Thank you for watching the video, It means a lot to me .

The ending is beautifully sad. The old sheriff is a shell of his younger self, but even a man 20 years older than his father at passing yerns for a time when he felt secure by somebody older and wiser to guide him through the cold.
There is more to say. But that's the point.❤️
The point of the movie is that somebody has to pick up the torch and carry the fire when things get desperate and hopeless. If not, your society, country, civilization will collapse.
Nam is short for Vietnam. They are Vietnam conflict veterans. And Llewelyn tells the hotel to notify him of “any swingin dick”. It’s a term I’ve mostly heard from older Military men. Just means ‘man’.
Yes women's D don't swing as much.
Yeah, not sure why the subtitles say “any swinging dude.” He clearly says “any swinging dick.”
@@ClaytonMacleod Probably the word is censored.
And also the 🍆 swings when most of us Walk
@@Shawn-mo6dh I'm a briefs man so I don't get much swinging but maybe he knew that he was wearing boxers or commando...
My theory about the money is that the Mexican cartel got to it. They're the ones that killed Lewellen in the hotel and were speeding away when the sheriff pulled up.
Some background: the movie is set in 1980 in Texas.
The airgun actually fires a retracting pin. These are used to kill cattle in a slaughterhouse.
The Sheriff does explian this briefly when is is talking to Carla Jean at that table.
The man at thevendbis his uncle.
Josh Broiln Lewellyn was also the team leader in Sicario.
The man that hires Carson is character actor Steven Root that also played Milton in Office Space and was also in Dodge Ball.
Anton was played by Spanish actor Javier Bardem, who most notably was also a villian in a James Bond film.
There is only 16 minutes of music total in the whole movie.
This film is the greatest Western set in modern times ever filmed.
Also Carson is based on a real hired killer, who was Woody Harrelson's father in real life.
@@GeorgeTropicana Thank you, George. Great observations!
@@GeorgeTropicana I found Phil's info short list on the film interesting, as like most people, myself included, would never have researched all these items.
Of course there will be trolls who don't appreciate any of it, but they're good for a laugh at their own narcissism.
Really? The 'greatest Western?' Maybe by adding the caveat 'set in modern times' might mean something except there's not too many Western films set in modern times, so that's a pretty short list.
@@clit_niblr0375 Certainly one of the greatest westerns set at any time. Blood Meridian by the same author is even better, and far far darker. In production now as a film, I believe. We'll see how that one goes. It's a far more difficult story to put on the screen.
Yes he killed the man's wife near the end...you missed the part where he checked his shoes for blood afterwards, which was the giveaway.
When I saw this in the theatre, my ticket cut the title off at "No Country for Old Me"
There's so much depth and suspense in this movie. It's very easy to take everything literally, but there is a subtle Seventh Seal vibe to it underneath that I love, leaving the possibility that the villain can be almost a supernatural character of fate, or maybe he merely believes he is.
This movie is all killer, no filler.
Chighur got the money. He waited until the police left, and checked the vent. He still visited the wife, because he saw himself as a vehicle of fate that had to follow certain rules. He made a promise that if the guy didn't give the money his wife would be killed. And he felt that the promise will have no power unless he follows thru, even if the man was already dead, and the money already recovered. A very interesting villian played very well. Databyter
23:30 The subtitle says "swinging dude" but what he actually says is "swinging dick", meaning a man. When he says "call me if anyone else checks in tonight - by anyone I mean any swinging dick" he's just emphasizing that the desk clerk should call him no matter who else follows him into the hotel, even if the clerk wouldn't find them suspicious.
The "Nam" they keep referring to is Vietnam.
And regarding where he puts the air tank: He only uses it to get into places. He needs both hands to use his shotgun so he leaves the air tank by whatever entrance he used it to get through.
This movie is like a slow moving brooding menacing mood that absorbs everything as it goes.
Then it's just, over.
Sounds like me, lol
“Where is da money?”
This must be your first Coen Brothers film 😂😂
This was the movie that made me fall in love with movies. I grew up watching Star Wars and all that. But seeing ao ie where the good guy dies, the bad guy wins, and another hero quits because he's grown afraid of a world he no longer understands... Amazing.
Hmmmm, not sure if I should watch this. Guess I'll flip a coin.
