seriously deserve a life sentence- and a literal one at that because it's actually illegal to pose as a vet X(!
Me and my girlfriend who is disabled spent several years homeless seeing and dealing with the worst of humanity. The scammers just piss me off. They all need to get exposed.

@@BeAmazed Thank you and right now we live in a apartment in the middle of the ghetto. It might not be much but we are super thankful for what we have. We used to run into a lot more crazy situations like once someone refused to leave the inside of our car til she called the cops when I was getting space from my girlfriend. We feel a lot safer having a home.

This video would be even more interesting if it included an instance in which the scam was subverted and the beggar is genuine.
We see these scam money collectors at long red lights while coming off the highway. Most of them have more money than I have. Do not fall for this, they only want your money. Many of them own luxury cars, live in beautiful homes.
Oh man that's so disgusting to think that people like that actually exist out there and that some of them even get away with it for so long. Such leeches upon society should honestly just get caught more often before they can live out an undeserved life of luxury

I have them in my city too. I’ve seen them smoking cigarettes and once one even pulled out his smart phone. Even just today a lady had her husband and son (I assume) sitting on the side of the street while she brazenly walked between the cars stopped at red lights and held her sign up at driver side windows.
I know there are people that genuinely need help, but people like this make it hard to tell.

I usually offer people food and I have seen people who own a business offer jobs to people who are panhandling and they can normally tell those who are really in need to those people who don’t because a person who is in true need will normally take whatever job offer they get while people who are lazy will actually refuse the offer of a possible job offer because they’re not in need!! I have seen it several times on my local news!
And that's the problem, because thanks to these assholes I no longer believe in anything.

I just want to pipe in and say that not all disabilities are visible. I have been accused of faking my disability multiple times on public transport just because you can't see it on the outside. That said, it is usually pretty easy to tell if someone is genuinely faking.

I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and have faced many accusations of faking it because I look "too healthy" to be disabled. The one that truly sticks with me though is being told "you look too young to need a wheelchair", all these years later I still shake my head at that one.

You're right, being a scammer is a disability.
Those guy binding their legs like that are in danger of blood clots forming. Also, after a day begging, it must hurt to stand up, and take awhile to get circulation back into their limbs.
Watching this while my sister eating ice cream reminds me of when around 2 years ago me and my family had brought some ice cream and encountered this beggar outside a Target store. He was begging for money for "food", so my mother told my sister to offer him some ice cream. He refused, saying it would "melt before he could eat it" and would therefore only accept cash. And man was I annoyed at that. Gladly I haven't seen him in quite a while. I really feel bad for those who are actually disabled and need help, it's irritating how people can easily fool others like this.
Ice cream isn't actually nutritious food, though. You can't judge based on him not wanting ice cream.

You know what? This Pisses me off. I AM disabled. I suffer from a rare neuromuscular degenerative disorder CMT and I am only 52 and in the last 10 years have gone from walking to in a wheelchair. THIS IS NOT THE AVERAGE CASE, but people only will see a faker. People like This in this video make me sick and hard to know who is truly disabled or not.
I also have a neurological disorder and have flare-ups that require either a walker or wheelchair depending on the severity. That alone confuses people who don't know me very well so I usually try to give a quick, brief explanation. But tbh it almost feels like I'm defending my right to use the mobility aid based on the look they're giving me at the time. It's no wonder I stay home as much as possible.
I feel you... I went from walking 8 miles with no issues to using a rollator for short distances in 3 years, I'm 21. My disability is genetic and the symptoms are progressive, although the "cause" isn't.
Whats worse is someone like me who has all 3 types of adhd and people like to assume oh that just makes you hyper it doesnt cause anything else it does it can cause depression and a whole list of other things

Most of these young children beggars are sent out to do so by their families, getting caught probably means a beating.. or they are 'street children' trying to survive, you rarely see them in the western developed world. Your disability sucks and it's a real sh!t blow for you🤗 , don't take it so personally regarding the beggars, they are few and far between and we have far more sneaky sophisticated scammers in our countries, the ones that can take all your money from your bank etc. I also have a major disability but it's not obvious, so even here, I am not considered. and thats by my fellow countrymen... the ones that park in disabled spots etc, they are the ones I have issues with, not starving people in India

@@beebromley Because everyone assumes that you're faking it, because they've seen other "disabled people" being called out. I've been hit, punched, sworn at, pushed to the ground, had my walker and sticks stolen by people that believe ALL disabled people are faking it just because a few on the internet are. That's why.

