I just realised I’ve been doing military buns nearly every day since grade four because they’re quick, neat, and easy so I’d literally go to school with my hair out and then do either of these just before school started. Maybe they weren’t quite as neat as this, but they were similar.

Was in basic in 1978! Had the same hair issues. Since my hair was cut in various lengths (layered cuts were popular back then), the shorter hairs would pop out of the bun and get me in trouble. I found hair nets at the commissary and would double a net over just the bun and pin it down. Made it through obstacle course and field exercises with hair in place. I used this trick throughout my 10 years and it worked like a charm.

Little hairs falling out is totally normal, especially if you’re doing physical activity or taking gear on/off, but you will be expected to uphold army regulations when it comes to your hair. I wouldn’t do a ton of gel over the top of my head or anything but I would always put a little by my ears and at the nape of my neck. @@AbbyWeaver My daughter had thought about joining the Army when she was graduating, but remembered that I had told her how that I had ended up cutting my hair because it was difficult to try to keep it up. She didn't want to cut her waist-length hair, so she decided not to join. Now, at 42, she's got her hair shorter than mine. When she wore it long, if she pulled it back into a ponytail, the resulting "tail" was as thick as her wrist. That's one reason that she cut it - headaches from having the bands in and the weight of her hair.

@@ladybee883 OMG the pain of pull your hair back can be the worst. I have actually started using these coil hair ties and they help relieve so much pressure. They are linked in my hair essentials in the description. 😁

I have two questions (as someone who‘s never had exposure to military personnel): 1) Can you have bangs? 2) Does the military insist on women using hairspray and gel? Or rather, why are a few flyaway strands such a big deal?

Since you're using gel everytime, do you wash your hair everyday then? Because I heard that it's bad to wash your hair everyday but at the same time, it's bad to leave hair gel on for too long too.

Male here, but I’ve always wondered how y’all do this. It’s easy for us. Just buzz it like every two or three weeks and your good. I’m out now so I grew my hair long. I’ve always like long hair better. Anyways, great tutorial I like how you had a mirror so we can see what’s going on in the back. Best of luck to ya, stay safe.

If you have short hair what appropriate hairstyle would I need to do? Because I have long curly hair and I’m planning to cut it short once I enter since I’ve always wanted it short. I also feel as if taking care of short curly hair would be better.
