It’s a bit sad that the Merc guy said four stroke have less moving parts. But let’s add eight valves, eight valve springs a camshaft two cogs and a timing chain to on top of the two-stroke. I like the new four strokes but my OptiMaxx 90 completely annihilates my mates four stroke 115 (and his boat is 1 foot smaller than mine) but I would take a four stroke 115 pro xs if someone gave me one.
Moved from an Opti 135 to Merc 150 4s. Amazed at how well the 4s performs. Certainly quicker than my Opti and more mid range grunt. Surprised by this video as I would expect the Opti 125 to still be quicker than the 115
Don`t think about buying one , just buy one. These are amazing motors, strong, light and build to last. I liked your head to head great to see the comparison. Lee
You cannot measure the correct dB with a smartphone. There is too much deviation due to poor hardware (microphone and preamp) and wind noise that affects the microphone.
Steve,Would you list the gear ratios and what props (model and pitch) that were run on both for the test? Were both outboards set up for max RPM's at WOT? If this information was in the video and I missed it I apologize in advance.I currently am running an older 115 Yamaha carb 2 stroke and am looking at the Yamaha SHO or Merc 115 ProXs (4 stroke) to repower soon. I think i know why the 115 did better. it is the command thrust model witch means it has the V6 series lower unit, therefore it uses a whole series larger propeller. i think the opti would still beat a regular 115 4 stroke.

can you do the test without the CT gearbox please?
Where both using the same propellers? What prop was used on the four stroke if not?
I think the 4stk mercury really good in this newer version. They lighter and also more displacement as well.

+scorty9318 you are wrong. The new 4 strokes that are coming out now are starting to beat opti max. Also opti is on it's way out it has already begun.
Either the 115 is 125 or the 125 is a 115.
