Those eyelets your D rings are attached to on the ARB bar really are not made for a recovery point (snatch strap). They're actually made as a jacking point for a hi-lift. ARB makes an adapter for the hi-lift jack specifically for the 80 series that attaches there. It would be bad for folks that see the video and use that as a D ring/strap recovery point.
OB just an ol' sailor's trick to secure your shackles run a zip tie through the eye of the screw pin and back around the shackle so the pin doesn't vibrate loose.
Just a note: those pull points where you have the shackles mounted are expressly called out by ARB as not pull-rated. I've got an 80-series too with this same bull bar, and agree that this is the best choice for our vehicles... But you'll want to attach pull-rated tabs (like a URB tab) to the frame directly to ensure your pulls don't deform the bumper or frame due to mis-aligned pulling forces. Cheers!
An understandably odd truth: those ARB shackle mounting points are meant for light duty only. Couldn't find the my manual for reference but have previously confirmed by calling ARB support staff since this was surprising to me too. Installed the Duiser URB (duiser.com/toyota-land-cruiser-urbs/) since this was much more affordable than the ARB option (www.arb.com.au/products/recovery-equipment/recovery-points/)
Didn't see Grant already posted this but I also posted this as well. wouldn't want your viewers to see the video and assume that's a safe recovery point. ARB sells a hi lift jack adapter that attaches there. part number is 3500040
For a front bumper ARB is about the only brand I would consider, and it is what I ran on my '91 4Runner, and now my 2007 FJ Cruiser. I have the rear ARB on my FJ too. Great video Michael. Are you still running the wire cable line, or have you switched over to a synthetic winchline?
there is no need to add a bumper for overlanding starting out if you are rock crawling or going to hard to reach areas then yes you need a bumper but you are also going to need alot more first. that being said adding a winch and winch plate would be a good start if you want something useful and getting a bumper allows for easier use and installation of a winch but is not necessary. just look at all the expeditions through africa and china using stock 4x4s who are doing alot more crazy things than any beginners will do when you get more into overlanding and its a big hobby and you love it by all means add a bumper but until then pack up your camping gear and hit the road. hell you could overland in a prius if you really wanted to. its about the adventure not the vehicle. that being said. love the vids man keep em up!

Interesting.... The new ARB Summit Bumper for the 3rd Gen Tacoma does not have recovery points on it. In order to have a recovery point you have to spend another $250 for one of those. I kinda get it though because the ARB Recovery Point seems much more secure on the frame then pulling on the bumper.
When I was looking for an off road bumper I finally settled on the shrockworks bumper for my Xterra. It had thicker metal and far thicker tow points. There are some aspects to the ARB bumper I like, but over all I am happy with the performance of the shrockworks bumper. Really like the video and review. Could you do a review and discuss winches? Thinking about a self recovery device for my Xterra. Do not want to wait for hours for someone to pass by to get help.
One should know too that ARB bumpers are Airbag approved. Lesser quality bumpers are not and your insurance provider could cause you grief in the event of an accident. Just an FYI in considering a bumper. How did you attach your limb risers to the ARB?
Overland bound- I have ARB bull bar on my Jeep Cherokee and my friend has one on his 4Runner, it's a well made bumper, but the powered coat is not as tuff as you think it should be, it will rust and and looks bad if you lived near anywhere that has fog. Both my friend and mine have heavy rusty spot all over the bumper.
I really like your 80 mr.bound. when im done with my 96 it will look just like yours. accept I got slee slider steps and will be getting the slee rear bumper. I just ordered the gobi ranger rack and next will be this bumper.

The one thing I'll point out is that my Hella Lights just BARELY fit. In order to get the lights to point down more (which I would like) I'd have to indent the top rail of the rack on the front where the back of the lights hit.

I have an ARB bumper like this on my Land Rover Defender, and after I had mounted it, I discovered that it covered the VIN on the rh chassis leg, making it impossible to get it MOT approved. Which is strange for a Defender-specific bumper!
Once again another great video. Always like watching your videos on the rig as you and reading on IH8MUD convinced me to purchase one. Its unlocked :( however being 15 and being on a budget made me justify it. Plus I think I am going to retro fit it with at least a rear locker this summer either OEM or ARB and I want to know how it works and how to install. I did want to ask you however do you get a lot of wind noise in your 80? For me road noise is not that bad even with 33s but the wind noise is pretty bad. Anyway thank you and keep up the great vids!

I’d argue that the Front bumper should be the first thing. No tire, slider or suspension is gonna protect you from a deer/hog. At least in my area

How far out from your XJs grille does the arb stick out?
