When I was 16 in 2004 I dated a girl in high school. We were (at the time) both goth kids (it was popular back then). She dumped me, I swallowed aspirin to kill myself. Flash forward to 2011 and we find each other again. We date for 3 more years and she dumps me again in 2014 to date my 45 year old cousin whose marriage she destroyed by tattling to his then-wife about his cheating with her 19 year old best friend (yes really).
This video came out in 2015 and boy was I still a wreck for that whole year. But as I sit here in 2020, having only dated that one girl in my 32 years, I hope she's happy. We weren't in love, we were attached to one another due to past trauma from high school, nothing more. Attachment through trauma can feel like love, but it's not and it never will be. It took me 6 years of being single to realize this.
But I have the first date since she dumped me in 2014 coming up this Saturday, and boy if I'm not ready to give this whole dating thing another shot after so long away. Wish me luck boys!
