  • The 4-time formats used in aviation are:
    • Local Mean Time (LMT) - The time, as determined by the Mean Sun, at an observer’s local meridian.
    • Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) - The mean solar time of the longitude (0°) of the Royal Greenwich Observatory in England
    • Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) - The Mean solar time of the longitude (0°), kept using Atomic Clock
    • Standard Time (ST) - The official time in a local region adjusted for location around the earth, established by law or custom

      Hi I would like to ask regarding your True Altitude video, is it applicable For Altimetry Meteorology Questions?

    • @AnsweringATPL
      @AnsweringATPL  Před 4 lety +1

      @@kavinraj6613 Yes. You just need to change the second part of the equation and value of 1 hPa.
      For General Navigation the equation is
      True Altitude = Indicated Altitude ± (4 * Alt/1000 * ISA Dev)
      Alt = IA - Airfield Elevation
      value of 1 hPa = 30ft (Unless specified by the question to use 1 hPa =27ft)
      For Meteorology
      True Altitude = Indicated Altitude ± (4 * Indicated Altitude/1000 * ISA Dev)
      value of 1 hPa = 27ft (Unless specified by the question to use 1 hPa =30ft)

      @@argydimitrelis611 The hard part for general navigation is the earth and chart, the rest is not that hard. The reason why this section is hard because it is 3 dimensional. I also have the same problem when I first study this subject. Try to use a ball or something spherical to help you imagine the situation. Or better still get a globe to help you visualize it. That is how I study general navigation. I hope this tip will help you.
      You also need to be proficient in using CRP 5 or other types of flight computer.

    Hey man, this video was great, as always, but could you have a look and confirm if the question #51757 on Aviation Exam is correct, please? It is really confusing, because the Question is asking for the SR in Singapore in ST by telling us the SR in ST at the Maldives. I dont understand in this particular question why we have to calculate the ST by using the change in longitude.

      @@viniciusmacielcosta5118 There are 2 concepts applied in this question.
      1. At the same latitude, SR occur at the same LMT
      2. Changes in SR time is more significant at higher latitude compared to lower latitude.
      Since both Maldives(3°N) and Singapore(1°N) are located near the equator, we can assume the SR time at both locations occur at the same LMT.
      MALDIVES
      ST = 0720
      Convert ST to UTC (UTC is LMT at the Prime Meridian)
      ST = UTC + 5
      0720 = UTC + 0500
      UTC = 0220
      Since Maldives is to the East of Prime Meridian(PM), LMT at Maldives is greater than LMT at PM.
      LMT = 0220 + (73°32' ÷ 15°)
      LMT = 0714
      --------------------------------------------------------
      SINGAPORE
      Based on our assumption, SR time in Maldives in LMT is the same as SR time in LMT in Singapore.
      SR = 0714
      Convert LMT to UTC. Singapore is to the East of PM.
      LMT = UTC + TC
      0714 = UTC + (103°51' ÷ 15°)
      UTC = 0019
      Convert UTC to ST
      ST = UTC + 8
      ST = 0019 + 0800
      ST = 0819

      Standard time is dictated by the government. It does not follow the mean sun convention. The standard time zone considers political, economic, and other value deem necessary by the government.
