    My Zeiss had many toys over his lifespan, but his absolutely favorite toy was a small boat bumper that he found on the beach when I took him for a walk after a storm. I used to throw it for him in the yard and he'd bring it back to me to throw again and again until my arm got tired. He had that thing for years...up until the day he died. The ends fell apart and it had several cracks in it, but he still loved it!
    When it started to look ratty, I bought a brand new one at my local marine supply store, but he still preferred the old one.
    He also loved stuffed 'toysies' in the house and never chewed them up or pulled the eyes off of them. He loved to 'guard' them and dare me to take them away from him. We had hours of fun playing with them together.
    He had his share of Kongs, hard rubber balls, squeak toys, etc. but his favorite for chewing were the large beef marrow bones that I bought for him at my local supermarket. He'd clean them of the meat and marrow, but still chewed on them after they were bare. I always kept a supply of them in the freezer for him when I found nice, meaty one at the store.

      @DobermanPlanet  Pƙed 2 lety +1

      It sounds like Zeiss had a lifetime of love and happiness and playing with you! Way to go trying all those toys out! It's funny how they can stick to an ugly old tattered toy like the boat bumper and enjoy it long after the "life" of it has been used up (to us)! It sounds like he was a great pup!

      @@DobermanPlanet Yeah...he remained a puppy all the way until his last week in life. That's the true nature of the Doberman with those they love.
      My heart wanted to get another puppy, but my head said no at this stage of my life, so I got a four year old Dobie mix rescue. Very serious boy! It will take some time to bring out the puppy in him, but I'll do my best. 😊

      @@deborahhill3547 Yeah! Those plastic boat bumpers are Dobie-sized and practically indestructible...just right for a hard-chewer. It was old when Zeiss found it, but it still gave him years of fun. 😊
      We found a blue doberman years ago, but she had an hereditary skin problem that had no cure. My vet said that it was common in blues. Probably the reason she was a stray. How did your blues do regarding that?
      The one that I have now is a red and he also has itchy skin, but my vet said that was not hereditary, but more common in reds than in blacks. Since I added more essential fatty acids to his diet, he seems to be doing better. Never had skin issues with my blacks.

    • @deborahhill3547
      @deborahhill3547 Pƙed 2 lety +2

      @@hokeypokeypots my old blue girl had it and my boy has it too I will have to copy and paste lol... "Blue Doberman syndrome, also known as blue balding syndrome, or more generally, Color Mutant Alopecia, is a condition that affects blue Dobermans but can also be found in many other breeds with diluted coats." So it really doesn't make them itch it is just a loss of hair, so for example if a hair follicle has three hairs come out these dogs have like one or two hairs and you can see the skin real easy. I have had their skin tested and since it is from the mutant or the dilution of the black and rust color it just goes along with having a blue one... The very first blue one I ever saw when I was young had it too. They are still beautiful. Yes I have never had skin problems with my black (she was all black with muted rust) and my red and rust was fine as far as her skin. The black one was the frisbee catcher, the red one was the boat buoy fanatic she would even ride the jet ski with me, my old blue girl was always a very passive girl but she loved to tug and shake that old boat buoy! Makes me cry to think about how much love I have had from those dogs, each with their own personality. This young blue boy is glued to my hip. As with all of my others I teach them early with hand and voice commands since they are bigger than me... LOL I have started to feed him the dehydrated Honest Kitchen foods (human grade) and he loves it. Too bad we can't post pictures of them here, but I have sent John many pictures of my babies... I am happy that you found another one, they have sooooo darn many "traits" that are the same... velcro... and yet each are their own personality. I have always wanted to have a herd of them.. haa can you imagine that dog food bill... lol

    Kong jumbler and Kong safestix are awesome . Kratos and damocles both went through the puppy stages with one safe Stix but got it replaced recently. Be careful though they are a flail when played with and likely not safe around kids . They also have a nasty tendency to hit guys in the junk as they are failed around.
    If you find a soft toy that lasts let me know my boys destroy them all.

    Enjoyed this. Actually the only one of these toys that My present Doberman has not destroyed within a month was the Kong and the Giggle Ball. He lost interest in the Giggle ball, Ate the rope attachment off the Jolly Ball, most of the others he had broken and was trying to eat within a couple of weeks. I can count on the Kong Ultra to last about 5 months before he cracks them at the seams. Anything that screws together he quickly learned to open, eat the treats, then start chewing on the edges where it screws together. Now he has three Kong toys that we play with together. Leaving him alone with a toy is asking for a trip to the ER Vet.

    The jolley ball and Chuck its are staples with our dobie boy. I've noticed the 8" jolley ball seems to have a bit more sturdy of a handle, it still will get chewed over time, but we keep ours outside so it doesn't get launched into something haha. He goes nuts for the squeaky Chuck it balls thrown in the launcher, but we get the mediums. We stuff and freeze the tux and kongs and he's so happy to see them. That StarMark Bob a lot was a savior for us since he gobbles his food and still gets excited to see it now. But you are right, the top will get torn up, as well as the long version, the wobble. Gonna chime in, I had issues with the West Paw Zogo thing. I have a small/medium lab and she was able to really damage that thing and ended up swallowing bits of it in very little time. German shepherds had it for a long time before the lab and they were fine with the toy. I would say that toy is NOT for serious, determined chewers.

    Hi John, my names Zoe and I’m from the uk, I have a few questions I’d like to ask if you could point to me to the right videos..
    I’ve just got a 5&1/2month old Doberman and he’s settling in quite nicely.. we’ve had a few accidents but had a full day of only outdoor potty’s the past day 🙌 so I’m feeling good on that aspect..
    he’s not familiar with stairs and try as might I can’t seem to coax him up them.. what would you recommend for this?
    Also noises from traffic etc he’s terrified of and I’m in quite an urbanised area so leash walking him is difficult at the moment although there is slight improvement from the first journey out with him..
    also with training do I start with him straight away or continue to let him get used to his surroundings?
    Eating habits 👀🙈 he eats like a pig đŸ· dry food everywhere when eating to the point I’m now hand feeding to try and calm him a little more with it.. don’t know whether I’m helping or hindering myself there..
    We’ve had him 4days now in all other aspects he is very well calm apart from his giddy moments in a morning which I expect with him still being a pup 🧡 any advice or videos you could point me to I would be extremely grateful..
    much love to you and arlo..
    from Zoe and Paschya â˜ș

    The giggleball ,I’m afraid , held half an hr before my Summer found the edge to chew into, she can now only play with it under supervision and then again ,she is half springer spaniel lol
..Summer also destroys any toy with the squeaker in it within days lol the only thing that has stood the test of time so far is her rubber tyre and she’s 17 months old and had it for 6months so far
.the JW hol-eve roller wouldn’t last 5 minutes under he set of teeth lol
.I would give my girl 5 minutes with the invincible snake lol lol ..it would get the ultimate high score in interest but a 1 in durability

    I have a 1yr old male doberman, he was socialized from the day i brought him home with my other dog in the house & close family dogs. once he was vaccinated he has been to the dog park nearly everyday. Out of no where around a week ago every dog there rubs him the wrong way & he will snap as well as he got super reactive on leash. almost never on an alpha but always a small less dominant dog (golden retrievers, cattle dogs, mutts). Even when other dogs start a fight with him he is always at fault just because of his breed. about a month before he started this we brought home a girl from the shelter. i’m thinking it might be in a protective way for her. have you ever experienced this? or know anyways to correct this behavior?

As long as the proper quantity is given and not an over abundance, any time is fine to give them to your Dobie! Typically owners give peanut butter as a treat or as a training reward.
