      Twitter- 8$/Month blue checkmarks, putting basic security features behind a paywall, changes the algorithm to where people who only pay for the checkmark gets noticed
      Instagram- sees Twitter’s homework and basically says “I like your cut, G” and copies Twitter
      DeviantART- *This video*
      CZcams - puts better video quality behind premium and makes ads more unskipable
      Yeah Social Media is basically on the dystopian BlackMirror arc at this point…

      The sad state of DeviantART, Instagram, and Twitter really bums me out and is bitter sweet imho. Twitter despite being a toxic cesspool full of people who won’t shut up and scream the loudest online was once a great place to promote artwork, small businesses, and journalism. But, now thanks to Elon, it’s become this toxic hell gate full of people buying validation for 8$/month (Despite Elon making claims he’s a free speech absolutist only to try as hard as he can to censor people) and where people go back and fourth arguing about politics and getting involved in culture wars. Instagram is a hollow husk of itself due to Mark Zuckerberg and Adam Messori’s thick skull. He doubled down on Reels and the horrible changes to the platform despite a ton of back lash from Kylie Jenner’s fanbase and the community. And not the platform is even worse than before because Facebook decided to copy Elon’s homework and started putting basic features behind a paywall. The sad state of Social Media is really concerning. It’s almost Dystopian.

    This is all so disappointing to hear. I created a new DA account a couple weeks ago and I was honestly having a more positive opinion about the site than I did when Eclipse came out. With Twitter now asking artists to purchase the blue checkmark to even have A CHANCE to be seen by others, DA was looking like a better place for artists to get noticed, and my art was in fact getting more attention there. But the Wix team just HAVE to keep making these absolutely stupid decisions that make people avoid and leave their platform. I swear we desperately need a brand new website that works just like the good old Deviantart, because every popular website now looks like it's conspiring against artists.

I'm sure there are many other sites for other artist's niches and I'm sure there will be more that pop up after DA and other sites lose there relevancy.
      There is also Twitter and Pixiv which allow AI art, but my feed isn't completely full of it, and I can more easily ignore accounts that post AI art. With DA the main page when entering the site is almost always 90% AI art for me. I'm lucky to actually see art from people I follow on the front page these days.
      I already had issues with their site redesign a couple years back making it harder to find art from people I follow, and the AI art boom just made things worse.
      If anything I'd just tell any artist to post to as many sites as they can, even DA, because you never know where you might find your fanbase and the more you expose you art the better off you'll be as an artist.

Also it's really incredible that a platform filled with artists ignores the artists' needs and preferences so blatantly. And it's "funny" how the adoptables market overflowed with AI is the perfect representation of what can happen and is happening for many art jobs and activities, and yet some people say that artists should not worry about AI.

      @GhostKibble Před rokem +3

      From someone who has accidentally bought an AI adopt I might be able to answer some of those, it seems like to some extent, if you pay some AI companies enough through like a subscription, you can "copyright" images and they cannot be duplicated and are forever unique, but I'm unsure how much of that is true, how much is allowed to be exclusive to a single piece, and what "AI Artists" aka Quick Money Grabbers want the person using their program to think. So, many AI 'artists' are probably not even educated enough to understand how scummy the entire thing is.
      (To put it simply, I was not aware what an AI adopt was until they told me after buying to credit the ToyHouse account to MidJourney and then I saw all the small details that just weren't... right. So then did some research to learn about WTF AI adoptables even are because I thought MidJourney was just some whatever new art program before buying. Im totally out of the DA / Art loop.)
      It would certainly be questionable at best though, because seeing so many of them posting identical prompts and selling almost the same things, it makes me wonder about their fit in any market as well.
      In my opinion after living and learning and most importantly researching, you CAN own the characters, because they themselves are unique and are bits and pieces and code made into a visual photo that hasn't been made before, less or more depending on the AI program you use, but you indeed cannot claim that initial 'art piece' as your own by any means. And because of that.. well, what's the point?
      I would say less to the people who knowingly buy it, "can you?'' and more "why would you?"

    • @iamaylacat3935
      @iamaylacat3935 Před rokem +4

      @@GhostKibble As far as copyright law is concerned, the image is not protected and anyone can take a copy of it if they have access to it to use for whatever purpose they please. However, as for the AI side of ensuring it stays 'unique' they can only really garuntee that in terms of the AI not generating a perfect match to it. A precedent for this has already been set in many countries around the world.
      When it applies to characters, its a little more of a grey area. You own all copyright to the images you make, but to my knowledge unless you make a substantial edit to the character as an actual person, the character itself has no protection. This is because in order for something to be copyrightable, there needs to be substantial human input (prompts don't count!) in the process. A rough concept generated by an AI and then iterated upon a few times before being finalised would be copyrightable, a full character design straight out of the machine would not.
      Regardless of where you stand on the morality of AI generated images, I need to make one thing clear. What happened to you is against the ToS of EVERY Ai image generator out there. As per the ToS, every repost of AI generated images is required to include a statement that the image was generated using AI. Because of this, if you do upload the character to Toyhouse, you will have to credit MidJourney for the image, however to my knowledge if you were to redraw the character manually and upload it this requirement does not apply.

      @@JMulvy Yeah, the biggest issue by far with AI image generators is the amount of work that they have that has a special license on it that dictates that credit is required in any and all usage of the work, and yet they don't give credit for it in their systems. Does make it funny when people don't credit the AI images. Still think it should be enforced though, at least in regards to the copyright rulings regarding AI art and selling/buying images/characters.

That one infuriate me the most, even more than AI art, that's just blatant murdering everyone who isn't good enough or spammy enough! I am surprised there are even people here, this is why I like newgrounds more, though they do need some modifications because they're severely lacking some features despite being so old, I rather have the rating system, although harsh I much rather having that and also having a platform that actually supports artists than not.
