I absolutely love that you focus on high end dupes. Your projects are always beautifully executed. It really sets you apart!
You could use one of the hammered spray paint that comes in many metallic colors. That would make the whole lantern have a uniform texture.
U don’t have to seal the lantern. Just sand and redo.
I love the texture on the lantern. It looks more like a true metal finish! LOVE your dupes!! 💝
Thank you so much Terry!
I agree!!!
I like the texture on the lantern. It makes it look old and aged like it's been sitting outside for a long time and very loved and used .
Awe okay thanks so much for watching!
I agree!
Agree
Love the distressed pottery with the herbs.
I love the texture on the lantern too but if you don't try to and it will fine sand paper, or steel wool, love you insporations
Thanks for the tips Sue!
The texture on the black lantern looks OK to me! Don’t donate it unless you really can’t put up with the look. Thanks for all the excellent dupes.
Everything is beautiful!
To add texture to your lantern, you can spray on a texture/stone effect. Let it dry and then spray with a matt black. It should work. 😊
Love your channel!❤
That last blue bowl was gorgeous.
I really enjoyed this series because your focus on duping high-end stores means that you reuse thrifted items and there's no waste. I'm looking forward to your new series starting next week. You never disappoint!
I like the texture on the lantern, idea what if you painted faux moss on it?
That’s such a great thought Karen thank you!!
Hey. The 'lantern problem' can have many reasons:
a) there was some oily residue on the lantern before that was not removed entirely,
b) you used water based paint, didn't let it dry and put a top coat on it, or a variation of products oil paint and then waterbased varnish, or the other way round (you can use both types of products, but you need to make sure they dry for several days before adding a different product),
c) the lantern was very close to a heat source or left in the sun
d) wind blew some dirt into it.
Personally, I'd leave it as it is or paint on top of it with a white colour and distress for a shabby chic style, but I feel like you're more of 'pttery barn' girl, so the affected parts need to sanded smooth, and the rest of the lantern should get a scaff sand before a fresh coat of paint. Hope that helps 😊
And thank you for all the tips - I only wish the thrift stores in Spain were a little bit more like in the US - overhere the whole concept of secondhand is still quite fresh, I'm afraid.
I think maybe the Cooper Lantern had some oil residue on it...or even the "finish" that the Manufacturer used... U would probably have to strip it ..and sand and scuff it up really good..just to remove any residue from the maker.. and then spray it with a just a plain Flat Matte Black.... No Polyurethane coat tho...lol... Hope this helps... Ur THE Best dupe videos out there!!... ✌️❤️😎👍👍
The lantern just needs to be sanded and repainted. I love your dupes.♡✔♡
Great haul dupes.
You might consider lightly sanding anything you want to spray paint before re-applying new spray paint. I don't think the hi-heat spray paint needs a top coat. Otherwise you might want to choose a combination spray that has both paint+sealant. Hope this helps.
Thank you so much for this input and info!!!
My fav was the black and white chair blanket but honestly, everything was amazing
Once again you have done "IT" again. You always manage to give new life to pieces that most people would just pass by in a thrift store. I thoroughly enjoy your channel.
Awe thanks so much Gail!!
Keep your lamp. If you are going to use it outside, it will not matter.
Thanks for the advice, Rhonda!
I think the texture on the lantern gives it a nice “worn” look. I actually like it! But I love everything you make.
Happy DYI beautiful creative lady❤ I love the brown basket and the blk lantern❤ those are amazing items and how you transform them into a beautiful piece. You have a blessed week ❤
I love all your dupes, classy and on a budget! You’re amazingly talented
Woooo hooo! You are the best DIYer. I'm so excited for your dollar tree ideas
I wonder if a light sand and respray of the affected areas on the lantern will save that piece? Fantastic content as always x x 😊👍🫶
Great idea!! Thanks so much Helen!!
I like the texture on the lantern.
I'm so excited for copper accents! ❤
Wow I love how you take thrift store item & turn them into expensive looking elegant pieces !
Thank you so much!!!
Love the texture of the lantern
I love this type of video and all of your videos, actually. You have some awesome thrift stores in your area. I love to thrift and I do come across some great deals as well. For the lantern, maybe use a fine grit sandpaper and repaint it. Or used a spray paint with a texture or hammereredfinish. It is really pretty and you should try to salvage it. All of your DIY’s/flips are so high end and so my style. Thanks for sharing!
Oooooo the textured spray paint might be a really nice solution! Thank you!
Try the hammered spray paint for the lantern
Great idea thank you!
Everything looks great!!! I never ever find anything in my area as you do.
It looks like cast iron, love it
You find the Best treasure
Thank you Donna!
Nice dupes. Especially the basket weave vase.
If you want a difference look, light sanding. Nice video.
