    Audi's latest A8 is undoubtedly a technological tour de force and one that introduces new levels of interior design, quality, comfort and style - even for Audi, which is accepted as the master of the art. It's a shame it doesn't look more distinctive on the outside, but the A8 is closer to the Mercedes S-Class for smoothness than ever before and won't disappoint a demanding driver, either. With advanced 'level 3' piloted driving technology on the way, along with a plug-in hybrid e-tron and W12 petrol flagship, the future of the A8 is more exciting than it looks.

    Please remove the unnecessary colour grading (which looks like a tacky instagram filter), it doesn't really belong to this kind of review. It's fine on Top Gear videos but here when you wish to see the details the filter is only distracting

    • @75KoDe
      @75KoDe Před 6 lety +3

      Naturally, since its the newest player in the game. However, tech is not what solely counts in this segment and for the customers. Having sat in the new A8 I do like the fit and finish of the materials, but he is right when he says the interior does feel clinical and cold. I felt the same.

    We have to remember that the people that can afford a car like this, wouldn't be driving it themselves. This is a typical prime minister car. I absolutely love the new design, it's sleek and toned down and doesn't scream "look at me!". That's why Audi's A8 class has always been close to my heart. It's elegant yet subtle, and the new interior design is brilliant! In my opinion, a car that easily beats the S-Class.

    This segment is traditionally dominated by the S-Class, 7 Series and A8 are fabulous cars but if we look at global sales for all three, the S-Class outsells both 7 Series and A8 combined. I find it quite an achievement that a car which is basically 5 years on the market is still able to hold its position so well. I wonder what the next generation S-Class will do...

    I am annoyed that Audi ditched the swivel wheel. However, with the touchscreen you take your eyes off the road, but the autonomous system can guide and correct your driving asking it. It also gives the MMI system more features and makes it quicker to use. I'm an Audi fan so obviously I'll like this car but the A8 is all about technology and the future so they had to make changes.

    Think Audi has under-delivered with new A8 especially if you compare it against it's Prologue Concept origin, it's like Audi simply tweaked and pasted on the fascia from the concept car and merely updated the rest of the bodywork. Interior is super fantastic and refined but have to add it also has a sense of coldness like in a laboratory unlike more natural set-up of an S-Class. Great comparison of TFT screens and it's functions with Velar. Top review there and a Happy 2018.

    All that level 3 autonomous driving is the same thing available in the S class and Lexus LS 500, those cars can navigate you on the road and round bends too with your hands off the steering for a period of time, it slows down to a stop and speeds again. The Lexus even has a feature that follows the car in its front even if that car changes lane or takes a bend. This system works in situations when the lines on the lane aren't clear or demarcated properly. The Audi doesn't do that at all if i may add, the self parking feature is available on the S class, 7 series and Lexus ls 500 in certain markets as well. That feature is market dependent simple, i don't see anything mind blowing in this car that isn't in the competition. Audi just caught up with the rest in my opinion, there are tech luxury features available in the new Lexus ls not even in this Audi. I like the touchscreen set up though in this A8, it's very nice especially with the hand writing recognition but that's also available on the new Range Rovers and BMW 7 series. The interior design and luxury finishing of this car i must say is the worst of the top 4 flagship models i.e S class, Lexus LS 500, Audi A8 and & 7 series. I don't want to judge the Jaguar cause it's old and will wait for the new generation which should be soon.

    Audi brand is about technology and progress. If you want the knobs and switches go get a Benz but I bet u would feel at least five years behind the tech when your inside.

    Why does this reporter refer to the various power accessories as "electric" rather than simply "power" or "power operated"?
    Electric is a rather dated term and not at all a nice thought when used in reference to seats or chairs !!!!
