KH2 Dearly Beloved is like gently being woken up by a shaded sunrise on the weekend after it stormed all night.
I can just imagine waking up in Roxas's room...
or like loosing your home world and everything you love (one of those things being mini sepheroth) only to find out you can save them. its great because it does a great job of showing how dire the situation is, but there is hope. that's what I love about this song. If your listening in a time of loss it can give hope and if you are living in a time of great hope, it can remind you of the loss it took to get there.

@@boyscout244 i was 10 when i played the first Kingdom hearts on my PlayStation 2, and i couldn't help but to sit and listen in aw and wonder for hours as the pleasant sound of the piano with a cacophony of waves crashing against the shore captivated me completely. And it still does
I picked up Chain of memories as my first KH game and i never looked back from there, and when i played KH3 for the first time, it was a whole feeling of excitement i hadn't felt in months , it was worth pre-ordering it.

There's just something magical about Dearly Beloved that I haven't heard or seen replicated in any other game let alone franchise. This one score that's been changed a little for each game to suit its own tale but show that it's only one small piece in a bigger whole, how it by itself can be played and anyone nearby that's fallen in love with the series or have at least played some of the games with be able to recognize what game series it's from. The term 'perfect' is often tossed around so easily to describe things but Dearly Beloved is one of the few things that warrants the use of it.
Dearly Beloved is perfectly imperfect. Every version shows the piece itself isn't the be all end all by itself but with some small changes here or there, it can win over every heart whether it become a favorite due to someone's favorite game, memories, connections, or melody.

I think it's very telling that *every game in the series, no exceptions* opens with Dearly Beloved and the title screen. They knew Yoko had struck gold with that theme, it perfectly conveys the tone and feel of nostalgia and melancholy that the series aims for, and it's an immediate hook that subconsciously tells you there's something special about this soon-to-begin journey. I really can't picture in my head a better way to create a first impression on the player, to make them wonder what's in store for them, and to fondly look back on after it's over, which is why it's also genius that the games also end with Dearly Beloved reprise.
The KH2 reprise is one that breaks my heart somehow, every time I hear it. There was something hauntingly beautiful about finishing KH2 at 1 am on my crummy old TV back in 2009. The ending screen just being that, a picture with the words "The End" on it. No battle logs for how I did, not even the option to save my game. And this song haunting me as I tried to sleep that night. I cried, long and hard. I'm not even sure why. KH2 didn't exactly have a sad ending, if only Roxas and Namine were left to the void. Maybe there was something else going on in my life at the time, and I heard this song while it was happening. I'm not sure. I can't remember. But it's almost comforting that I can't remember. This song is just an enigma in my memory. I can remember sitting on the couch with the blanket clutched in my hands and crying to myself. But any of the other days, before or after then? It's left me.
I too feel and felt the same exact way. It’s always been hauntingly reminiscing even when the first time I heard it. As if I’ve heard it before, from a long time ago or past life. Some, how someway. I think being in 9th grade that summer made me realize I was growing up and I couldn’t hold on to these times forever, I had to grow up.
KH1/3 reprise is worse, trust me. Sounds like an almost broken music box.
The fact that Kingdom Hearts could've ended at 2 and it still would've been a fantastic game series is probably the reason why i think that KH2 Reprise is the most heartbreaking out of them all, because Sora, Riku and Kairi were reunited once again and the world was at peace.
@@Kaies109 naw KH2 did have many plot holes even when the three were reunited. Some things were never explained that were explained in other games. Its just that instead of explaining or closing those holes in other games they decided to open up other ones and so the lore became a mess.

Man i remember years ago when i was a kid and my mom died, i moved to my aunt and it was the first time i saw the commercial on tv for KH2. There was only one thing i wanted and it was this game. I probably spend months on this game before i got to play KH 1 xD i was obsessed with Kingdom Hearts, building a keyblade with lego, playing all the games and crying because of 385 days end xD mostly good times as a kid .. Life has been busy now. I think we sometimes need to release roxas out of our heart and relive the last summer. Before we became who we are now.

"Dearly Beloved" makes my eyes well up. Every single arrangement of this piece is so uniquely beautiful that I can call it nothing short of a masterpiece.
Thank you Yoko Shimomura for the iconic music, and thank you Kimpchuu for putting them all together.
Can we acknowledge that KH1 gives you a musical plot twist by withholding the second half of Dearly Beloved from the title screen? After you beat the final boss, you hear the second half kick in, and it sounds simultaneously highly emotional and yet... somehow familiar. Then, it picks up, and as you hear the part of Dearly Beloved you recognize, you *feel* it. It's genius.

