      Living in Mobile Alabama Hi! We live in Southern California and looking to sell our house here and relocate . We've been looking at Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama as possible places. I've been looking at property in Alabama and for sure, it's much affordable than many places.

    Grew up in suburban Minneapolis, lived in Mobile from 2016 to 2020. Bought a brand new townhouse in Spanish Fort in 2018 and I have been renting it out to come back to part of the year. Ive lived in Vegas and DC as well, im back in Minneapolis and I miss Mobile so much. I was single, in my late 20's, made a decent living and Mobile was the most fun I had in any of the places I have lived. The gulf is truly one of America's hidden gems and I hope it doesnt get too crowded over the next 20 years. There is something to be said about a greater metro area of 420K, its just the right size. Something I'd like to point out to the single people wondering about the dating scene here, if you put your best foot forward and put in some effort, it blows all the major cities away. So many cute, single girls that were so easy to talk to and very down to earth. People actually live life in the southeast, they arent parked on instagram or taking pictures for instagram like they are in any of Americas major metro areas. The food, the people, the women, the landscape and the way of life is so wholesome here and the overall vibe of the Gulf Coast is absolutely unbeatable.

    Jeff, this is a super video. In a lot of city’s that I have visited all the realtors have a channel on public TV that shows houses. But the best part of the video is that they give more about things to do within 50 to 100 miles of the city. Restaurants, stores, school, churches, ball fields for the kids even dealerships. It is just a big advertising channel. That is usually the first channel I go to when I travel. Housing is important but once people move to a new area entertainment is also important. Keep Momma and the kids happy is a good idea.
    Again I love the video. You have done a good job.

    Hey, Jeff, great vids. Realtor up here in Toronto dreaming of snowbirding somewhere in the future :) I think Mobile and AL in general could get more retirees in the future. So many positives that most people don't know about. I like Mobile's "Goldilocks" size too, not too big, not too small, just right. Closest I've been is Panama City, FL. Most Canadians never think of the panhandle, let alone Alabama. Too bad. Most northerners only think of FL, often because their friends or family are there. But if those considerations don't play into our decision when the time comes, I'd definitely give Mobile a look. Northern Gulf beaches, including Alabama's, gotta be the nicest in the US. Have a great year!

    I lived overseas most of my life, but my husband is from the south so we moved to west mobile and I am having a hard time. I can't walk anywhere there are no sidewalks. I've gained 15 pounds because I have to drive everywhere its not like that in Europe. Your video has helped me because I have been crying to my hubby wanting to move. I am a vegetarian so the restaurants means nothing to me. I like to get out and run, walk exercise, theater and art... you mentioned the beach. Is it close, can I do my morning runs on the beach? I live off of Cody Road and Cottage Hill...

      So great to hear from you. I know that Mobile can be a culture shock compared to living overseas. But, with that said, there are certainly a lot of bonuses. The southern hospitality, and the food is great, but because of being a vegetarian, you will definitely have some limitations. As for the beach, I have another video about Dauphin Island, which is only about 35 minutes from where you live. If you really wanted to walk on the beach, you could be there super fast as an option. Also, cottage Hill Park or metal of honor park is also a great place to walk as well. But, with Publix coming to McFarland and College Hill, that would likely open up more opportunities for neighborhood walking as I can only imagine they will be putting in sidewalks.

      Actually, at this exact moment, we are experiencing more rain than we have had in a very long time in Mobile County. It has been crazy. Mobile in general is one of the rainiest cities in the entire country. But, it really depends on where you live. If you live in the Midtown area, often they experience more flash flooding and you hear stories of people's cars getting flooded and streets getting flooded. However, that is pretty rare with most places in Mobile. It's definitely not common for streets to be flooded. Just know this, Mobile has a lot of rain, you just have to keep an umbrella in your car at all times!

    I was born in Mobile and moved into the Midwest in 2002. so when I am able to move on my own. Mobile would be my first city in my mind. besides, do they shoot movies or make move in Mobile or around the Alabama state if you know so?

    • @livinginmobile
      @livinginmobile  Před 4 lety +1

      With regard to making movies, there have been several movies made in Mobile and if my understanding is correct, there have been some tax advantages for movie studios in doing so, but as of late, obviously, everything has shut down. Hopefully there will be some projects started in the very near future.

    Potential expat from Denmark here.
    Is it a place a single 29yo guy would want to live for a couple of years?
    How safe is the city and are there areas I should avoid?
    Are there other places to live within 30 minutes commute from the harbour, that are better?
    What's your input to cost of living? Is my salary of 83k (after pension contributions) enough to get me by, or decent for the area?

    How is the crime rate in Alabama? Also am thinking its not as diverse as LA or NYC with different multicultural backgrounds.

    • @livinginmobile
      @livinginmobile  Před 3 lety

      I don’t think it’s fair to compare or expect Mobile to be as diverse as two of the largest cities in the United States, but I think our city is very diverse considering the size. As for the crime rate, I think it will vary and be different depending on the area of town and the different factors that are involved. I wish I had a better answer for you, but there are so many variables when looking at the crime rate and diversity of our city.

      @@livinginmobile I see, but when I say diverse, I mean would I be able to go to some store and buy rice? And am not talking about an Asian store, just your typical big box store like a walmart.
