My favourite song that always stood out for me. I grew up with this song and it helped me so much to go through the difficult times and still stay up above the water. It takes a courageous person and a sincere soul to write and sing this way. Thank you so much for sharing this live version and for the memories!

Though their later tour/studio drummer was skilled, he just never manages to capture the same piercing clarity of Berry's best drumming. Ugh, anything to hear him playing this live with them...
It's far from being comparable with Berry's performance on this song.
This song is off the charts. It has the painful clarity of good thought and poetry: "A world gone mad, I like it like that and I know it. ....ugly and sweet...that's what keeps me down.."..Let's not kid ourselves or blame any one else...THANK you R.E.M., and you for posting this monument of a song.

I was a huge rem fan as a teenager, saw them live in 95, Michaels shaved head! Mike's suits, but new adventures changed everything for me.
This was the last major song written by the great, great Bill Berry before he got the Hell out of Dodge!

this version sounds somewhat ramshackle and tired ..... which makes it better ... terrific

I love this song. I kinda wish the video had better audio and captured the background music in more depth. I'm not sure if it's a result of the video compression, or the original live recording, or a combination of the two. But oh well. There's always the album version :P

they never actually recorded this song in the studio. The version on Adventures in hifi was recorded at a soundcheck.
