  • @v.v365
    @v.v365 Před rokem +2680

    The only reasons I got into the ship were because Elsa and Jack were kind of iconic for being isolated and lonely, despite showing sides of themselves that love connecting with people. Elsa has learned to be stoic and controlled, and Jack being all “snowballs and fun times” could really help her get back in touch with her fun loving side again. Then Frozen 2 came around and elevated Elsa’s status in the realm of the magical, and when I analyzed where the film left her off I realized that she could either still have a human life span and grow old with her sister, or she’d fully embody an elemental spirit and become immortal, eventually outliving her sister and her kingdom and everything she ever knew. She’d become jaded, isolate herself again, and Jack could come along in modern times to bring joy back into her life. Plus, Atohollan seemed to work in a way similar enough to the way Jack became a guardian that you could connect those worlds with a fanfiction. A frozen River of memories gives a girl ice magic, and you’re telling me a boy drowning in a frozen lake and being revived without his memories but with ice and wind magic aren’t connected? He even talks to the wind like Elsa does with Gale, he says “Wind, take me home!” I’m sure Jack would appreciate an elemental goddess like Elsa telling him the wind has had a name this whole time. They just fit together like two peas in a pod, and I’m unapologetic in how much I love them together.

      OH MY GOD I LOVED RISE OF THE BRAVE TANGLED DRAGONS! Such an intriguing challenge fitting those stories together, then fitting other stories into it like Frozen and Moana. This ship used to be one of my favs. It works so well just like you said, but also because other characters' dialogues fit so well. The boogey-man obviously feeds on fear which is explained in the movie, while Grand Pabbie told Elsa when she was younger that fear would be her enemy. This can cause the boogey-man to go after someone like Elsa who feels alone to which Jack can then come in and help her. They balance each other out.

      Yes! There was jelsa fic I used to read called Ice Alliance that incorporated that idea and it worked really well. Like it’s kind of crazy how well the lore of both movies can fit together. It just makes the ship even better cause they have so many canon reasons to be brought together.

  • @urmom6701
    @urmom6701 Před rokem +3932

    Well I mean it does kinda make sense for them to be together, not just them having ice powers, both were literally willing to die for their sisters, both were/felt isolated at one point (Elsa locked herself in her room because she thought it would keep Anna safe from her out of control ice powers, Jack was banished by the other Guardians for being a screwup essentially and went into solitude because of it), and both were chastised by the public (Elsa was chastised by the Duke and everyone was afraid of her once her ice powers were revealed, Jack wasn't taken seriously by the other guardians because they thought he was a screwup which is also why none of the kids could see him because no one believed in him since the other guardians kept him hush hush)
    Even though I know a lot of people say Elsa would give Jack the cold shoulder, I do think they have a lot in common and at the very least would be friends.

    I was a part of this fandom back in the day, and yes, I was also part of the group that shipped Rapunzel and Jack more. I was subscribed to the accounts that went to have millions in views and it was honestly so much fun back then. The editors basically had started out with other crack pairings of the 2D movies, like Sinbad and Jasmine, Jim and Ariel, those kinds of pairings. So it was a day in the park for them to make edits of non-canon pairings. When Jack and Elsa rolled around, they did more of what they started with. Being a part of that Non/Disney edits time was so great.

  • @nolifeconsolegamer
    @nolifeconsolegamer Před rokem +127

    The reason I vibe with the cracked ship is
    1: aesthetic
    But 2: Jack and else could learn from each other (like in an actual relationship)
    - Jack doesn't care about anything and takes everything as fun and games because he has no purpose or goal.
    -Elsa takes everything seriously because she has to as a social recluse having the title of queen thrust upon her.
    > Jack would interact with Elsa and teach her that relaxing and not letting your burdens weigh you down is healthy
    > and Elsa could teach Jack that he needs to have more responsibility and take his (life?) into his own hands instead of waiting for his purpose to be dropped in his lap.
    The thing that makes this ship what it is, is the duality of character development that each character got and the MANY ways that can be imagined for them meeting.
    1_Perhaps Elsa was born and had an experience with Jack Frost that GAVE her powers like his and now he has to guide the girl whose life he ruined.
    2_ perhaps Jack was visiting the mountains where he could play with the snow and ice without the reminder he can't be seen and finds a runaway Elsa.
    3_ Maybe Jack is the source of all ice magic and gave Elsa the gift as a kid so her and her sister could have fun and he saw how it made things worse and he disappeared in regret and shame then comes back in the third movie to explain who he is and why he exists and what he did and how he's sorry (turning him from a romantic interest into a plot development cause we still have no idea how Elsa got her powers... 🙄)
    Point being. I understand the ship and support it even though I realize it probably won't happen. It's not too far a stretch though, plot-wise.

