Sohla is such a great teacher, she doesn't just tell you "do this" she very clearly tells you why so you're learning the reasoning behind the technique. And she does it with this cool calm vibe
She’s so cool 😊
The intro of her book talks all about her philosophy behind this. She was always the kid asking “but why?” in school and was often met with unhelpful adults that gave the whole “because I said so” spiel. Now, as an author and teacher, she actively tries to foster curiosity in her audience and include all the “why”s behind what she does. I think it makes her one of the most helpful and engaging food hosts out there right now.
@@tjberrian Oh I love that, thank you so much for sharing this
@@tjberrianHave you asked why the nepo baby failed as a chef and businesses that employ her fail?
Outstanding attitude and techniques, Thank you!❤
“Part of a mini-series.”
Please don’t make it a mini-series. Just make it a series. Keep it going. You’re awesome and we’re learning great things.
Absolutely! So interesting and informative!
cue flashbacks to my aunts telling us to grab a clean pillowcase and then sending us outside to twirl the salad greens around! Love seeing that on a cooking show!!!
42 Grinds of pepper!.... And her "IDGAF" expression is just so spot on❤❤
I counted the grinds too!
I love that "what? we're making a lot of vegetables, you're gonna eat this for days, this much pepper is just _fine_ ".
I love how Sohla's is just vibing at the end while cheewing the broccoli and cheese
That last scene distilled all of my love for Sohla. She's been living her best life her entire life irrespective of others thoughts ☮
@@jtmg11yep, that's what nepo babies do
@@emboe001 she's a nepo baby because her parents owned a Baskin Robbins? wait til you hear about George Clooney

Sohla - making an impassioned plea for raw broccoli
Me - Rob Rocklee
Probably the most informative cooking show out there. I would love to see Quinoa recipes in cooking 101. 😊
how did you guys know I bought a ton of broccoli yesterday??? never clicked so fast, love this series and i've already referenced it so many times!
I hope this series never ends. Love Sohla and love all these recipes. Going to the store now to buy some broccoli!!
sohla just maniacally grounding pepper over the salad in silence is killing me omg
The Hitchcockian zoom in as Solha ground the pepper is amazing 🤩😍 and hilarious
I always learn so much from Sohla videos! I had no clue to use that much salt to blanch different items. I too am super shy about using too much. That is so helpful!!!
For blanching and boiling, it might be helpful to consider that most of that salt stays in the water that you throw away. You want to salt the water pretty heavily so that enough of it ends up in the food (which like Sohla mentioned also depends on how long you're blanching/boiling).
"Enough" salt for many people is none. I haven't yet missed the salt I don't put in most food, including blanching water. IMO, salt is a terrible flavor.
@@joeellison4677how on earth is salt a terrible flavor…salt is practically required for so many foods
100% agree on the vinaigrette ratio. The ones I see most people in the US using is wayyyyyy too much oil and not enough acidity. Then you have to use too much dressing in general to get the flavor boost you want, so the salad ends up goopy. I much prefer a thinner but more impactful dressing that I can use less of to get a bunch of flavor. I do anywhere from 50-70% acid depending on the dressing, but never anywhere close to the only 30% that a lot of dressings recipes seem to recommend.
I can tell I've lived my whole life in the sticks because I have never shopped anywhere that had the broccoli on ice 😭
was coming for this comment. i live in the bay and i have never ever shopped for broccoli and it was on ice 😭
right? feels like a rich person thing or something lmao
yeah this isnt a thing in the UK haha
@@elabee9681Nor in Berlin.
@@elabee9681 Not in (poor people) Australia either LOL here broccolini is sometimes on ice though
Love the margarita reference for the saltiness.
This is why I love Sohla so much - the mix of high brow and low brow cuisine and cooking techniques. She doesn’t care if some ingredient or cooking method is considered lesser, but shows you how to cook things to make them the most flavourful. She’s the best!
i love that sohla and ham both talked about how fun a salad spinner is!
