    Yes, this continues where Heavydirtysoul left off, but if you noticed Tyler said at the beginning “We’ve been here the whole time. You were asleep. Time to wake up.” There was over a year after they wrapped up the Blurryface era/touring when twenty one pilots went radio silent. Others refer to it as the hiatus, but they never called it that. But Tyler used that time to go deeper into developing a narrative that he began with Blurryface (which represents his insecurities and the darkness inside of him that he wants to fight against) as the landscape for Trench. It’s essentially a concept album that represents a journey between 2 places. The lore continues into their current album (SAI) and the Dema storyline will conclude in the next album.
    Tyler created an entire world (Dema) that is controlled by 9 Bishops so that he could dive deeper into exploring the ways they exert control over him. You will see Dema in the next video (Nico and the Niners). Nico is Blurryface, the Bishop that controls Tyler. They secretly released info online for the fans to find including letters from a character named Clancy that described Dema and the Bishops.
    This video is essentially the origin story of the black that you often see on his throat and hands. Tyler escaped Dema and is now in Trench, but Nico came after him. The black represents Blurryface/Nico’s control over Tyler. So in the bridge, Tyler is following him back to Dema, but he is telling Nico the only way he can completely control him would be to take away his ability to create music (grab him by the throat and lift him in the air / tie him down and break both his hands).
    Those on top of the cliff are the Banditos. Josh is the torchbearer, the leader of the Banditos. When Tyler sees the yellow flower on the ground it helps him remember that he isn’t alone. And that’s when he looks up and they throw the yellow petals down on him. That gives Tyler the courage to break away from Nico’s control and run away. Sometimes when a loved one is struggling with mental health issues all you can do is be there to provide support and encouragement. To remind them that they aren’t alone.
    Colors have a lot of symbolism within the TØP lore. The Blurryface era was red and black, representing control and darkness. The Trench era is yellow, which represents hope. If you look back at the Heavydirtysoul video, Josh’s hair was bright yellow 😼 It was the bridge to the new era. Yellow is a color that the Bishops can’t see (it’s an actual form of color blindness: tritanomaly makes it hard to tell the difference between yellow/red and tritanopia makes you unable to tell the difference between yellow/pink), so the Banditos use it as their rebel color - yellow tape on camouflage. It is a reminder that even when deep in struggles, you aren’t alone.
    The jumpsuit can represent anything that can help you when you are in need of help. Whether it is faith or family or friends. They even changed their logo from |-/ to ||-// representing the extra bar of protection.
    At the end, Tyler trips and falls, but Josh is still there on the cliff watching over him. He continues to be Tyler’s rock and anchor no matter what happens. Their friendship bond is an inspiration.

But if it's true, it's another way they are bound together, to remind them of the support they have in each other. Peace!

    I know you’re only now going into the trilogy, but there is an extension to the story with music videos from the following album continuing the Dema storyline - you need to follow the trilogy with the songs/videos ‘Saturday’ and ‘The Outside’. There is so much around this it’s ridiculous how much attention to detail and how clever they actually are. You’re right - that’s Blurryface on the horse, he’s a bishop from Dema. Also known as Nico. Difficult to know how much to tell you.

    There’s honestly no spoilers for how the Lore ends because they havent finished it yet! Tyler (the singer) has confirmed that the next album in production is the end of the Lore (The Dema Storyline) but after they will still continue to make music, just not pertaining to the story. Id love to directly talk to you guys to try to explain some of the story if nobody has yet. Its alot to take in, the music videos dont even show all of the story. Theres an in universe character named Clancy (it’s heavily debated whether tyler is clancy but nothing is confirmed and thats a whole different discussion) that releases letters online that add ATON of world building. Most of the time they are released before a new video and we see how the lore in the letters effects the music video. I know you guys had some questions about the colors. Red always is pertaining to blurryface/the bishops, The yellow = Hope. The bishops cant see the color yellow so thats why all the people on the ridge (the banditos) and tyler are cover in yellow tape. Thats also why all the flowers were yellow when they threw them down on tyler and Nico (the bishop in the video). All together theres 9 bishops all that have names and you’ll be introduced to them more and more. After the trench trilogy you guys watch the Scaled and icy vids in this order, Shy away, Choker, Saturday, and The Outside. They also incorporate a bunch of lore into their live shows so thats always cool to experience, especially the two tours that just passed. They might been the most lore filled tours ever yet