I fell for one of these scammers. I donated $30 to someone who said they had kids and they were about to lose their apartment. The very next day I saw a similar person in a different location in a different town. The language they used was almost verbatim to the first person I saw. At that point I knew I had been scammed, and I decided never to do that again.
At least my heart was in the right place. 😒

It's happened to me, too. Your heart was in the right place. Now, I MIGHT only buy food or bus fare for them but not money.
Even the food I'm weary about after seeing a guy online running a scam for money and leaving the food someone bought him as trash. Also, last time I bought food for someone was during the height of the pandemic when my finances were funny and instead of the man saying thank you he says "what...no drink?" like he was expecting a four-course meal that I couldn't even afford for myself. I told him to drink water like I do, which was free and available to him at that moment.

Once I gave a homeless guy part of my meal I just bought minutes before. He asked for money to buy food, instead I gave him the food directly. He took it but wasn't happy and didn't even say "thanks" or something like that. He just took it and I went away. 5 seconds after I left, I looked back, to see what he's doing and saw, he threw it into the bin. I was very angry, because I could have taken it with me and eat it later. Since than I never ever gave someone anything again. Not even a Cent. My trust and hope in humanity for such people is lost.
In my home city, which is placed by the sea, there is a gypsy-lookin' woman who tends to sit with a tiny baby in her arms near streets and walkways near more tourist used places in the city.
Not much at the first glance, but I live there since birth and I tend to go through those places from time to time, especially during summer. I'm 25 now, but I remember seeing that lady with the baby since I was 10 and I have never seen her pregnant so there's no way that she had a new baby every 2-3 years.
In my country they hire children. Yes, you read that right. These people go to the poorest neighbourhoods and "rent" toddlers for the day for as little as five dollars each. One was caught when she was seen by a passerby who happened to return to the area where she begged later that day. She was getting into a high end SUV with the kids. An angry crowd formed and she confessed.
In medieval England anyone found to be a ‘sturdy beggar’ by faking a disability had half their ear cut off so that everyone knew.
Seen a fraud about 20 years ago, when I was working for a security company. It was an elderly man, with poor but clean suit, soft-spoken, begging around the local restaurants. When night came, he hopped into a Mercedes SUV and drove off.
I once saw a woman with a sign that said "deaf please help" asking a bus driver to tell her when the bus reached her stop. If she's deaf, how could she hear the announcement?
I once lived in skid row in Los Angeles, and seen food placed next to people asleep on the sidewalk. Hours later, I saw that same food thrown in the gutter. The conclusion I made was that if they can't drink, smoke, shoot or snort it (or provide means to get such things) they don't want it.
I agree with you but just one thing I want to mention. If a person truly is hungry but you place food next to them while they're sleeping, they probably still wouldn't eat it because 1) they don't know the source (ppl target the homeless too) or 2) pests probably got into the food. I've heard of and witnessed situations where ppl and companies will try to donate spoiled food to get tax breaks or somehow feel good about themselves not wasting it (very illegal and akin to giving out poison to unknowing recipients), and many homeless ppl are not that trusting, even when you're trying to help.