Great finds! I love that copper pot. Looking forward to the DT series.
Yay!! Thanks Jan!!
Lantern looks good.
You are soooo talented ❤️ you have such a great taste of decor ❤️❤️😍
Thank you so much ☺️
I’m afraid herbs need full sun. They don’t work as houseplants, unless you just think of them as you do cut flowers, and replace them often.
Yes!!!! Just using as florals until we break our last frost here in Ohio!
High heat spray paint needs to be cured so it may have been a chemical reaction. You may want to try to cure it now but I'm not sure it will work. Once dry, High Heat must be further cured to increase durability. Allow paint to dry 1-2 hours before proceeding to the next steps below. Follow directions accordingly. Items may emit smoke and harmless odor at first.
Thanks for the tip!!
The high heat paint has done that before on me. Its textured. I would just keep it as is and set it out. Not that noticeable from a distance.
I guess you have a point there Diane!! Thanks for watching!
GingerChicRehab mentioned not using a topcoat on that type of paint. I just purchased the Farm Implement Rustoleum paint and I am going to follow her suggestion. She uses it on her outside projects without topcoat.
Can you give it a light sanding and repaint.
Hi 💓 I love ❤️ them all so pretty thanks for sharing Laura
Your Pottery Barn dupes are always my favorite! I hit GW this morning, and found a big lamp I'm doing an 'aged vessel' DIY on later today. I'm still on the hunt for a vase similar to the one you found here, love that!! Thanks for the inspo!
Thank you so much!!! You are awesome!!
I would try Goof off on the lantern. It is kind of amazing.
Everything was very creative and lovely.
I love the rattan like vessel you found! I have to say I’m not a fan of any Dollar Tree projects. But I will check out your first video and give it a try.
As always I love all of these but to be honest I don’t even dislike the texture on the lantern that you said went “wrong” I get it’s not what you expected but I love texture
Awe thanks Laurie!!
Your thrift store finds are a lot cheaper than ours! Lucky you! I like the lanterns result. Looks good to me! Great job, and wonderful ideas!
I love watching your dupes, your so talented. Looking forward to next weeks dupes. Have a great week.
Loved them all
Great video as usual 👌 that larger scaled board is for pizzas, breads, etc to put into or remove from the oven- but I like your re-do😁
So happy that I found your channel! Love your creativity and affordable ideas!
Loved them all…your lantern looks fine, it’s got the outdoorsy look…I used that same spray for an outdoor grill I have, has the same look too because I sealed too..
Love all your dupes, hard to pick a favorite. I personally like the lantern, gives it a not- so- perfect-finish, rustic. I would keep it...
I so look forward to your videos. I am a thrift-er and see so many dupe things. I am living with my parents now, so I really don't have space for my dupe finds. But I sure love to find things, and think this would be so perfect.....
Love you’re dupe videos…So great! There was no link for the book boxes, but I found some on my own. Keep those dupe videos coming! ❤️
I love your videos! On the lantern, I would have sanded before applying the high heat paint. I would do that now and see if it helps.
I LOVE that lantern texture. It looks weathered. A little sanding to age and it's perfect.... may be the types of paint layered on. Going over an oil based paint with a water base paint will cause issues... or is it vise versa?... still it looks like highly desirable crackled paint ❤
Your are totally amazing… I can never pick a favorite bc you’re that good. Everything you choose turns out so high end looking. Loved it all as always!
I can pick 1 favorite & that’s you… you are my favorite CZcamsr… influencer & decorating goddess 😂😘🤗
Can I go to your thrift store they’re amazing finds, holy cow !!❤ you have great ideas .. thank you
All beautiful! Can’t choose just one.
Thank you so much!!
I just love what you did with the bulbous vase, and what a find, giving it an aged old world look, and the addition of the fresh herbs is both aesthetic and useful when cooking. The patina copper pitcher was a real gem of a find! I think copper adds a natural warmth and old world feel to any room, but especially the kitchen. As for the lantern, I honestly think the texture gives it dimension and interest, and I actually liked the copper paint that was on it originally, and I was thinking maybe you could use a copper spray paint on the textured panels only, so you end up with a black and copper lantern, which would look just stunning on an outdoor patio. I think sometimes 'accidental textures' that end up happening end up being magical as they were not planned, they just happen! Just love all of your creations and really looking forward to the Dollar Tree focused DIY creations coming soon! Happy Sunday and Happy Earth Month! 🌎💕
Thank you so much Shannon!!
Your videos are always worth the time. That blue glass bowl is lovely. The texture in the lantern paint is pretty interesting--the only reason I can think of for it happening is that the undercoats weren't completely dry, but I don't mind the look at all.
the high heat paint is for appliances like stoves or heaters. The sealer is not compatible due to chemical composition. But I think you can play off of the texture using craft paint or chalk paint and simply make it look like aged metal finish:-). Great job on these! I subscribed:-)
LOVE the decorative cutting board! As always, total inspo!