How KH1 almost sounds like it's underwater with reprised having a more shore theme using the music box.
How Chains has a more pronounced piano that is the used throught the rest of the versions
2 starts to incorporate more string instruments building into a harmonic sound
365 uses a more wind instruments than the rest showing how it's not as focused more wild confused with subtle tones of kingdom hearts 1.
RE Coded is more up beat happy showing a shift in tides towards a better future.
BBS sounds more alone than any of the rest of the series and you feel that with the instruments coming and leaving almost whenver they feel like it.
DDD has almost like a washed undertone at first leading to a more lucid beat like sheap jumping over a fence.
Chi has this completely different beat to it as it differese from the rest of the series with Back Cover going back showing it tying itself back to the series yet still differing in it's sorrow.
3 is just different returning home to the shore almost like when you see your home in the distance so you just start going on a mad sprint.

KH3 Dearly Beloved is like waking up in the middle of spring after getting a full 8 hours of sleep and having birds fly away happily as you walk out the door to get a fresh whiff of the ocean breeze.

In college rn and just recently got into the series. I haven’t gotten so into a series in years, and hearing this music and seeing the main menu for the games makes me emotional. This franchise makes me feel like a kid again and it makes me so happy
I'm in the exact same boat as you. There's something about Kingdom Hearts that deeply connects with both my inner child and my present adult self. This song in particular has become something really special to me, because... I don't know why, but it reminds me of all the people I care about. My "dearly beloved".
Hey guys! Fellow college student who's gotten into KH as an adult! I feel like living proof that this series isn't necessarily only ruled by nostalgia- it's genuinely pretty good! I love the cheese, and the character writing and music can be downright compelling!
As someone who has never played any Kingdom Hearts games, I love this. This is beautiful, and I am seriously considering getting into the series now. If this music can make me feel the way it does now, I can't even imagine what it will do to me if I'm properly emotionally invested in the story of these games.

I highly recommend you give the series a shot. It can get pretty complicated at times, and it's a long ride... but it's so worth it.

This was my childhood. Simple and Clean. I remember first getting KH, not knowing what I was going to delve into. 15+ years later, and I haven't cried like I did when starting and finishing KH3. Onward!
I cried so hard when Xion showed back up man. She had been a favorite character since Days and she deserved to be remembered so much.

It's then I understood that this was possibly the last of our time together. Sobs from us creeped out. Still, we laughed, "I get it now. Even so, I don't care because this isn't the end. Rather the start of a long journey which has yet to come, and we're going to go to places even more unimaginable. So don't call this a goodbye, rather a see you next time where the start of our new adventures await us." with a smile ever so calm and knowing graces my face, as we both fade way to white once again. Personally 358/2 day and recoded are my favorite dearly beloveds because they were the only games I was able to play for the longest time. I remember I would used to just sit on the title screen and just listen to it over and over again. Every single version still hits me right in the feels though.
Same here I got to play just the recoded because I did not have enough money for a play station and now that kh3 is in xbox I cant even play it because my cousin has the xbox and we are in quarantine

Yeah same, it was the first one i played, and well the only one i got to play as a kid, its a really special game.
I'll never forget the Dream Drop Distance version, as it was the game that brought me to the series. It was my first Kingdom Hearts game and I had no idea what the series was, I just thought it was some other game. I'm so glad I actually took the time to look into it more because the series is amazing! Only thing missing is my boi Oswald.

It’s amazing how you can feel happiness, sadness, hope, regret, nostalgia, relief and way more all at the same time just by listening to Dearly Beloved…
I think that’s why I cry every time I listen to it.
Even the first time I heard Dearly Beloved I cried so much because it felt like something I’ve heard before but couldn’t remember.
But my heart did, *because Dearly Beloved is the perfect definition of what a heart is.*
It doesn’t matter if you start playing Kingdom Hearts today or 20 years ago… or even if you’ve never played before… this will somehow feel nostalgic no matter what.
That’s why this is a masterpiece…
Capture the essence of a heart in its whole is no easy task if we consider that most of the times we don’t know what we feel ourselves, or how to describe that feeling.
So how can a piece do that without lyrics?
And how can exist so many distinct versions of the same piece?
All of them focus in one thing more to adapt to their own game and its tale without losing the main idea. That’s simply genius.
And if you ask KH fans what’s their favorite version most of them will have different answers because all of them are so good that it is too subjective and the connection is made by the melody, memories or nostalgia for the first game you’ve played…
For me it is KH 3D or 358/2 Days version.
The work to set up the visual graphics for each part of the franchise is such a great cherry on top.

Man In my Sincere Opinion THIS SONG is why I Stand by Kingdom Hearts no matter what the story leads no matter how convoluted when it has such a wonderful Overture that is Dearly Beloved! The Power of the Piano I tell ya!