    Tyler does play the bass live on this song.
    All I'll say is yellow is opposite from red on the color wheel.
    Also I loved how ironic it was when you said how much you loved his voice, while his neck was blackening which represented his insecurities in his voice.

    • @sashabenoit1518
      @sashabenoit1518 Před 4 měsíci +1

      Green is actually the opposite of red on the color wheel. That's why makeup artists use green concealer to cover up redness because it cancels it out.
      But when it comes to colorblindness, there is a type where you can't tell the difference between red and yellow and another type that confuses yellow and pink.

    I am loving your reactions to twenty one pilots. Tyler & Josh are just ridiculously talented, totally dedicated to there art and always leave you just dying for what they'll bring next. Success doesn't appear to have changed either of them a jot. They just two genuinely nice lads and it shows in the utter devotion of their huge fan base (aka The Clique).
    I was introduced to them through my then teenage daughter. She went through some hellish stuff. Her mental health ended up scarily screwed to the point that we thought at one point we might lose her. Pilots lyrics are based in Tyler's own mental health struggles. One day my daughter was almost at the jumping off point and she heard Car Radio. She told me later that song saved her because it was like Tyler was singing her pain and she realised she wasn't the only one dealing with what she was. She got into them in a big way and through her, so did I.
    Roll forward a few years. For my 50th birthday, my girl took me to see them live. We went to a signing with them the morning of the show & I worried about it usually never being a good idea to meet your heroes. I had nothing to worry about. The music reps were rushing everyone through. No pics no this no that sort of thing. We got to their table and I knew my girl had lost her voice lol. I stepped forward, put my hand out to him and told him "from the bottom of my heart, thank you for saving my daughter's life'. Both boys got up, walked around the table and hugged her. They then ignored the reps trying to rush on the next group of people and stood chatting with her for 5 or 6 minutes! I stepped away and took some illicit pics of her with them. I was moved right to my very soul. Thought to myself this has been the best day. Then came the show and just WOW. In a sea of thousands of young fans, this 50 yr old sang danced and bounced for 2 & a half hours like I was a teenager again.
    Sorry for length of the comment but just wanted you to know the sort of lads they are.

    You guys caught a lot for sure. Yes blurryface is on the horse. He is a bishop from Dema. In the next song “Nico and the Niners” you learn his name. The Jumpsuit also plays a continuous roll throughout the trilogy, as well as the colours yellow. All the colours 21 pilots use throughout the blurryface album, trench, then scaled and icy are all significant. Red, yellow, black, and to some degree blue. They have a massive rabbit hole of lore for the whole narrative they built. It’s quite something.

      @@Odd1006 in a way, but they are also kinda one in the same. I would maybe say a better way to look at it is blurryface is who Tyler becomes when the bishops take him. Whenever he has the black paint on him. You could probably say the black paint itself is blurryface. Something that comes directly from the hands of the bishops and takes over. So maybe Nico isn’t exactly blurryface, but blurryface comes from Nico, so I suppose it could be up for interpretation for sure. I’m not an expert by any means. It’s just interesting to think about.

