I’m 30 born & raised in southern Texas, I grew up terrified of AIDS. They also said you could get it sharing ice cream with homosexuals in elementary sex ed 😂

As a gay Catholic boy of the 80s and 90s, the thing that horrified me the most about HIV/AIDS was the isolation and stigma. And yes, I was horrified of the disease itself, but the idea of dying alone, abandoned and in deep shame was even worse of a thought.
I only found out a year ago that my late grandmother used to volunteer to sit at the bedside of AIDS patients who were on their death bed and had no family or friends to comfort them. True to her nature, she told no one about this because she didn't want any praise or award or anything. She's been dead for 15 years and like I said, I only found out a year ago.
