I'm so looking forward to a 1290 SM T. The spy photos make it look like the perfect bike for me. Holding out until 2016 before I pick up a street bike. Hopefully it will be another KTM.
I really love KTM and as far as electronics go I trust no one more then I trust them, however, what does the 1290 offer over the 1190 Adventure R (Which I adore)? More horsepower? If I cared about going fast I would go for Ducati, off road? I saw 1190s pass the 1290s easily on trails. Touring? Why wouldn't I just buy a touring bike if I wanted a bike for that? I only managed to get a ride on the 1190 so far but I did ride with others that had the 1290 and I just don't understand what would make me take it over the 1190... If someone has an answer I'd be glad to hear it.
The two bikes area made for different reasons. I have read one review that states the 1190R is more of a dirt bike that can ride on the street. If you want to enter a moto rally race, this would be the bike of the two to choose. The 1290SA is more of a road bike that can also go off-road. More comfortable, good for the long haul and has power to give it a more sporty feel on road.
cool bike. i guess the GS still takes the cake in travelling but if you want to have something a bit more sporty this would be awesome. would love to test this beast to convince me
+Scourdej Unless you are older then 50 or don't care about excitement. Skip the BMW and go for the KTM. It has everything the GS has, but then it also has the power and better suspension. (and a lower price)

I did the same as GH said above. Since I didn’t have to spend cash on panniers or toys, I bought the bike as advertised last year brand new (2017 model), at $6k below MSRP and I spent about $800 to paint it with the KTM 990 Dakar blue colors from the 90’s, which I love.
i rode it for a couple of days, and i have to say, all these systems are amazing and work perfectly. you barely notice them actually. power is immense, air protection is incredible and the cornering lights, which i thought were just gimmicks for marketing, do an excelent job illuminating the corners on dark twisty roads
I own it ... delivered advertised. I had issues early with QA and KTM responded. Issues ... seat is not comfy over long hauls, bags could be more solid and more space could be between bike and side bags for more air pass through.
One of the best of 21 motorcycle's that I have ever owned, absolutely awesome outstanding power and handling 👍😎

I must have missed the 'Adventure' part of the video...looks like a fine sport-touring bike though.
I own it ... great off road with the right tires. Press a button to adjust to off road riding.

Meh, as far as colors go just have it painted (Or wrapped if you're into that) by yourself, you'll get a much more unique bike like that anyways.
I bought it and removed the white plastic pieces I wanted to paint and painted it black.