You know, there's more to Kingdom Hearts than nostalgia. I've first played KH at 27, I didn't have consoles growing up and I bought my PS4 with my own money and saw a pretty sick deal on KH3 Pre-order - pay a bit more and get a ton of games. I've heard people praising and bashing KH before, but I decided to give it a try.
A lot of the stuff in the games is definitely childish, especially the first one. A lot of it is naive or very "jRPG". A lot of it is silly and taking some of the things from it too serious may be very cringy. But the gameplay is still pretty fun, and if you take the story for what it is - a mix of a jRPG with Disney film level of childish naivety, then you can enjoy the story as well. With a silly premise and silly characters, it manages to still convey and make you feel some real emotions. It gets really convoluted and ridiculous if you try and explain to a stranger what's the deal with Roxas and Xion, but their fates still made you feel sad. It's similarly convoluted and ridiculous explaining what Lingering Will is, but it was pretty hype when it showed up in KH3.
It's a jRPG fairy tale, like Disney movies. If you take any fairy tale very seriously and criticize it as such you can see numerous flaws in all of them. But if you keep in mind that's its a fairy tale, then you can have some good times with it.
I agree 100% with you. Kingdom Hearts is a fairy tale, which took a LOT of risk in its process of fusing Disney and Square-Enix. In my opinion it is one of the most amazing fairy tales ever done. What people need to do in these days is to accept the concept of story that the creator did for it, and not what people wanted it to be, like in the past. Kingdom Hearts was, is and always will be amazing.
You're absolutely correct. I think it's not just about nostalgia; these kinds of stories simply hit different when you're younger. I played KH1 and 2 in 2005, when I was 12. Along with the Final Fantasy games (6 through 10 specifically), I thought they were the best games ever. And the feeling of "growing" alongside the games as the story developed more and the characters got more fleshed out, I think when you start looking back on that: that's the nostalgia part. KH3 was a big nostalgia trip and more, since pretty much all of the characters got some screen time. But even back with the first few games, they were already something special honestly.
And aside from that I think, even though the story is convoluted and I agree it's actually a lot of "hocus pocus fairy tale magic", it's brought in a way that makes you go through the entire emotional spectrum. And honestly, to me, that's the real magic of the series. Even if sometimes I don't like the Disney side, or the convoluted story and plot holes, even if I don't like some of the mechanics or even parts of the story, it's still an amazing work of art in my opinion.
Beauty in music is everywhere and those who find it can find peace in that beauty. Nothing is more important than the feelings you feel when remembering something you hold so dear in your heart and accepting that it is now just a memory. Dearly beloved ties my heart to this impactful franchise of goofy Disney characters running around with a cast of characters that shaped me into the person I am today, and when it is over I will lie in wait and fondly remember my life with through this song.
Dearly beloved is easily one of the most well done songs I've ever heard. Its soothing, relaxing, and it's great. Since KH was one of the first videogames I've ever played, I'm very happy to be a KH fan. Cant wait to hear KH4's Dearly Beloved variant.
Honestly, I'm so happy I pick this game when I was a teen because who doesn't want to fight along side Donald and Goofy while Mickey is your king. Plus you get to revisit all your favourite Disney characters along with their world and fight along side them too. This game will definitely stand the test of time like Final Fantasy 7.

1. KH2 (It's hard to explain, but this one takes me to another world. Simple yet so effective. This one's the GOAT.)
2. KH3 (The most dynamic and powerful one. Has that epic, cinematic feel.)

Dearly Beloved: that one soundtrack that is unbearably beautiful, but melancholy in a way that words fail to describe. Listening to it makes me feel like saying goodbye to this life and going on to the next adventure. KH II DB will always hold a special place within me. Days and BBS have two of the most emotional versions for me, but that KH2 track man, right in the nostalgia
It always gets me emotional the reprise version at the end of every game. This is the franchise that molded my teenage years and now finally after five years of discovering it I have the chance to play the main games.

The birth by sleep one ist my favorite - maybe it's because BBS was my first KH Experience
It's strange. I knew almost nothing about Kingdom Hearts until Sora was announced for Smash. But ever since then, I've been enamoured by Dearly Beloved right as I heard it for the first time. Thank you for this compilation! :D

As always, KH2's Dearly Beloved just hits differently.
Dearly beloved reminds me of the comfort that small acts of love gives us. Simple things, that might not seem significant to most people, but to that one person who desperately needs compassion and peace it's more meaningful than anything
I just had a thought:
Each title screen for Kingdom Hearts has Sora by the shore or in the water (I remember a comment saying that he goes further out into the water with each title).
Can you imagine - somewhere down the long line of Kingdom Hearts games - Sora running to the shore with everyone waiting for him? If that ever becomes a thing, I might cry.
358, BBS (link to the future), and KH3 will always be there in my heart.