    This is one of the best songs to me, that bass gets me everty time.
    «I can't believe how much I hate pressure's of a new place roll my way» that means that he hates go out of his comfort zone and feeling insecure, he likes to be with something that he already know, I get that as an introvert person that I am.
    Jumpsuit is what he is wearing but also it's that thing that you put in your head to cover yourself when you don't want people to notice you or see you, you don't have any attention from anyone because you feel insecure in front of this issue, situation or people.
    «Spirits in my room, friend or foe, feelt it in my youth, feel it when I'm old» that means he sometimes confused himself because he can feel like Blurryface is on his side or actually is good for him because helps him to do his incredible art and music, but is a toxic thing like he said in Chlorine "sipping straight chlorine, let the vibe slide over me, this beat is a chemical" because also creating music as it helps him it's how much it damages him like he said in that song also "rebel red carnation, grows while I decay" when he is on his top and create the best music is when he is deeply in depression and his insecurities takes control of him.
    «But you'll have to grab my throat and lift me in the air»
    In this part I think he's talking about anxiety, just like that is how it feels, you can't breathe and always have thoughs about the world is gonna end or life at all. You can feel you without hope and see dark side in everything. Also that with his throat he sings, if you take that from him he feels hopeless, because even though it hurts him also is his way of letting go some pain.
    «I'll be right there but you have tie me down and then break both my hands» that is if you break his hands he is not able to write or express himself anymore because how he said in Ode to sleep "take this weapon forged in darkness, some see a pen I see harpoon" because is his way to fight against his demons and insecurities.
    And talking about the video yes, he comeback to that trance or just being depressed and being careless about himself and everything, just being like a living dead. Blurryface is the red and the black color which represents anger, hate, blood, passion, death and the evil.
    Then when Tyler look up he sees a lot of people throwing yellow petals to him, as you should know the yellow represents hope, happiness, togetherness and light. The people that is throwing the yellow petals are like his friends, family, wife and also us the fans who really cares about him and his health. That gives him strength to fight and not give up so easily, that when his voice change and also his facial expressions, he feel hate and anger but against those thoughts that make him feel hopeless, so he doesn't want to feel like that anymore and he starts running from that with the help and support of all the people that he loves.

  • @lisamathews7250
    @lisamathews7250 Před rokem +4

    Oh man, I want to help explain but it's so hard because there's just so much! Hopefully others will provide more info than I can. First, colors are super significant. Red/black is the Blurryface (album) era - you got the black on Tyler's neck and hands indicating his insecurities, and the bishops, including Blurryface aka Nico, all wear red. Trench (album) is yellow - representing creativity and hope. Note the bishops cannot see the color yellow, so when Tyler looks up to see the banditos throwing yellow petals, Blurryface doesn't see it. Now onto the location - this video is in Trench, which is an 'in-between', being in limbo between the darkness of Dema and making it out to the other side. Dema is a fictional city where the nine bishops rule and the next video Nico and the Niners starts with Tyler in Dema.
    There's so much more, but hopefully this helps with a few foundational pieces to start to understand what's going on.

    Loved, loved, loved your facial expressions during the build up and explosion in this one... "oh no, is it over?" 😁 💛
    Some things to know that will help with the questions and set the stage for what's to come: Yes, that's Blurryface, aka Nico, the main bishop. There are 9 bishops, each correlate to a different struggle/inner demon. They wear red. Yellow is a color they can't see, hence it's the color of the Banditos (us, the Clique), a symbol of hope. The Banditos float the yellow petals (like the confetti at their concerts) down to break Tyler out of his trance, where Nico has almost encapsulated him. Great catch on the black paint on his neck (vocal chords/singing) representing his insecurities. So yeah, TOP'S videos are full of NF balloons, they're everywhere, and very, very deliberate.
    And not sure if you know about Dema, but that's the fictional city this lore takes place around. So many common threads throughout their music that deal with internal struggles and the need to escape whatever your Dema is. And how cyclical it is, as you've seen in Car Radio. Something I always think back to is how Tyler once explained that for the Blurryface album he created the character of blurryface to help tell the story of these struggles, but then as he moved to Trench he built an entire world. The story became so much bigger. It Morphed with the fan base. Tyler has given credit to some of the fan theories for the directions this story has taken. They have such a deep love and respect for their fans. That's why it goes both ways.
    Anywho, hope that helps. 💙🤍💙

