  • Characters are a vital component of a story, but making them memorable and real can make for a gripping tale. Although every author has their own methods of creating characters and worlds, in this video, I share what I do to create a realistic mental sketch of my "actors."

Hey Michael, let me know your thoughts. Everyone tells me I should have a website, but I don't see the point. I can always just send people my resume or writing samples. If I publish a book, I can send them the Amazon link. I don't like having my personal info or unpublished work up for all to see. I feel similarly about LinkedIn. I had a website years ago, but no one contacted me or offered me a job. Do I really need one?

Yes. Although it may sound self-serving because I do work with GreenGeeks Web Hosting, I wholeheartedly believe writers of any kind should have a website. Freelancers and authors alike.
The way I think of it is like this: It's a base of operations that is easy to share and can lead to people finding your books with a Google search.
Search my name in Google and see just how far my roots have spread. I did that on purpose...now, I just need to dial it up slightly as an author.
But my point is that having a website is probably one of the more cost-effective elements of marketing yourself as a professional. Of course, keeping a good flow of content to give people a reason to visit is key, especially in today's online-driven climate. In fact, a lot of agents and publishers won't even look at you if you don't have X amount of followers on social media. It's all interconnected, and using your blog as a solid base can be exceptionally useful.
