I think one of the reasons this scene stands out to me so much is because it shows just how deep their love for one another runs. They don’t just sleep together, they don’t just mess around, they L O V E each other. They hold each other, when they’re tired or crying, they both want to be together so badly but ennis is terrified of it and hates himself for being scared. But this scene… it makes me wish they could’ve stayed on Brokeback forever, just like this. Jack said it himself, Brokeback’ got em good. Now it’s got me too.
Also this is the only scene that Ennis initially showed his affection and feelings to Jack which we all know he's not the kind of a person to do so. With Jack, he's himself. He showed who he really is when he was with Jack. 😭 Excuse my English by the way coz it's not my first language. 😅

Irina is referencing this hurt expression watching Ennis drive away. It is in fact the last time they saw each other, you can tell by Jack's facial hair.

That moment at 1:10 when it shows Jack’s bitter and resentful face. He’s far from the innocent, naive young man full of hope that he was with he was first with Ennis. He’s truly broken there and he knows things will never be the same. The worst part is knowing that this was the last time they saw each other before Jack’s death. So much left unsaid.
The older I get, the more devastating this scene becomes for two reasons. The first is how truly intimate Ennis and Jack are in this instance. For a brief moment, there is no world that will judge or hurt them for being them and they truly know what it means to love. The second is because this memory follows an especially brutal fight between them and what their insecurities and fear coupled with the cruelty of reality have forced them to understand about themselves and their relationship and the crushing knowledge for repeat watchers knowing this is the last time Ennis will ever see Jack. Plus the heartwrenching transition from young Jack and his contentment to him older and bitter about the hand he's been dealt.
Oh man. How good does Jack look there in that chunky green jacket and the way he watches Ennis ride away. This scene gets me everytime. The times Iv clicked back and rewatched it xx

I’m a sucker for romance dramas and have read and watched so many of them, but none of those couples have managed to deliver with words what these two actors managed through body language. Ennis holding Jack gently yet firmly like he doesn’t want to let go, humming a song under the breath, and Jack in turn resting his chin on his lover’s forearm and allowing himself to be swayed gently. It’s crazy how such a simple physical interaction between these two men is so meaningful and powerful. My heart is full and i feel like crying for days.
It's interesting reading other people's thoughts on this scene. When I watch it, I see Jack is still waiting after all this time for Ennis to come back, but at the same time he looks as though he is growing tired of the wait, he also looks angry that he is still waiting ! Brilliant film though and such a sad ending.
It's so sad that Ennis didnt have the courage to be loved and happy. I understand that he just didnt want to be killed, and obviously that's exactly what happened to Jack. But it just makes me incredibly sad.
I love this movie, and I can't stop watching scenes from this. The kiss scene, or the sex scene, or the flashback scene are very known and famous, and the actors are pretty good at those. But THIS scene... the love, the anger, the feeling of failure, the jalousy, the regrets they exspress in this scene... and they were only 25 years old, two boys acting two older men with tough lifes lived hiding a powerful forbidden love. I don't remember the Oscar nomination in 2005, but I think they deserve to win it just for this scene.
The scene got so emotional and attached that I would still cry my eyes out after 100 times of rewatch. Jack also said in the novel this is the memory he missed the most and the fact that they truely loves each other so much that they didn't need sex but just a hug to express that.
I love how the camera pans out briefly during their hug. It shows how they blend so naturally into the landscape. Also, Jake nailed that expression of someone nearing 40, grappling with life choices… absolutely chilling.
This is one the best drama movie in any gender. And my opinion is the best lgbt movie of all time. There is no anything like this out there, this movie is really hit hard to my heart. Love ennis and jack.❤
I don't know. This movie arranged a flashback straighted to my heart, also really upgraded the tragic atmosphere of the movie. … I don't know how to say it. I may be moved by Jack's persistent love for Ennis in the past 20 years, or an introverted soul like Ennis, suffering from self and social moral constraints, can be liberated by Jack, so, I think this film takes advantage of this wonderful flashback part, which is a scene where Ennis and Jack both feel the fetters between them, and forms two strong contrasts with the pain Ennis and Jack have felt in the past 20 years.
I love how this scene shows to me that you can pinpoint the single moment you fell in love. I have that moment with my husband where I knew this was different. *sigh* I end the movie right here and pretend he turned right around and they eloped 😂

Such a special scene and it's brilliant how it's placed by the ending because it's when you finally realize why Jack allows himself to be mistreated by Ennis all along.
