  • Agent Shadow 400 is a repurposed panchromatic film that apparently has a lot of flexibility. at box speed it has nice soft grain, good contrast and a pleasant bloom to the highlights. Apparently it can also be pushed to 3200 which I will have to try soon and see how much it changes from shooting at box speed. If you are looking for a flexible B&W 35mm film check it out.

    Funny thing, I had a look at this film today at a german shop, for 9€ per 36 exposures it is right around the price of Illford HP5 400 which I love.

    Can you please tell me what film did Margaret Bourke White used in her cameras? Accurate answers please.

    Agent shadow is just Kentmere 400 with a cool label.

    Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this B&W film. How does it compare in terms of sharpness, grain structure and contrast with Ilford FP5 or Kodak Tri X? Is it less expensive or about the same cost. Thanks.

      Thanks Norman. Cost wise I’m not sure. A quick google search would help you there. As far as grain, sharpness and contrast I’d say it falls somewhere in the middle. Grain isn’t as clean as ilford but not as punchy as tri x. It’s got good contrast but that bloom in highlights leads it to be softer and smoother so not as smooth as ilford but not as punchy as tri x. Same with sharpness.

    Define box speed

    • @graham_white
      @graham_white  Před rokem

      Unless I misspoke or said something in an odd way, box speed is what the film is supposed to be shot at. So example Portra 400 is 400 “box speed” film which will yield the best results with color. Grain etc based on density and so fourth of the actual film strip. But people push it up to even 3200 at times

    Super unrelated, but your wife looks like Morticia Addams (in a good way, no insult here). I think if you do family Halloween events or even just costumes, you should recommend her be that. And it's an easier one than say Gordon.