    @robint8855 Před rokem +3

    Dude I’m like buzzing with info to share 😭😭 So this is longgggggg but stick with it….
    Essentially, the album “Trench” (2018) is a follow up to the “Blurryface” album (2015) and it develops the character introduced in 2015 (blurryface) into a whole universe. The music video here is set in Trench which is a “world in between two places”. It sits outside of Dema - a city that is dull, grey and ordered that, almost like a prison, the residents can’t leave, and is run by a religion called vialism, one represented by harsh, artificial neon lights and that glorifies suicide. Dema is run by 9 Bishops (the hooded figure on the horse is one of the bishops - he’s called Nico, who also drove the car in Heavydirtysoul). As a unit, the bishops together represent Blurryface - Tyler’s insecurities - but individually they breakdown those insecurities into more specific facets (kinda like the breaking down of the 7 sins).
    The music video represents Tyler attempting to escape Dema - he’s gotten out beyond the walls and into Trench, a place he’s been prevented from knowing anything about due to being trapped in Dema his whole life. Tyler has been able to break out with the help of the Banditos - the figures on the cliff. They wear yellow because the Bishops can’t see yellow. It’s the colour of hope and opposite on the colour wheel to red (the colour that represents Blurryface). So by wearing yellow tape and being showered in yellow petals by the banditos, Tyler is able to make a break for it.
    However, in the end, Tyler ends up getting captured by the Bishop and taken back to Dema again…
    It represents a viscous cycle with mental health that, even when you work hard to escape it, you can often find yourself dragged back by your insecurities and doubtful thoughts. Tyler describes Dema as, although gloomy and lifeless, almost calming because it’s familiar and structured. Just as the dark places in our mind can be. We can find comfort in our depression. Whereas Trench is scary, exposed, difficult to navigate and you often don’t know where you’re going. That’s scary and daunting, but at the end of the day, it’s better than being in Dema. And even if you don’t know which way you’re going, at least you’re out and going somewhere. And you have a support system around you.

    So the biggest thing about understanding what's happening here is a website they secretly posted. I'd recommend checking out their Wiki for more info on that. Basic rundown- that guy on the horse is a Bishop, one of 9 that each controls a sector of a city called Dema. Each one correlates to a circle on the Blurryface album cover. Dema is a representation of the mind state of depression, while Trench (which lies beyond the city) represents the struggle of escaping that state. Dema's Bishops mandated a semi-religion/law known as Vialism, a practice which encourages the residents to take their own lives. The city has a soothing effect due to it's rigid structure and regiment, everything there is predicable and every day is the same. In contrast to this, Trench is wild, overgrown and dangerous, with rough terrain and unstable footing. Dema (to me) reminds me of the strange comfort you get when you sink into your depression, while Trench reminds me of the fear of misstepping and getting captured and dragged back. What Tyler had experienced in the video with Nico was called "Smearing," which is sort of a sedation and forced submission to a Bishop. Those people on the cliffs above are called Banditos, the sort of rebel alliance to the Dema's empire. The petals that they were throwing down are yellow, which for some reason the bishops can't see. This is also why they have yellow tape on their outfits and why Tyler sticks to the middle of the road once he leaves the car behind. I'll leave a link to the Wiki at the bottom of this comment so y'all can read up on it, however I'd prefer if you waited til after you've filmed the whole trilogy! Thanks for reading, didn't intend to leave a novel in the comments lmao

    Dema=a time of seclusion to deal with those emotions
    Black=Represents how they cope with these emotions, (throat for speaking the words/hands for writing the words)
    A car, A torch, A death represents all of these things and the motive for producing these. A story about their presence being life to the fans and after the show what the fans go through. That song is key to understanding all of these symbols. The lore is endless and interpreted differently by everybody, that's why it can be confusing.
