Christmas Saves The Year is actually a pandemic song, first released in December 2020. Delta was hitting some regions hard, and for many people flying home for Christmas wasn't possible (or smart).
This claymation music video was made a year later (Dec 2021), and is much better than the original video. Both are dark, but this one is also fun - and filled with a bunch of little nuggets for fans.

They actually released this last year, so it's definitely influenced by the pandemic. Consider the travel and gathering restrictions that were in place at the time.
Also, regarding your Tim Burton reference... The two characters you were reacting to there were actually Tyler and Josh's individual logos, with Tyler's being the skeleton, and Josh's was the alien!

There is one more christmas song, but it's Tyler singing live in a christmas concert of some sorts in his home town (?). He sings "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel". Its awesome.

Tyler wrote this during the first year of covid quarantine, when most people couldn't be with their family. As for the skeletons and the alien decor- those represent Tyler (skeleton) and Josh (alien)
I agree with everyone. We have A TON of Twenty One Pilots you guys need to get on
they made this for christmas in 2020 when people hadn't seen their families for the entire year - so that's what sort of the desperation or negative undertone that sort of pops up in the lyrics - but it's really reaching for hope that christmas can come through and make everything better

I think we all felt differently about Christmas that year (2020 when the song was released). The gifts and other trappings of the holidays were less important. Many of us just wanted to be able to be with family, but for many people that wasn’t possible. This song helps me remember how fortunate we are now that we can be together again.
It was cool, twenty one pilots did a little contest recently where fans could enter to win a $500 flight card to fly home for Christmas. I didn’t enter since I wanted the prize(s) to go to people who really need it. But it goes to show that the sentiment behind this song is still meaningful to them.

A lot of other Trench songs follow the narrative of the trilogy like Neon Gravestones, Banditos and Leave the City (these are the only ones I can think of right now but there are more). Level of Concern is one of my favorite songs lately.
I have a tattoo for the song Neon Gravestones. It is an amazing song. The regular lyric version is good but I always suggest that people listen to the live BBC version of Neon Gravestones. It will give you all the feels.
I went to see them live for the trench tour (they are my favorite band) and honestly that was the best concert I have ever been too! They literally had a burning car as a prop on stage and they were so fun! Even with that many people it felt like a personal concert and I absolutely loved it!!!

Notice that it it said snow falls from grey sky ASHES FALL TO THE SEA..he put that in there because of all the Covid deaths that year and we were all told to be careful abt getting together for Christmas, people couldn’t fly even in my family we didn’t do thanksgiving 2020 but we said screw it we r doing Christmas but we almost didn’t! That’s why THIS SONG means SO MUCH! We can forever tell the future generations this was a Christmas tribute to 2020 and when we finally got to see our families !