    I´ve been in this fandom since it started. Jelsa is not just about the aesthetic or just giving Elsa a boyfriend because she is a woman and she has to be in a relationship with a man (sarcasm), NOP. Jelsa is more than just that, we don't ship them because they are woman-men or just for the ice powers, it's for WHAT they are. Two spirits with a hard and lonely existence. They would understand each other because they had been through the same things (isolation, not being understood, being different from everyone, etc.)
    shiping doesn't need to have sense, it's for fun. But it would be great if Jelsa happens. I would love to see a heartwarming movie with these two developing their relationship (platonic or romantic), learning for each other, and above that, finding someone that is just a little bit like them (Into the Unknow reference).

I do believe the ROTBTD fandom started to die out mainly when people start to add Frozen and other movies into the mix, which made it a lot more cluttered but. Bonus: It's the fact that they are from different studios, so many Jelsa shippers are intrigued by it! Especially since they are from RIVAL studios. Minor nitpick: that's not what a crackship is, not exactly. Crackship is a ship that people ship ironically, or because it would be funny. Elsa x Olaf is in most cases a crackship - it's not that they look good together, or have great chemistry, or exploring their dynamic would be interesting. More likely, it's just that "lol, Disney princess kisses the funny snowman (who is also kinda her son, depending on how you look at it) isn't that craaazy?!". Just because everyone knows Jelsa is never going to be canon doesn't mean it's a crackship; as long as it has significant unironic appeal, it's not a crackship. In fact, I find it hillarious that someone can at this point be so shocked that crossover ships (that is, shipping characters from two different mediums, universes, what have you) are a thing.

    • @contactfront5212
      @contactfront5212 Před rokem +8

      No, that’s a subset of crackshipping. Crackshipping in general is used to refer to any ship deemed unconventional. It can mean shipping a pairing ironically/for the lolz/weird reasons, but overall it just means that there’s little to no canon foundation for the ship. It can be used to refer to a ship between characters from the same franchise/story who never spoke to each other, or who exist in different timelines, or a multitude of other reasons. Jelsa most definitely can be considered a crackship based on the fact they come from completely different franchises and timelines

    Rise of the Guardians was a weird film in the way it caught on with the more creative types online. I remember I was into Avatar: The Last Airbender at the time and a bunch of the better fan artists in that fandom I was following were now posting a ton of Guardians stuff. Wasn't just Jack Frost either, bunch of the villain guy and the ozzy easter bunny too with them as a blue lantern, in jail with Carmen Sandiego, or whatever.

      this is so true, rise of the guardians and especially jack frost were so omnipresent in fandom culture in the early 2010s. miss that era

    I loved this video, but i was left a little confuse by how much Sarcastic Chorus seems to equal shipping with wanting it to be canon. I mean, i know some shippers would go that extra mile, but since when it was a requirement?

      Yeah, some people really don't get what's shipping about and it'd be fine if they weren't dudes with a platform spreading misinformation. It's so annoying when people act like liking harmless ships is a disrespect to the writers, the characters, the plot and their grandma, and I'm not even a big shipper

    • @obitosenju3768

      As a shipper I get this so much. When I ship I don't say this would be actualy good for the story or that I expect it to happen. Shipping is just more tools for fanfiction. If I shipped Elsa with Jack( I don't but for an example) I do not think it would be good for Elsa to be in any kind of a relationship.
      Not only because I respect the story but that Elsa is such a plank of wood of terms of personality her sister had to be the main protagonist for most of the movie

    I ship practically every cambination of "Rise of the brave, tangled frozen dragons" or ROTBTFD, as is often called, with Hijack/Frostcup being my favourite.
    Man, those sure were the days for fandoms

    • @despinasgarden.4100

      @@DarkZ19 basically, is a crossover alternative universe between the movies: Frozen, Tangled, Brave, How to train your dragon and Rise of the guardians. Where Rapunzel, Elsa, Merida, Jack and Hiccup are friends.

    1. I was familiar with "Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons"; I even independently toyed with the idea. Henceforth, I was familiar with Anna and Elsa being added, but the Hamada brothers from Big Hero 6 is a choice; I would have done Moana.
    2. The shipping of Jack and Elsa can make one forget that there is potential for Elsa to be non-heterosexual, including fan wishing.
    3. "Curiosity killed the cat, you know...." - Dr. Finkelstein, The Nightmare Before Christmas.

      Oh gods, you're giving me flashbacks to that guy with the insanely deep pockets who would not stop funding Peter Parker x Twilight Sparkle (humanized) art.... He must have spent at least tens of thousands the sheer amount that he was making happen.
