Helpful hint: place the cube in the action spot (when Playing a bird), instead of the far left spot, and it will remind you to pay the required number of eggs.

They replied to someone who mentioned this same thing on BGG - "Yes, but it's not something we usually feel the need to do. The food was tighter in this game though so it may have helped. Thanks for pointing it out for those watching. I probably should have added a note in the video."

Not keeping the feeder updated could affect your strategy
40:03 - you may have missed this on p. 7 of the rulebook - "If the dice in the tray all show the same face ... you may first throw all 5 dice back into the birdfeeder."
You had a couple of opportunities to do this.
They did this at least once, so they may have just not wanted to those other times
I'm pretty pretty sure that on one occasion Anthony specifically bemoaned the fact that he didn't have the right food but failed to take advantage of the rule. And I also seem to remember there were TWO identical dice, so possibly they were thinking there had to be one for the rule to trigger. But in fact you can re-roll whenever all the remaining dice are the same.

At 26:50 Frances chooses the lay eggs action and puts out FOUR eggs instead of three. On top of not paying twice for eggs, that’s a huge advantage.

25:00, correcting Frances' error of not playing the egg for the Condor, we also allow correcting errors after the fact while playing a game, no issue there, but not sure I'd agree with that particular correction given the benefit of the Condor getting a third egg for no cost. What I would have likely suggested for that correction, would have been for Frances to play the Condor in the wetland, which wouldn't have cost her an egg. It actually would have likely been a stronger play anyway, because her Nighthawk would have still been free to roam... so maybe there was a cost to keeping that Condor there afterall.
Sorry, that probably sounded judgy, that wasn't my intent.

Someone probably pointed this out already, but you weren’t supposed to refresh the face-up card at 10:17 - You refresh / replace the three face-up cards at the end of the round.
I was just thinking the same thing. I've always left the spot blank until the end of the round.
Actually, the rules say to do it:
"Managing the bird deck
As you draw face-up cards, they are not immediately refilled. Instead, wait until the end of your turn before refilling empty spaces on the bird tray."

This game looks really fun. Not a huge fan of the theme but I still like it. This has probably been said before but I would love it if they did a version of this with dragons as the theme. I love dragons!

I have this game and have kickstarted Elizabeth Hargrave's next game on plants. I think it's beautiful which is a criteria for game purchases. Watching your game play (especially since you were learning it) solidified that it's on my dance card to play soon. One thing, I want to point out, is that this game is designed and created by women. what does the brown ability of the bird do in the first egg box?
@@GameBrigade it gets moved to a new habitat if it's the rightmost bird, but since there were more birds to the right, ot no longer gets moved. It has no other ability.

Great playthrough, you two are my go-to "how to play" site now after you did such a good job with Western Legends. The only thing that frustrates me with this one is that the draw deck of bird cards is the "wrong" way round for Frances for the whole game and she never turns it round 😬

there's a lot of mistakes in this game. but i did enjoy watching it, and i think i'll buy this game! also, @44:16, you rolled to get rats from your owl, but you put the rat you got in your food supply section rather then putting it on the owl.

@@truelifetales yep, they're just innocent bird names, but I get where they're coming from. I use the names to get reactions from family. I do wonder where some of the bird names come from. I suspect the name predates the slang equivalent though.

The bird that gets to move to another area if it’s the rightmost bird...does it have to pay the egg cost or could you use that for a powerful freebie later on?
We just checked the rule book tonight for that question and we decided as a group you do not have to pay the egg cost.

Did anyone else feel like it's very difficult to get food at the beginning? It makes the beginning of the game seem a bit tedious.

Frances might want to change her lock pin on her phone since she typed it in on camera and it is very easy to see what numbers she typed in.
This win doesn't count. The one egg doesn't paid for the bird bumps to the win,... I assume 🤔
If only she had collected more eggs before her action at 19:04...
I like this game but Laying Eggs is too strong because at the last round you only get 5 turns. If you lay eggs 5 times then you can get between 20-25 points which is a lot. It just sucks when you decide to build Resource or Drawing because they aren't as strong as Laying Eggs.

I am curious how much the bird house dice tower, card tray, and eggs add to the cost of the game. I know many see them as positive, but not if it raised the price a significant amount, not to mention making it a bigger box than it needs to be.
I would imagine the printing of the color cards is a good chunk of the cost.

Instead of playing birds last round you should've just layed eggs - you would get more points then you got from birds and objectives..
That's the problem of the game - You could have layed 20 eggs with all 5 actions (since you had 4 per action).. That's 20 VP
Each of you kept not paying the cost for actions...if I'm interpreting the rules correctly, I'm no expert.
I lost count on how many times Frances has cheated in this game, not intentionally of course 😅🤷🏻♂️

I really do not get the hype of this game...it looks like you're just playing a solo game, and that's certainly not what I think a board or card game should be like. But perhaps I'm missing something? I have this similar thing with Agricola. For me a 'real' worker placement game is something like Caylus (Magna Carta)...
