Admittedly, I'm totally biased in my like of, for lack of a better way to put it, the true, "original" Thrash/Speed stuff. 'Deth, Metallica, Anthrax, Overkill, Metal Church, Possessed, Slayer, etc, etc. I graduated from high-school in '83, so I got a really good, hard, early eighties "btch-slap" from all of that stuff. Love it to this day and always will. Hell, my daughter was weaned on the stuff lol...she'd be throwin a fit and screaming from the baby seat in the back of the car to put White Zombie, Maiden, or Sabbath on from the moment I started the engine. Anyway, music was in dire need of a swift kick in the ass during the early eighties. Across the board it was pretty damn stale. Then Thrash/Speed/Gangsta Rap/and some real edgy Hip-Hop came busting through the door, wearing their sht-stomping jack boots, and laid waste to everything. The Reagan, then the Bush Administration cronies got all pissed off, formed their idiotic PMRC Board, and tried to walk all over our First Amendment Rights by trying to make Metal and Gangsta Rap illegal...saying that it was corrupting the nation's youth (government ignorance never fails right?). After a crapload of arguing, artists testifying in front of Senate Subcommittees, and a bunch of wasted taxpayer money, their efforts failed. The only thing to come out of all of it are the idiotic "Warning: Explicit Lyrics" stickers you see on the packaging of your favorite music when you buy it. Anyway, bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Public Enemy, and NWA etc couldn't have popped at a better time. We finally had something that enabled all of our built-up teen angst to be let out lol. So, artists like Dave Mustaine and others occupy a special place in our hearts. For myself, Dave takes a back seat to nobody in playing ability and talent...being totally biased lol. (Apologies for the ratchet-jawing...it happens when you get old lol)