Thank you Ella!!
Love the dupes.
Wow, loved the video, you are so talented, really enjoyed watching.
Unos proyectos fantásticos. Gracias por el vídeo
Maybe the high heat spray is not supposed be sealed, because then it would not be classified as high heat. Just a thought. It might be designed for use on grills etc. Loved all the high end dupes! 😀
Great video as always! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much Ann!!
I love the base texture!
Thank you!!
Hey FIA 👋
Maybe try the stone -like spray paint on the lantern .
Love them all as usual!
See you next week xo
Class act dupes as always! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Jana!!
I love your dupes. If you have never used the sealer before over the high heat it might have been a reaction. I think I would sand it down and see how that looked then maybe spray paint it again. It is a beautiful lantern. I enjoy your channel so much.
Great ideas ❤❤❤❤
Thanks girl 🥰😘
Another beautifully produced inspirational video. Love your project's.
Thank you so much Maria!!
About your lantern, probably the sealer dries faster than the paint, creating this texture, obviously they are not compatible. You can: use a stripper and remove everything and start again by forgetting the sealer, or you can wait for everything to dry completely, sand it to make it smoother and then spray the thing black again, and forget the sealer. It would be a pity to give up on it, it’s a beautiful piece.
It shouldn’t be difficult to strip since the layers are not happy together.
Thank you for this info!!
@@FiaGarciaDIY You’re welcome, I used to customize and restore objects and furniture and I used to be an arts and crafts teacher, that’s why I more or less know how products react.
Fantastic as always👌
Beautiful dupes!
One of the best video's ty
My girl 🙌❤
😘😘😘😘
Beautiful
You are a genius of decor. Nice and clean. God bless u and family ❤
Thank you so much Liza!!
Your thrift store is always so cheap!! Lucky lol. I thrifted that exact woven vase about a year ago. I looked it up once I think it sells online for much much more. I love it though. Lol
Yay! Thanks so much for watching!
Love it as usual 😊
copper pitcher have lot of health benefits..esp keep water filled in it overnight and have it next day in morning..big role of copper utensils in Ayurveda
All interesting
As usual everything is super cute! I’m a little dubious about the dollar store makeovers, but I trust you and I’m looking forward to seeing what magic you are able to create!
Another great video!! Total suck re: lantern. Maybe the sealer was a faulty batch? End of the bottle? Did you test spray it? Maybe a good idea to have a “test” piece of plastic/metal/wood/etc. to test spray before hand. Perhaps there was some sort of chemical reaction with the high heat and sealer? We used a grey high heat spray paint to touch up our concrete-esque outdoor firepit. We didn’t seal it. Holds up well to the Florida elements!
By the way, the lantern has more like a hammered metal look. I believe the texture is coming from using a sealer over the high heat paint. If you read on the back, I don't think a sealer is required for high heat paint. It actually can be used on wood stoves and on grills, so I don't think a sealer is necessary. You may want to Google to find out if what I'm suggesting is true or not. By the way, you do fantastic flips, and I like the fact that I can tell how much care you take in doing neat and quality projects. God bless.
I love your thrift videos and am always amazed at the prices. The only thing available in my area is Savers. Their prices are getting ridiculous. I was looking at a vase that had some damage and was priced at $24.99. They actually sell Dollar Tree items for $2.99 and more.
Thank you so much!!!
I agree, I was in Goodwill and they had a cake stand from Michael's, originally $24.99 with 1/2 off it would of been $12.50 and they were selling it for $15. The prices at thrift stores aren't thrifty at all!!
Let the paint dry longer between layers of spray paint and spray farther away and short bursts usually works. Did you sand before spraying? I love all your projects.
These are such great finds! I love your ingenuity! With the lantern, I like that you chose a heat resistant paint and I wonder how heat resistant the sealer is and if it is compatible with with the paint.
Awe thanks 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Perhaps consider using textured paint on the lantern.
Also that spray paint bubbling has happened to me. I figured it happened because I cleaned the piece and might’ve sprayed it while it was still a little wet but 🤷🏽♀️
If you rub it with a bronze something and then wipe off, the rough texture could look intentional (rustic).
Great dupes girl! On the lantern maybe try sanding and repainting?
Great idea! Thank you!!
Your very creative
If you did want to be able to put food on the board brew some really strong tea and stain the board with the tea.
Oh my goodness Fia! You were in Hartville Ohio! The Hartville Thrift is my absolute favorite place to go! How cool it would have been to see you there! I live about 45 minutes from there but try to go as often as I can!! Are you a travel nurse into the Cleveland area?