Lol I've never given change to disabled people. I have given it to homeless people with no disabilities. In my mind I've always thought they are greedy and play on my emotions coz they get disability grant. Good to see I was not wrong 🙈😂😂

As someone who actually is disabled, I can't stand people like this. I was once at a fast food place near a major intersection, and a nice new Mazda pulled up a few spots away from us. We watched as this guy got out in disheveled cothes, went to the trunk, and pulled out a sign and a pair of crutches. He walked, with no issues at all, carrying the crutches, toward the intersection. As he got near, he then started hobbling along on the crutches, standing on the side and begging for money. Was so sickening to see.
I've learned for a long time that most people that need the help DON'T expect anything, and as shown here greedy self righteous ones don't need anything
My favorite was this guy who just got out of jail and needed money for diapers. I gave him 5$ and said not to come to my work again.
He got out of jail “again” less than a week later, forgetting who I even was.

This was excellently presented. As someone who is disabled myself this really annoys me. The best way to help is to ask about, see if the person is known as genuine. Alert a local charity who might be able to help them, and the authorities if they can help guide, help and advise those in genuine need. Police if you suspect they're fraudulent, trying to expose someone and you're wrong could be catastrophic for the disabled person. Each country, each area will have different support systems. But children begging can be genuine, they can be forced into it, that's an Horrendous heartbreaking situation. Good subject, expertly and kindly handled, well done Be Amazed ❤
There is an older man who sits at my local gas station, I always give him my leftover change and buy him coffees if it's cold. I used to give him cigarettes, and after quitting last October, I went to find him to give him my last pack. I look forward to running into him every now and then. I'll be sad the day he is no longer there. He is honestly a very sweet man down on his luck. We sat in my car and drank our coffees together a while ago when he told me his story and I couldn't hold back my tears. I wish I was rich so I could do more for him. He is always in my prayers. 🙏☮️❤️
These guys are usually called jokers.
There's a subtle difference between a joker and a thief, a thief steals money, but a joker scams people out of money by pretending to be something they aren't.
A lot of organizations make 'blessing bags' with snacks, basic toiletries, socks, etc. to hand out. More than once I've heard of those bags being refused or even thrown back at the givers. The fakers (of all 'abilities') make it difficult for those who actually need help.
I've also heard stories of people begging outside, like, WalMart, been invited to come in to apply for a job, and they've refused because they literally say they can make more money begging than they can at a more traditional job. As they then drive off to their 4 bedroom house in a new car. With their sign saying "homeless, need gas money" etc.
So very true and disturbing, they want to make tax free money.
Churches give out that stuff All the time...
The fact that these frauds exist tells me there are many good but gullible people that they take advantage of. It's sad that the people who really do need help are losing out because of these frauds.

People should be allowed to inflict the same disabilities that these scammers pretend to have, when the punishment fits the crime they would think twice about it.. these scammers make life even harder for those who genuinely need help and they should suffer severely for it
What makes me so upset is that some thought it was humorous to pretend they were actually disabled!
Even when some injuries are real.. parents sometimes hurt their kids purposely so they can go beg and get some money for the family. never support beggars with money, instead give them a bottle of water or something to eat.
What country do u live in where parents are injuring their kids so they can beg for money? Seems to me if these parents are doing this type of shit in the US they would do it for a disability claim although depending on where u live in the US, like NYC for instance u would most likely make more money panhandling then u would from disability.

I have a whole different view of beggers now after I got scammed three times. This one time it was a known "disbaled guy" that walked with a hunch where I work. Seemed genuine, helped him out a few times. Then I was walking home from work and happen to glance in an alley with other "disabled bums" and they was ALL standing and talking normal, joking around. Next day I see him and told him, your not disabled your a fraud. He said "So What?" straightened up and walked off. Pissed me off.

I been homeless before. It is not fun. I also never begged for money. One time I was holding a door for some people and I was handed a $5 bill. That was it.

There are beggars that are addicted to drugs and the like sitting in parking lot, shopping centers, intersections and more! One time I gave someone that was begging in a local shopping center and gave him $1 and then he went walking away after I gave him the money, come to find out that he is a drug addict. I have not seen him in a while.
It goes to show that beggars get money to satisfy their addictions.

We had the Shaky Lady in Toronto during 80s and 90s. She parked herself at Yonge and Bloor. Turned out she lived in a nice apartment in an expensive part of town.

