Differences between a fake eBay Lacoste polo and a genuine Lacoste Polo

  • Before you comment that the fake is just as good, please watch this video which demonstrates what garbage the fakes really are: • No! Fake Lacoste is no...
    I bought two Lacoste polos, one real and one fake to demonstrate the difference between the two. I should have mentioned in the video that the genuine shirt was in fact made in Peru. I have other genuine shirts that were made in El Salvador.
    Lacoste's parent company is Maus Frères SA, which has production facilities around the world and a 90% ownership of textile company Devanlay, the clothing maker and distributor for Lacoste.

    Good video! To me it doesn't matter one bit if the item is fake as long as it looks genuine and washes well. Obviously I wouldn't be expecting a genuine item for €15, neither a fake for €50! I like how the polo shirts look but would never be prepared to pay such a premium for a real one. I recently purchased some fake ones from a market in Vietnam and they look great and wash beautifully, which surprised me. Cost around €10 per piece.

    I am an American, living in Peru for over 10-years now. The district in Lima (Gamara), which is huge (I mean totally HUGE) manufactures/sells clothing, which is the super-high quality (Peru cotton is better than anything from any other country). I am not trying to sell anything here. I am just saying - sometimes super cheap "rip-off" stuff is great (better than the real stuff, especially, if you think about the price difference). I can go to Gamara, and buy a "Lacoste" polo shirt, for myself, for less than US$8. And --- as I said, the cotton in Peru is the best and the sewing is top quality/very professional.

    • @jeshu8372
      @jeshu8372 Před 2 lety +1

      The problem with gamarra it is than desing of clothes is horrible and details looks like gansters or something like that. And are differents levels of cotton, a good cotton means x2 or x3 the price and even with that the desing and details are poor

    • @stephen5009
      @stephen5009 Před 2 lety +2

      @@jeshu8372 Yes, you are correct; however, with experience, and spending a lot of time in Gamara, you can find the right stands to go to and get their phone numbers, so in the future, you can get the right stuff at a good price.

    Presa la mia Lacoste in negozio. Sono fiero di averla provata li, di essermi fatto consigliare dalla commessa, di averla comprata li. Sono sicuro che il prodotto è originale. Ma soprattutto, un negozio fisico ha molti costi, che partono dalla bolletta della luce e arrivano allo stipendio della commessa che mi ha consigliato e dato assistenza: sono contento di aver dato i miei soldi a loro. Ho la certezza di aver preso il modello e la taglia perfetti per me.

    I have a Lacoste polo I bought in Saudi Arabia in January 2023 in a well-known store there similar to TJ MAXX or Marshalls with multiple locations. I never doubted it was fake until I was in the Lacoste store in NYC last week and I wanted another one. In Saudi Arabia, a XXL was a size 9 and everywhere else it's a 7. I didn't have that in my general knowledge bank at the time. My "fake" hits every criteria of being genuine, except the size discrepancy...and no tag saying Made in Peru (or a made in anywhere tag) even the buttons are Mother of Pearl and sewn in correctly as well as the tag sewn in correctly, the Crocodile is perfect! Well, I was duped, but it's a really good fake and currently my favorite Lacoste, unfortunately. BTW it was in USD $39 but since it was a Marshalls/TJ Maxx, type of store I expected it to be a lower price.

    There are "genuine" Lacoste Polos sold in USA looking funny too. I guess someone is using a gap but actually there is a lot of back stock circulating too so you cant compare brand new polos from L store to some dicounter stuff thats 15 years old and made for outside of europe, Lacoste is working with a lot of factories other than Peru just to bring the brand to countries where people are not really digging the brand yet. there is a lot of genuine stuff looking fake. Once the contract was done those factories keep reproducing own logos because the logos are delivered by Lacoste headquarters to sew on. the official stitchery logos are all made in Peru or France.

    Would be interested in quality of construction especially finishing of seams, used of interfacing, colorfastness, abrasion resistance, shrinkage. Some better shirts provide replacement buttons. Hemming at the bottom and finishing of the sleeves. Reinforcement in key spots like where collar attaches, shoulder, quality of button sewing. In other words it's conceivable that a fake is well constructed and a brand is poorly made. Not all 100% cotton is created equal. Yarn fiber quality varies for example. Polos of similar qualities may have different weave structures. You might ask about sources and factory conditions.