Finally broccoli getting the recognition it deserves!
Truly, sincerely, LOVE what Sohla brings to every video!!!
Video is so good. Who agrees with me? 😚
I have a treasured photo of my grandma standing on her porch with a "gentle wash" laundry bag full of greens, swinging it over her head like a lasso to get the water out. Sohla beautifully reminded me of that with the towel-wrapped broccoli! 😁
omg, please post!!
My grandmother did the same thing
Sohla is just the best. Keep these coming forever
Sohla, I love the way you explain everything about food and ingredients. You dig deep to show us everything you know and I feel like I learn a lot watching your videos
Best of wishes for you 😊
She took down a bad food company (Bon Appetit) by being a self entitled little 🐀
Overall a net positive. But it shows she's willing to abuse others for her own advantage. YIKERS! If she could read she'd be really upset.
What a charming person Sohla is! Love love her videos!!!
I love thinking of Sohla as a kid, being very percice and persnickety about cheese squares on broccoli!
my mother is a broccoli hater but even she loves a similar raw broccoli salad her vegan friend makes - maple dijon dressing, broccoli, chickpeas, red onion, carrots, sunflower seeds, craisins, optional baby spinach . gotta try this version soon!
What’s the dressing recipe? I’m not a big mustard person, but maple Dijon sounds lovely …
Sohla's amazing! Her eggs episode should be required viewing for everyone who wants to cook eggs!
Sohla, you are such a delight!!! not only did i learn how to cut broccoli into amazing broccolini-like spears, but the become your own salad spinner bit had me cackling. amazing.
Sohla, you are my absolute favorite CZcamsr! Thank you for all your great teaching.
A wealth of knowledge in less than 30 minutes. Thank you, Sohla!
I just accidentally bought too much broccoli from Whole Foods, so this video is perfectly timed!
I love Sohla, she’s such a talented and knowledgeable chef that I still learned so much from this video even though I hate broccoli and will never like it…so glad she’s no longer doing all the heavy lifting for Babbish while he takes all the credit.
OMG, I'll say it again, I wish I would have known you as a kid. I would have been your best friend, I bet you were a great kid. Sleepovers would have been a great time. I never really appreciated broccoli before, and now I can't wait to try all of your recipes.
So love videos featuring Sohla doing the instruction!❤
I folded little squares with Kraft singles too!
I find listening to your instructions so calming. I never used to like broccoli but cooking it in these ways will elevate it. Thank you
I love ALL your videos! So fun to watch and listen to!
And you look great! ♡
Love Sohla! Fantastic teacher! She makes cooking so much fun while teaching you such great techniques. Many thanks 👏
more Sohla pleaseeeee
So much helpful advice and the reasoning behind it, thank you!
I always learn so much with Sohla
Sohla referencing my FAVEORITE movie! ugh i didn't think it was possible to love her more 😍
I add raw broccoli, raw brussels sprouts, raw kale, and raw cabbage to my everyday salads. No crunchy water (aka lettuce), which I discovered way too late was why I never liked salads. You all can have my lettuce. Those veggies in a salad based on raw cabbage are great! Thanks for sharing, Sohla!
Do you add watercress? Yummy and peppery.
Thank you for saying it about the oil to acid ratio for dressings. Every so often I seem to default to the 3:1 ratio because it's 'correct', and every time I end up with a mountain of dressing as I frantically add more of everything else to prevent a sad, oily dressing situation.
love these series! learning so many little details I don't know
Here's a comment - you are wonderful. And unforgettable in the Dan Levy brunch competition show. You MADE that show. Thanks for your excellent tutorials.
Love your videos.
So very well explained and very entertaining.
You will inspire a whole generation of young cooks and entertain us old seasoned one's. Thanks, great teaching style, great food.
“Broccoli… Wow.”
Love Sohla and this series!
I adore you!!! What a fun video!! Thanks for making me wanting to eat Broccoli again!
