Exactly... They are all missing out on this detail. Later in the episode Alys Rivers taunts him by uttering a bunch of things, one of which was about him not knowing his mother.
Idk considering this is happening in his mind I think in some level he definitely knew it was his mother.

If the person in his vision, came from his own mind… on some level he knew it was his mother.

Harrenhal is that therapist that just twist patients into worse version of themselves, so basically Hannibal Lecter.
It’s a very good analogy, yet I must say in case of Hannibal, it’s more like making his patients see and accept the real version of themselves as twisted as it may be. In the end the most twisted version of oneself is the most intimate version which people hide or even suppress from themselves, accepting this version can be alliterating and make the person stronger and more confident… or get them life in prison if deep inside they crave to hurt someone that’s certainly on them.
Following the same analogy Hannibal may manipulate someone’s mind so I wonder how much of what is happening to Daemon is him understanding himself and the relationships he has with his family and how much of it is actually being amplified directing him to his own destruction.
Harrenhal certainly is Hannibal Lecter doing his worse.
I’m quite intrigued why Daemon didn’t left that place after this dream specially with Alys mentioning his mother.

I thought it was meaning was his longing for acceptance and love. Same reason why he always wanted Viserys to notice him and keep him close, for acceptance and love. Second sons have it kind of tricky in this universe.

Actually, I think it shows how broken he is. To him love and lust are the same thing and he is losing sights of what those emotions truly are. Probably because he actually never felt them or had anyone show it to him.
His mother died when he was a baby, his father never loved him and he seduced Rhaenyra just bc he wanted the throne. I don’t think he EVER shown genuine care for anyone and I don’t think he ever received any care aside from his brother who is now dead.
I think it’s safe to say that house of the dragons writers clearly have mommy issues they need to resolve they need therapy they projecting their mommy issues into the show.
Or maybe the character's mother died at 2 and ended up feeling completly empty and needs endless love (and power) to try to fill the void

To be fair, he does have a major superiority complex, but he is one of the best warriors in the seven kingdoms rides one of the most powerful in battle hard and dragons and he wheeled the second most legendary, valerian, steel sword, in all of the seven kingdoms and his brother did always kind of pass over him for positions that he really probably should’ve given to his brother if Damon would’ve been the hand of the king, the dance of the dragons never would have happend

Nahh dude. Good thing I didn't watch that one. I had accepted cousin and uncle niece as part of Targeryn tradition as anyway they are doing to keep dragon blood thick but none till now did with their parents. It's too much. Tbh for me even uncle niece was a lil too much, not bcz of relation but bcz that uncle is close to father's age, was already adult when niece took birth.

I hate it when people say that they are butchering Daemons character. Like, based on the books he is neither good, nor bad, he just pursues his own goals and agenda. Yes, in the show we see that he is willing to do anything to make Rhaenyra queen, but that feeling of envy he has since season 1 never disappears and it’s now flourishing once again. So for those who are throwing a lot of hate to the directors because they are "ruining" Daemons character you’ll need to relax and enjoy de serie (this also count for the book puritans 🙄)
They say that same sh** about every character and what kills me is that they think they're being so original with it as well😒

The same way you know that the people you see in your dreams are who they are, even if they don't look like their real versions or you don't know how they looked like (e.g. a great-grandfather); your brain tells you who they are!
So that was his mom because his brain in the dream/vision told him that she is his mom, even if his mom looked nothing like her. Which canonically she didn't, since his mom had heterochromia.
OK I get it, there are no purple eyes in the shows, but at least they could have found an actress with blue/green eyes or use lenses. Which is another matter altogether.
There are some things we will never get to see...like a fight between daemon targaryen and a whole jaime lannister...
Also the fact that alys is the one presumably bewitching him, and she even sat him down to say how undignified it is that he ordered to have those women pillaged. And said it’s awful that men want the power but women have to pay the price
I think the comment she made about it’s a shame you never met your mother, could mean a variety of things. But in my opinion, because if he had known his mother’s love, there is a high chance that he wouldn’t be so easy to snap to a decision of “taking” the women and the children. So yes, it is too bad he never knew her. But I also think there was an underlying threat/foreshadow within the statement as well. Like, maybe if he knew his mother, bad things wouldn’t be about to play out

It’s kind of interesting how this time around there isn’t any dialogue from the book to follow, so it’s all up to interpretation. Every episode I’m on the edge of the seat! Oh, my anxiety was flyyyying when Rhaenyra was in her library, reading scrolls at night. So many torches around the documents😂😂 the show runners are slick with instilling fear 😆

The writers are changing daemons story too much, in the books he did not have that dream with his mother, and the lords did not come in the middle of the night and defy raehnyra's claim to the throne, quite the opposite. Plus it was aemond in the books who later on sacked and burned the riverlands, not daemon. and for some reason last season they had daemon murder his wife for no reason, while in the books she truly died in a hunting accident, i have no idea why they're doing this, George R.R. martin said it best himself " screenwriters and producers come in and try to make the story their own story thinking they can do it better , and then they make it their own, they never make it better though, 999 times out of a thousand they make it worse."
And Martin is the one who keeps letting them do it, but he certainly does enjoy whining about it in his many interviews, which keep him too busy to write.

There's a character in the books named Craster who forcibly marries his daughters, forces them all to constantly be pregnant, and sacrifices any sons they deliver to the Others (white walkers). Deeper in the lore, Daemon's grandson takes his own bastard daughter as his mistress while on his deathbed. GRRM isn't a stranger to parent-child incest, he just usually depicts them differently.

Daemon was stubborn a lot of the time yes. BUT he wouldn’t make the same mistakes as his brother King Viserys did…. If anything Otto would’ve been executed at the slightest hint of high Treason. And regardless of what many think. talking about the King’s brother the ways Otto has essentially if it was our world?. Otto would’ve been executed for high treason. any talk of punishment for a kings family that didn’t come from the King or the king’s family was technically treason and would be punished harshly. even if your a friend of the king you might keep your life but will still be punished harshly for speaking about a king’s brother or sister like that. Viserys didn’t do this though and as a result Otto took advantage of this many many times. Further more Daemon even knows people shouldn’t talk about a king or his family like that.
Daemon showed this when one of the houses overstepped and Daemons exact words to the lord were (I will say whatever I wish about my brother… You will not) making it beyond clear that the lord overstepped and Prince Daemon was highly loyal to his family
