Awesome video Jason. I've been shooting traditional all my life. You're gonna love it, it's a lifestyle, not a sport. Earning your accuracy, not buying it. If you ever get the chance to come to ETAR (Eastern Traditional Archery Rendezvous) here in Pa, I'd love to meet you. Started watching your videos for the racing, now for the archery. Just awesome. Thank you.

Hey, great video look forward to more. I bought the same how in a recurve for my nephew, I didn't so any silencing but I did adjust the tiller more towards 8" so maybe a longer tiller would help with the last bit of noise and hitting your arm guard.

Definitely check your brace hight that can also be a part of your problem with hitting your arm and noise
I am enjoying watching your traditional journey keep them coming 👍🏹

That’s pretty cool I am going to get back into the traditional shooting I never really got into it all the way cause we were perfecting the compound Even if I don’t hunt with it right away I want to be able to shoot traditional

I have had probably over 25 traditional bows in my lifetime. I owned bows costing over $700 which were beautiful bows but I couldn’t hit the target near as well as this $100 recurve that I now shoot. Like yourself due to a bad back I dropped from 55 pounds to about 42 pounds. Some people say that 40 pounds is not enough to kill deer but I knew a young lady once that hunted with 35 pounds to kill pronghorns and deer successfully. It’s all where you hit the animal.

After 61 years of hunting with recurves and longbows, including the identical Black Hunter longbow that you have, I can help with a few things. First off 3 under will be noisier than split finger. I can shoot both ways but only hunt with split because it is quieter.
Second a B55 string will be quieter than a fastflite so I always use b50/55.
Thirdly, adjusting your brace height may change the sound. Each bow has a sweet spot and you need to find that in yours. Some the brace will be around 7.5-8”, others lower. Mine performs best for me at 6.5”.
Fourth, moving the silencers up or down the string will change the sound. Some like them at 1/4 and 1/5 of the string length, others like them at equal lengths, some in the middle and some at the end. I have them about equal lengths from both limb tips and nearer to the tips.
Fifth, that bow quiver needs to be slid on farther/closer to the handle because it need to be off the working limb or it will affect arrow flight. I know you bought the wrong model but it’s worth it to get the correct one for wider limbs, think recurve because the longbow limbs are the same width as recurve with this model. You want that quiver to be positioned very close to the end of handle. Also that quiver head and arrow holder will turn so position them that the arrow holder is inside the limbs, 180 degrees from what you have it now and adjust the top to match so the arrows go straight into the hood. Your broadheads need to be completely inside the foam.
Sixth, you can still shoot those 500 spine arrows out of that bow by shooting cock feather in towards the shelf but I agree the 600’s would be better. They are what works out of my 30-35# Black Hunter TD longbows(exact same bow as you have-just different name) but I prefer to shoot aluminum or wood to get the weight, anything 500 grains and up is perfect.
Seventh, is there leather on the fingers of the glove you are using? Probably not because I can hear two sounds when you release. One from your glove initially and then when the string comes to rest/brace. In a pinch if you forget a finger glove or your tab(this is what I’ve always used) one can use a regular glove but your release will not be as good because of the fabric resistance. Smooth leather and or hair surface like on some tabs will be smoother/slicker giving one a cleaner release. The cleaner release the straighter the arrow flies, given you have the correct spine.
Lastly, if you are hitting your arm guard you need to rotate you forearm slightly. This takes care of not striking your guard. In fact, the vast majority of the time I don’t wear one because I never hit my arm. Only in cold weather when I have on bulky sleeves do I put one on so the string doesn’t hit the sleeve, which affects arrow flight.
Stick with it and keep shooting, good luck!

I like the bow and I like your form while shooting. But I have an idea that mite help it is a three finger release aid that allows for a more natural hold and they are easy to make them. ( Check out the back yard bower on you tube) he makes bows using p.v.c. pipe but he also makes the release aids to. And you can make them from 3/4 - 1 inch pipe depending on how large your hands are. He makes them from schedule 40 p.v.c. pipe but you can also make them from schedule 80 or even hard wood scraps that you mite have playing around. I am a diyer and know what it is like. Anyways getting on to the releases I have used them now for about the last 5 years with my long bow and love them. Not only does it make for a more natural release but also smother and quiter release because after you draw and anchor for your shot all you have to do is point with your index finger that is holding the string. Takes a little practice but it is great and makes a big difference.

I have the same bow, best thing you can do is buy an aftermarket FF custom string. Will improve performance and quiet it a good bit. 👍🏻 oh and I have a pile of custom bows from all the big names and this cheap long bow shoots as good or better than all of them 🤙🏻 I’ll be buying more including the recurve version, at different weights just to play with them

Paper tuning will let you know how your arrow is flying and it can be done at short range. It will help you diagnose many problems especially where your nock [lacement should be.

I shoot a Black Hunter longbow. Same bow from the same factory. Great bows. If you go a fast flight string….they are noisier than the Flemish your shooting. Looks like your brace height mite be low, need to check that. When you go to shoot, move your rear ( right) foot around about 6 inches. You won’t hit your arm guard any more and actually won’t need one. Arrow flight looks good. Check out Simmons broad heads, they are preferred by traditional guys a lot . They bleed a deer like nothing else does. Good luck with the new bow. I have buddies that kill hogs and deer with Simmons.

My last bow kill was a doe I with a reflex deflex longbow that was 57 lbs at my draw length. So glad I sold it before I hurt shoulder! From all you said concerning your back issues and the light draw weights you’re pulling, though, and wanting something forgiving and to be able to hold the bow back and all…why you so stuck on hunting with a longbow? Why not just shoot one for FUN at whatever draw weight you need to reduce your risk for further injury? There’s absolutely no shame in hunting with whatever you need to insure clean kills, whether it’s a compound or a crossbow.