The thing about McDonald's is they don't make as much money in the same amount of time. I never give them money, I offer a bottle of water and a sandwich. Or coffee. If they don't want it, they get nothing.

As a Pakistani, I'll let you know that the beggars here are more than just lazy. They're also disrespectful. They demand that you give them cash and not any coins. If you do so, they'll just throw them back at you. Also, some beggars here usually carry some sort of flyer which states that they are homeless, they're family is in trouble etc. But they'll always hold that same flyer for years and get away with scamming people for money.

Had a family of " refugees " playing violin in front of my local Walmart with a shopping cart where they were begging for food, clothes and money.
They had a full cart early in the morning when I passed by and when I came back at the red light I heard the violin still. Went to check out of curiosity and it was different items in the ( once again ) full cart and violin case full of 20's and 10's.
Decided to come back a bit later and wait for the closing. They walked with the cart for almost a mile before stopping at a house. Kids went in and the " parents " kept walking with the cart and at the corner was a van waiting for them. The doors opened and the van was reveleaded to be absolutely full of merchandise.
Called the cops on em for literally scamming people and it turned out that they were selling the goods on Facebook blackmarket below market value and had been doing so for weeks at different Walmart across the province. Police estimated that they received in cash donations alone, nearly 30K and that's not including all the food, clothes and toys that they sold.

@@bullymaguire5838 problem is that they had a big sign reading " refugees, any donation helps ". Wether or not they actually played doesn't make a difference. Had they had no sign and just played for goods it would've been a different story.

This reminds me of something I once heard about. Basically this family would drive up to a Walmart in a car too expensive more your average family, wearing clothes that were the same, they would then walk into the bathrooms and change into clothing you'd expect to see on a beggar and beg for money outside the doors.

I really am a double amputee, and i have to say im impressed by their creativity, sadly we live in a cold world, and im not going to be mad at someone trying to make ends meet, i just wished they didnt have to go to these extremes to make ends meet. But honestly this is nowhere near as bad as the scams of wall street.

Yup. Most ppl have pride and don't want to have to resort to begging on the street for money, even if it is under the guise of a scam. Scammers are bad, but like you alluded to, some are worse than others. Wall Street scammers aren't impoverished and will still take ppl's life and retirement savings without thinking twice
In Cambodia there is a woman who walks around begging for money for formula. She doesn't need the money she scams you to buy it then she sells back to store and they get a cut to. Our tour guide warned us and my wife and I actually ran into her. She tried following me but she failed harder then my math exams from school.
That's a common scam in India as well. Beggar with a baby asks tourists to buy milk powder for the 'hungry' child (who more likely as not may not even be theirs) then lead the tourist into a nearby store and select a premium brand and the tourist , unfamiliar with the prices of local goods, is charged twice as much as the shelf price by the cashier who is in cahoots with the scammer and after giving the item to the beggar, the moment he leaves, the beggar goes back to the same store to refund the item and gets their share of the money.

I once tried to help a teenage girl who claimed to be homeless, however, when I called a local shelter to find her somewhere to live, they told me she was faking it and had a perfectly good home to go to. I was absolutely livid!
I was actually homeless as a teenager but I never resorted to scamming people.
Had the same thing many times offered a room .Al of a sudden they had somewhere else to live including a 12 yrld .This is in Australia so not a third world country..These people are criminals & should be treated as such. I believe the real homeless don't go begging.
It happens a lot in London, I saw one chap recently on the north circular at some traffic lights. He was barely walking on crutches going car to car but got his timing wrong and had to sprint to the side of the road with no problem at all.
In my city there's a whole bunch of guys who try pulling the "I just got out of jail/the hospital and need some money to get the bus home." They approach you giving all kinds of compliments but the moment you say you don't have any cash they get mean real quick. Though one time a random dude asked me if I had 75 cents because he wanted to get drunk and was short that amount to buy a forty ounce. I laughed, gave him a dollar, and told him to have a fun night. He was honest so I was like sure why not.

