    Good video! I don't fall under the category of viewers about to go to boot camp, but I had the pleasure of doing basic training twice! I want to Canadian Forces Recruit School Cornwallis right before it shut down in 1994 and hopped across the border and in 1998, did U.S. Navy boot camp at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes. I can say that I'm glad I went to Cornwallis first, because it was a lot harder, but also, it made me wiser than the average USN recruit! In Cornwallis, I was probably the biggest goof in my platoon, because I didn't fly under the radar or listen to the advice of graduates, so all the NCOs knew my name...needless to say, I learned my lessons there and just fell into rank and file at Great Lakes. Nobody on staff even knew that I did CF basic training before until after I graduated. That's because I learned lessons similar to this video and just turned out early to everything, kept mouth shut and did everything I was told! 🇨🇦🇺🇸

      how was it was it any hard any tips?

    • @XDlosDominicans
      @XDlosDominicans Před 2 lety +11

      @@Uygar-yl3zi It is hard BUT it is not impossible. Everyone's experience in BMQ is different because it varies with the staff you have & whether you're doing it in summer/spring/winter/autumn. Additionally, with the pandemic, that can also affect your experience because you might do it locally & not in St-Jean.
      Here's to a VERY long one!
      Physically, it is very demanding. However, it is NOT the hardest part. The hardest part is the mental aspect because you'll be starting your day very early (pretty much 5am daily) & then finish it off at around 10pm. Now, even if that might already be your day-to-day schedule, as it was mine, the amount of work you do daily is gargantuan. It includes: PT (Physical training), marching, class work (death by power-point), marching, drill, marching, cleanliness, marching... Notice a pattern? Lol Yeah, you'll be doing A LOT of marching around. So everyday, you'll be doing all those things, all. freaking. day. Now, usually the day with the staff is over at around 5-6pm (whenever you have supper). HOWEVER, if your platoon mates are being a bunch of shitbags, & it will likely happen, they can order you guys to come back after supper for a nice sweet beasting. You'll be CONSTANTLY tired so the hardest part will be to keep on pushing through even if you're exhausted.
      Thus, in addition to the points Duncan said, here is what I would add & emphasize on a point that's already been said:
      -Communication
      -Teamwork
      -HYDRATE!!!
      -Chain of Command
      -SLEEP
      -NO Macho/Alpha/Tough guy persona!
      -Respect the timings given to you
      Communication, teamwork & Chain of Command: basically go hand in hand. Talk with your peers. Do NOT isolate yourself from the rest of the group. Get to know each other. You don't have to like them but just think for a second; you're going to be spending the next TEN WEEKS with them, so the last thing you'd want is to have poor communications with your platoon members & hate each other for 10 weeks. It will feel like an eternity & it already does even if you get along, so don't make it worse. Being able to talk with your peers also helps organize yourselves: what's going on (situational awareness), what's on the schedule for the next day (What to pack, what's the dressing), etc. CoC; there are about SIXTY of you guys in the same platoon & ONE course senior. Can you imagine having about 60 people constantly come to you & ask you about different stuff? You don't the time for that! In addition, you, as course senior, still need to do your own stuff like study, practice drill, cleanliness, etc, in addition to what the staff tell you. So the platoon will be divided into Sections. Each section will have its own Section Senior. So, if you're not a Course/Section Senior, & you have any Admin request, you go to your immediate 'superior' which will be your Section Senior, which in turn will forward it up to the Course Senior. The reverse also applies, Staff have an order, they tell the CS, CS tells their Section Seniors, & Section Seniors tell their Section. Now everyone has the information! To put it simply, the course senior is GOD. Jokes aside, The course senior relays the information & orders from the staff down to the platoon. So if you tell course senior to F themselves, you're basically telling the STAFF to F Themselves. You do NOT want to do that. Pretty much EVERYONE is going to have a turn at being course senior during course. Yes you will mess up. No it is nothing to worry about. Even if the course senior is wrong, do what they said anyway. If you all mess up together & in unison, at least you did as a group.
      Tip: As CS, DELEGATE responsibilities. Your main job is to be the relay of information between the staff & the platoon. You ALWAYS need to be available to receive orders/information from the staff & if that's not possible, well then you delegate your 2IC to do it for you. BUT make sure you told your 2IC that you may not be available! Hint hint: COMMUNICATION. Always tell your fireteam partner where you are going if you're leaving their side. Seriously, everyone needs to know where everyone is at. You need to account for that. Last thing you want is to have 'lost' someone somewhere because they didn't bother to tell anyone where they were going & now it's kinda like a manhunt against time because you're missing your next timing if they don't come back in time & staff will make you pay for it.
