    Excellent shooting. Definitely show casing how minimal environmentals changes your impacts.
    Firing pin spring tuning is key for these rifles. I usually will have a pack of springs rated from 13#-20#. I unfortunately have had to source them from a different spring company because I kept getting spring sag over time with the factory provided. You can verify spring tension with the amp press.
    Your ammo on target set 3 started to throw a lot of velocity deviation on one row. During a br match, I look for two shots that do this and skip that row. Long gong matches and bench Silhouette matches are becoming very popular for 22lr. Alot of fun!

    The "flyer" on the last shot of your second target was 1093 fps, or almost 20 fps then your average velocity of 1075 fps ish ( I couldn't see every Garmin reading). That will make it at least 1/2" high every time. Since I have started using a Garmin for almost every shot I have fired I see about a 1/4" elevation change per 10 fps at 100 yards. I now evaluate my groups by shots on waterline at the same velocity.

    John, not sure if you have done one yet, but I’d love a video on how you clean or maintain your precision 22lr rifles. Just watched the video you did on cleaning your center fire rifle with that bore cleaner and I’m curious if it is a similar process with the rimfire rifles. Thanks for making these videos and sharing your shooting hobby!

    Hi John, what are your thoughts on optics focal plane for target work? I know FFP is all the rage, but how about target shooting which seems to be what you do most? I'm particularly thinking of rimfire like this video. Thanks, Buzz. Frisco, Texas

  • @mikemcallister5287

    Your rifle is recoiling different on different shots; i.e. sometimes the reticle ends up to the left; sometimes the reticle stays more in the middle. There is dwell time with rimfire; more so than centerifire. In my opinion you need to get a rest setup where the gun is recoiling straight back the same each time. Thanks. Mike McAllister

    Hey John, can you or I for that matter, is it ok to bring the garmin xero to the line during a F-class match. I see you mounted it on you Seb. Do you put it on there while shooting "official matches". I use mine in club matches and most everyone else does too. I've never shot a national event so I was curious. I know it says no electronics but everyone has a phone. It seems like it should be ok but I feel like the answer is no...

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  Před 4 měsíci

      No it's not allowed at an actual F Class match. I just mount it up there for testing or when shooting these 22 matches.

    What’s the concrete barrier going across the center of the range?

    • @sidekickbob7227
      @sidekickbob7227 Před 4 měsíci +1

      My guess is safety. It prevents high shots flying above their barriere behind the targets.

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @sidekickbob7227 is correct. Our club is in the middle of the city so each range we have has the concrete 'eyebrows' to help keep errant shots from leaving the range.

    Forgive me if I’m being a complete BR newb. I’ve never shot it and I don’t have access to the rest and bags you use. However, I noticed that every shot you take the crosshairs jump to the left 1/2” to 1” if I’m judging the farther size correctly. If you were to have asked me before watching the video I would have guessed all the movement of the gun would have been back and forth with a little vertical hope upon firing. It seemed like a very consistent movement so I assumed it’s not an issue but I’m interested to know why it does that.
    I could have sworn I had heard the return to point of aim on the rest in an interview you did talking about NPA on believe the target.
    I vote for getting the gun lot tested and a tuner… I wanna see what you can do with that. I’m aware of a guy that sells tuners… he can also show you how to shoot groups this size at 1000 yds. ;)

    • @austinkroe
      @austinkroe Před 4 měsíci

      @@dcalf1not exactly the part I’m talking about specifically. It’s the gun moving itself during firing. Watch when the shot touches off. He makes no movement to the stick on the rest or move the gun in any way that can be perceived. The reticle naturally settles directly to the left about an inch from where it was when the fired the gun. Then he moves the gun to check the target

    Time to start sorting bullets. Start with just trying to spin the bullet in the case. If it spins, set it aside. Then do overall length, then rim thickness, then overall weight. You should be able to cut those groups in half. Just keep the similar ones together. Not that they are bad, it's just that they are different. So you still have all good ammo, just separated by "groups for groups". For the cost of that rifle, my 10/22 can outshoot it with sorted ammo (though it's not stock at all). Also try plated bullets, the lead bullets don't shoot for me, no matter how "good" they are.

  • @josephjulian2503
    @josephjulian2503 Před 4 měsíci +2

    You have commented on video about weak firing pin springs on your center fire rifles causing erratic ignition. This video you are lessening the spring tension on the Vudoo which in my mind would cause the exact same issue with rim fire. Logic would be you would not wish to do that on purpose. Then, I’m just a poor boy from the country. My good .22 is a 61 year old Winchester.

    • @BRADASSOFFGRIDHOMESTEAD
      @BRADASSOFFGRIDHOMESTEAD Před 4 měsíci

      Agreed. He should be shimming the spring after his adjustments.

    • @austinkroe
      @austinkroe Před 4 měsíci +1

      I thought the idea was to get the firing pin spring as lot as possible while still maintaining consistent ignition. So if the gun is already oversprung then lightening it makes sense to me. All about that trial and error.

      @josephjulian2503 Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@austinkroe then why are there all the extra power springs available? Not saying you’re wrong, but, don’t think I’ve seen a lower rated spring than oem.

    • @austinkroe
      @austinkroe Před 4 měsíci +1

      I think Vudoo may have done a video on their various springs once. However my assumption is because some 22 manufacturers make harder rims than others or people think they need them because there is friction somewhere in their ignition system and the heavier spring overcomes the friction better. But I’m leery of jumping straight to heavier springs most of the time unless all other firing pin issues have been addressed or checked first.
      As for the Vudoo single shot, I have no clue as I’m not well educated on that action. In fact I think this firing pin spring adjustment must be a feature on that action specifically. I’ve never heard of this adjustment from any of the PRS/NRL guys I know that shoot Vudoos. Maybe Vudoo starts this action with the heaviest spring they think anyone could possibly want and let everyone adjust down from there. Seems like a decent plan for a BR action. John will have to chime in on that though.
      I do know that I tried the extra power spring in my CZ and it did not help the accuracy of the gun. I tried it after Shane at the Lapua testing facility told me to make sure to test the ignition system for ultimate accuracy. My recollection is that he told me that too light is inconsistent ignition and can result in bigger groups. He also told me that too heavy of a spring can also disturb the gun, in that when it hits harder it makes the gun vibrate more before the round is fully ignited even. Or at least that’s the theory; I’ve got no reliable way to test it.

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The spring kit they offered (no longer available) was actually ALL lower than the OEM spring.

      Hl John,
      Hello from Aussie Land.
      I agree with both comments above and would add that a couple samples is totally insufficient evidence. I also have a Mod.22s. The firing spring is factory set with about .002" clearance of the firing pin from the stop at the front of the bolt. By un-doing the spring adjustment by one turn would have the pin hitting the stop, and 2 turns hitting harder causing un-wanted vibrations in the rifle. I am using Eley Match and consistently shoot well under 1 inch at 100yds. with the factory setting, an the heavy spring installed. The barrel is a 3 grouve Benchmark, and we all know that all barrels are different.
      I enjoy all your videos.
      Cheers from down under.
      Trevor.