There are places in the world where a gut feeling alone is justification to forcefully pull another person’s pants off. Careful not to do that to a person who is genuinely disabled. Glad they got caught though.
I was surprised about that, too. People pulling strangers' pants off or accosting ppl that way, the occurrence of these scams must be high but there has to be times when the accusations are wrong

There used to be this beggar by the 7-11 on use 41 right before you get on 275 to go over the Skyway bridge. I saw this man for months begging there, one day I watched him walk behind the 7-11 put his sign in the trunk of a Porsche, change his clothes then get in and drive away. It was not a 300k porch but it was a 100k Porsche for sure. Then I saw the man at a different location and ask him how his Porsche was running and he acted dumb. My painting crew called the man out every time we saw him from that day on.
I feel bad that they have to resort to lying like this in order to get any kind of money. A lot of these are in poor areas and sympathize with the desperation 😢

There is no sympathy from me to these scammers. Using a fake disability and or your children to rake in a sizable income is not sad. It's sick. You can catch me on a day I give AF about their life story, there is no excuse. I'd rather give money to people that genuinely need help and aren't scamming 24/7.
Me too, particularly the kids. I doubt many kids would rather do that than be playing or even be in school with other kids, and I was hoping they would be sent off with some food or something when they were caught.
It actually also bothers me that some ppl who do this make more than some ppl doing legit work; when begging can make you more than what someone going to work makes (i.e., companies are paying less for labor than what one can make begging), something's very wrong with wage policies.

I was once driving through Albany, Georgia and there was this couple on the side of the road claiming to be homeless. And the man was wearing under armor shirt and pants and he had on a pair of Jordans while the woman was wearing a bright blue sundress. And they both were relatively clean looking
I was pleasantly surprised to see this was a sensible, fact-based presentation. I particularly appreciated the final caveat that there are many people who really have no source of income and no means of finding or creating one, so have to rely on "personal initiative" to get by. I would like to add a caveat about child beggars, nearly all of whom are sent out, or even taken to "their spot" every day by adults who punish them if the day's income is not enough. If such children happen to live in a country where police corruption is frequent and child protection extremely rare they have no hope of enjoying childhood.

I still remember one time seeing him sleeping outside of a bank so i gave him a few notes. He woke up and ran after me throwing the money and scraps from the street at me. Would never even let me buy him food. I literally had to go to shops and buy snacks or restaurants to get take out and then pass him and place the items in a street bin so that he would take the goods

Take into consideration that if someone needs to fake disabilities and ask fore any spare change, they probably need it more than you think, for most of these people its their last resort.

True. However, in some areas, people can get more money begging compared to working a full time job. Many probably started off as poor and continued to beg because it was easier.

If you're truly down and out, don't scam people. As you can see from the woman in Manhattan, she clearly had no need for help. It certainly isn't the case for everybody, but I have no sympathy for people who cheat and scam, no matter what their life story is.
I see the same people begging day in, day out; standing up in the islands between cars for hours on end.
They can do something if they are able to withstand the harsh elements, holding a sign up while staring down the drivers for that extra sympathy gain.
Working a typical shitty job for little pay may not be feasible for some, but at least learn a talent to earn money instead of scamming or standing with a sign, looking pathetic.

I must say that i feel so disgusted after seeing all these scams. As a human being, if these people are completely fit on their two hands, two feet, two eyes, two ears and mouth, then its better to look for a work instead of begging. Atleast, from work, they can get day's meal earnings.

As i don't have a job, i might soon end up on the street. I currently live on what little the government can provide. Because i have autism and ADHD, i literally do have disabilities. It's mental disabilities, but still. I never asked to get any of it, but what can i do about it? Autism and ADHD doesn't have a cure, so i can't do much, and we live in a society who doesn't care much for actual disabled people.
It was preventable, so sorry that your parents didn't get an early diagnosis for you kiddo.

Some disabilities are not visible I know but this is what keeps the people with real health problems from getting help . Some people can't even sit for an hour without pain