KH1: you are stepping out of your familiar and into a new world that you've never seen before.
CoM: very similar to what came before, but something isn't quite right and you can't remember what is different.
KH2: you have grown and changed as a person, but you never forget from whence you came.
358/2: you are living in a golden age, but there is this looming sense of dread. Like everything is going to fall apart soon.
coded: an interesting take on what came before, even if it doesn't amount to much.
BbS: a lullaby, as if this was all a dream that you can't wake up from.
DDD: this are finally put in motion and a sense of triumph is building.
X: you know the truth and have to watch the people you care about happily live what little time they have left.
UX: the people that happily live what little time they have left.
KH3: everything has built up to this moment and you take some time to reminisce on your journey.
MoM: the weight you've carried since the beginning has finally been lifted. Now it's time to have some fun.

One version that always seems to get overlooked is featured in 'Rise of the Union'. Hands down my favourite rendition of 'Dearly Beloved'.

the first one will always make me tear up bc it makes me remember the way I first found kh and thus fell in to the spiral . brings me back to simpler times I cry

Dearly Beloved and Song of the Ancients from the Nier games are one of the few songs that both make me cry and feel like good reprises.
Honestly, i gave up in KH's history and character development a while ago, but i still want this franchise to keep on just to continue listening to new masterpieces game after game
I will forever remember getting KH1...it was the most enchanting intro I had heard at the time.
although I never really experienced it myself I can always feel how others have felt playing this game just through the ost of the game

It's crazy to see how different the same song can be! I absolutely love all of these renditions!
KH - Riku drowns, Sora falls out of the sky and lands on Sora, knocking Sora into the sea.
KHCOM - Sora thinks he was in a ton of Disney movies and dies because of it. Riku locks himself in a door to be with Mickey (Riku is Mickey's biggest fan) and Kairi is sent to a desert where she shall die of thirst.
KH358/2 - Roxas needed a reminder of who's in the Organization
KH2 - Kairi remembers that things happened. She misses Sora so much that her long lost sister notices and locks Sora in a flower bud to pay the ultimate price. She whispers to him before he is sent to eternal sleep: "Thank Naminè" AKA the magic words that gave birth to Roxas
KHBBS - Earth, Wind, and Water are warriors that fight the old man army. Earth rejects Water and drowns in darkness, Wind is asleep and dreams of Hercules and Stitch. Water is forever alone. R.I.P Water.
KHR:C - Sora is locked in a digital book of memories. Also has some decent music and glitches in there, he should be fine.
KH3D - Kingdom Hearts: The Musical. Featuring Mickey the Wizard/Swordsman
KH0.2 - and now, a sneak peek at Water's musical memories.
KHBC - *Among Us*
KHUX - War crimes are committed just for an Among Us game. Also time travel because time travel is fun, right?
KHUXDR - Young Xehanort's misadventures.
KH3(2.9) - Wind looks like Roxas (or does Roxas look like Wind?) and Wind is sleeping, Earth is evil and also sleeping, and Water is playing the world's longest game of hide and seek... and is also probably asleep. Sora remembers his adventures through Disney World and Disney World 2: Button Mashing Electric Boogaloo. Roxas decides to be like Wind and goes to sleep inside Sora, who almost forgot he almost dies taking an exam. Riku passed his, so good job for him. His reward is to go on another adventure with his idol, Kairi goes to do some.... thing, and Sora goes off to gain some power. Also, people playing chess.
KH3 - Chess is bad.
KH3 Re•Mind - More time travel because is fun.... Right? Also Nomura is kinda mad because Square Enix didn't let them make FF Versus 13.
KH Melody of Memory - Kairi finally have an important roll in the series and still is useless. Best version of Dearly Beloved tho.
Things to know: Hearts = souls, Roxas likes ice cream, Sora's mom is STILL waiting for him to come to dinner, and Earth isn't actually Earth, Wind is the oldest besides he is 12 years old.
Absolutely heartbreaking that this is already outdated by the ending of Ux

Thank you for this! Popped up on my recommended. Dearly Beloved is just one of those songs that will make me cry every time I hear it, no matter how many times I hear it.
I really love the Reprise version of the KH1 version. We beat the first game not to long ago, and to be honest, I didn’t think I’d ever get past KH1. It also feels weird cause I knew the first game so well (also considering how I was nearly done with the game but my console broke so we had to redo it), and then I stepped into foreign land with the rest of the games.
The reprise version is really beautiful. The credits did make me sad, especially since I beat my favorite game. I’m glad I was able to find it again
I like how 358/2 Days switches out the piano the flute that plays during Roxas’ theme

@@Ayumuobsessed Smash is not complete, it is missing characters that could not enter such as Ryu Hayabusa or Crash also they lack game modes such as target practice, all stars, boss mode among others ... but that does not mean that the game is very good
This collection is amazing! Dearly Beloved is my fav piece of video game music ever. I've got a really soft spot for the [chi] version. It really feels like the start of an adventure.