      When your time as CS is over & the next person comes in to the position, fill them in on the situation & what you learned, give them tips, how things work, what to expect, etc. Don't leave them in the dark. Same goes for change in Section Seniors.
      HYDRATE!!! Drink. some. Freaking. WATER! That's also the medic side of me talking lol Seriously, you'll be constantly on the move & exerting great physical effort. Often, you don't know what will happen next. So the last thing you'd want is to not have drank enough water, already be thirsty, & then immediately after you're doing great physical effort for a prolonged period of time & you're the dirtbag that passes out because you're dehydrated... Also dehydration can cause cramps. & cramps + hard physical labour doesn't mix well together. So we REALLY want to avoid injuries... and injuries during BMQ is a whole other discussion... You DON'T want to be injured during Basic... bad times...
      SLEEP: You'll be constantly tired, constantly working, the only relaxing time you get is when you sleeeeeeep. Lights out is 10pm. So Go. The. Freak. To. Sleep! It is imperative that you get your rest! If you didn't finish what you needed to, i.e. inspection readiness, then too bad! Really, it's not that big of a deal. Staff will ALWAYS find something that needs 'improvement'. So if you're kinda OCD and/or a perfectionist (like I am), learn to let it go. Accept that you will be chewed out. It is nothing personal against you. It's the staff's job. They don't want to do it either but they have to. So when that happens, just stand at attention (don't move! At attention you don't move!), let them chew you out, go to your happy place inside your head, & just say Yes/No MCpl/MS(Master Sailor)/Sgt/PO('Pee-Oh')/Warrant/Sir or Ma'am (if it's an Officer & ONLY an Officer)...
      In class, when you're getting Deathed by Power point & you feel sleepy: STAND UP & go to the back of the class & don't lean on anything, don't make yourself comfortable. If you want to stay awake, scratch that, you SHALL stay awake, make yourself uncomfortable. If you fall asleep during class, staff will make you pay. All of you!
      No macho/tough guy attitude: Seriously, no one likes that. You'll have a very hard & long time, & pretty much no one will like you. Now, unless you do it in a satirical way & it's funny, then go for it, in that way. Comic relief goes a long way & everyone enjoys that.
      Respect the timings: Pretty self explanatory. If staff say be at XYZ location at 08:00 it means 08:00, not 08:01, not 08:03, ZERO EIGHT HUNDRED. Now sometimes, they might give you impossible timings (& they know it). If you're CS & you realize that, seriously, challenge it! Request more time! AND BE SPECIFIC ABOUT HOW MUCH TIME YOU WANT. You're likely going to be tired, & it might go over your head but you need to be sharp to catch those! About 95% of it is "Shut up & do what you're told" but that tiny 5% (at most; often much less) you can just pause & say "Wait a minute! That order doesn't make any sense! I'll ask for a change in order"
      Bonus: The first 2-3 weeks, you will feel overwhelmed. The transition from the civilian lifestyle to the military one is an intense & immediate shock. Even if you think you're ready, you're not. Staff will have a lot of expectations (so many that it's impossible to achieve all of them, & they know it!). You still want to always give maximum effort in what you do anyway. Don't half-ass everything. Manage your time efficiently. Take breaks. Breathe. Remember, it's only a game & it's only for 10 Weeks. Then, once you get on course for you trade qualifications, it is totally different! It is nothing like BMQ. Well... Unless you go infantry or any other combat trades... then it gets a lot worse than BMQ lol
      Bonus 2: Take your time in BMQ *DAY BY DAY* & then even smaller: Meal Time by Meal Time! 10 weeks is long. Don't think about next week or the next day. Don't burden yourself with the future. Think of the now. Time passes much faster if you only think about as far as the next meal.
      Hope this answers your question(s). Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

      You have to sew all your clothes with name tags you make so that you know what cloths are yours. It takes about 2-4 hours to get it all done. But you will have to put more on as they fall off all the time after you wash your cloths.

    I have my interview and medical tomorrow any tips for me to what to do during that time? and from there how long it will take for them to offer me the job position?

    • @DuncanDaysYouTube
      @DuncanDaysYouTube  Před 2 lety +1

      The best tip I can say is be professional and be honest. And I can’t say how long it could be a few months to a year all depending on what trades you picked and what the demand is for them.

      Once you get it it never leaves your side. I only did 2 live shoots and then 3 days of blank rounds and that’s it.

    Are the showers private/ individual or is it a shower room with no privacy?

    • @DuncanDaysYouTube
      @DuncanDaysYouTube  Před 2 lety +1

      The showers are “private” you have a wall and a curtain in the shacks/on your floor and it’s separated by male/female. In the locker room at the gym it’s all open for the males. No privacy. just like at a pool/sports rink or arena.