Gosh years and years ago I think maybe om her personal channel sohla went over how she cooks broccoli. Made me absolutely LOVE broccoli.
I love broccoli! Enjoyed this chef and the easy, fun cooking.
This video is great! Sohla cracks me up.
Sohla’s an awesome teacher! Great technique and humor 😊
Updating my shopping cart as i watch the video!! Sohla makes broccoli look so good!!
I loved everything about this episode 🥰
Love Sohla!! Excellent instruction! Absolutely agree on the ratio of acid to oil for a dressing! 3 to 1 is too much oil; I use 1 to 1 always.
I love Sohla. I'm not a new cook at all but I'll watch her videos anyway.
Roasted broccoli has been a game changer for me in upping my veggie consumption situation! Can't wait to try all of these.
Why am I just finding you now?! You’re amazing. Luv luv what you’re sharing with us all.
I just love Sohla! Great teaching and great personality! So cute!
I love this series so so much.
That last one lifted my heart recognizing a kindred ratio perfectionist. 🥰
I used to break down my cheese slices into squares, too. So important to get the proper cheese to veggie ratio. Sohla, you are a genius!
I believe I am completely smitten, Sohla. Never have I ever found anyone else who likes to "cube" their Kraft Singles. I thought I was alone.
Awesome insights that I’ve never heard before ❤❤❤❤
luv these , gonna fit these into the rotation
Wow. Thanks. This really helped.
I've never been a big fan of raw broccoli, but Sohla has never steered me wrong, so I resolved to try the salad at some point. Got the opportunity sooner than expected when my oven broke tonight and derailed my planned dinner! It was DELICIOUS, a huge hit with the whole family. Definitely going to be using the dressing on all manner of veg going forward too!
Great voice. Great delivery. Great information.
made it! really good. Thanks.
"if you don't have a salad spinner... YOU can become the salad spinner" 🥹 thank u sohla for believing in me
Broccoli is my thing -- just lightly steamed with butter, lemon, salt and pepper. A large bowl of it and I'm a happy camper. Doesn't even need any help. Cheese? Not necessary at all. Yum!
I’ve been addicted recently- I’ve literally been snacking on it for the past 3 weeeks- I dry fry it on a non stick pan till it’s a bit charred then stir fry them with teriyaki, ginger, garlic, vinegar and brown sugar- it’s addictive!
And honestly the stem is my favourite part!
Sohla, you're simply delightful.
3 amazing looking recipes that I will definitely try
What a charismatic presenter. Terrific resource.
We do not deserve Sohla, she is too pure for this world
Broccoli is my spouse's fave veggie, so this is PERFECT.
She's honestly the best
Excellent choice. My favorite vegetable. Schlage is a brilliant expositor.
Thank you for this, Sohla! I absolutely love broccoli, and I am particularly looking forward to making your sesame broccoli!
Love all of these recipes
i love the way you teach :) will try all of these... will try to do this without grains
1:07 I have never in my life seen broccoli on ice at the grocery store before. Guess thats explains why the stem is always so dang woody...
Great ideas for broccoli thank you
I made the sesame broccoli tonight.....YUM!
Sohla is amazing!!! So funny and sweet !!!
Broccoli is my favorite, so excited ❤ 🥦
With the towel or pillow case method of drying veggies, she's not kidding when she says you'll get water all over the place. Learned that the hard way 😅
I learned a lot here! I have made Sohla's quinoa and broccoli salad, and it's great. Time to pull out that recipe again, and the others look good, too! :)
Sohla living her best life twirling a towel full of broccoli spears.
great episode❤
Sohia you look amazing I love Broccoli now I have more ways of making broccoli
Great Video! Thanks!
Omg microwaved broccoli was my favorite snack as a kid too! Guess it's more common than we think. The cheese is a nice touch.
Shes an excellent instructor
Well this is great timing! I just picked up some broccoli crowns and was wondering how I wanted to prepare them
Sohla is the best!!