*four coin flips later*
“Oh heads! Guess I’ve got to watch it!”😂
Call it
The coin don't have no say, it's just you.
Good one!
The way I take this film is this: it's a modern Western...but with a significant change. There is no showdown, no hero vs villain showdown to decide the fate of those invested. That denial of a hero victory over evil, is what "No Country For Old Men" means. Throughout the film, the Sheriff bemoans this modern world, crimes committed with no purpose, just murder for the sake of murder. The big picture view...this is a violent land, full of drugs, money, murder without a sense of justice or goodness, and we are all subject to it, we hide from it, we try to ignore it, but it's still there. You have to be hard to survive in this land...which is a theme of many if not all Westerns, it's just that THIS world, this modern world with its lack of moral center, lack of empathy, lack of security...evil runs amok and can't be contained, you just have to survive it. No Country for Old Men.
"Is this a Quentin Tarantino movie?". Had me rolling on the floor. LOL.
Just a comment to keep the algorithm going.
Liked your reaction. 👌🏻👍🏻
This movie won 4 Oscars in 2008: Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (Javier Bardem), Best Achievement in Directing and Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay 😎
Best musical score.

Hi there. This film is dominated by silence, single sounds charge the tension. Did U noticed any background music? Everything is right here. Actors, details, camera movement and all of that shit. As a movie buff i Love it. Can't wait for the reaction! regards
"Nam" is slang for Vietnam, so those two guys in the hospital were Vietnam veterans (Vets is also slang for Veterans (and of course Animal Doctors - lol)).
The guy at the US border checkpoint (which you've not seen yet), was also a "Nam Vet", and why he lets Luelyn(sp) back into the U.S. (botherhood thing - nam vet club)
Drinking milk symbolize purity being defeated by evil and the corruption of human beings. Showing an evil adult drinking a glass of milk also represents evil consuming or destroying innocence. another gr8 movie reaction !!
😂you have a rich imagination
@@mr.t993 i know it's poetic but it's the answer that i found by many cinephiles
What a fantastic flick. IMHO it is the Coen Bros. finest work.
I like Fargo more
Yeah, well, that's just like, your opinion, man
Mine is O Brother...Fargo and No Country are right behind as the Coens' masterworks.
Also, in case you missed it, during one scene, Chigur was talking to the old man in the gas station. He said "Do you know what date is on this coin? 1960. It's been traveling for 22 years and now it's here.".
Using simploe math, we can determine that this film took place in the year 1982. That would explain the reason the cars looked so old and the hair styles (long hair). It also explains the cheap hotels ($26). Today you couldn't get a night in any hotel for less than $100 in America.
$100? Nonsense. Llewellyn’s cheap rooms were in motels. I live in one of the higher cost-of-living areas in the U.S., and you can easily get a motel room nearby for as little as $72/night. In much of the country it would be substantially less.
@@markhamstra1083 My point was that this film was based on the year 1982. I doubt you can still find rooms that are $26. That was my point. But I'm glad you can still find rooms for under $100. $75 is a good deal - even in a Motel.
@@markhamstra1083Yeah, I’ve been through Del Río and Eagle Pass a few times when I drove from L.A. deep into Mexico. I wanted to keep as much as possible on the U.S. side, and then drive past the border area as quickly as I could. So I drove to Laredo, crossed the border and drove south all day.
But anyway, ten years ago a room at one of these hotels was under $50, more like $30-$45. In Laredo it was more like $45 - $60. I spent a night in Del Río at a motel owned by an Indian guy (as in he was from India originally), and in the morning he had set out a comal and was frying up eggs and bacon and sausage. Potatoes, beans and salsa, too. And there was tortillas if you didn’t want toast. I had breakfast tacos. I guess he learned to cook American food from a Mexican. The rent for one night was $42 and included a hot breakfast. Not bad.
@@TampaCEOunder $50 is more like it. See my other comment.
The movie is set in 1980 (it never says that in the film, you're supposed to gather that from the style of clothes, the automobiles and home decor), Llewelyn is a veteran who served in 'Nam as in "Vietnam" in the late 60's or early 70's.
The coin toss scene where Anton say this coin is from 1958 and it been traveling 22 yrs to get here.1980
Glad to see this movie got you so invested. No music at all is such a ballsy move. Miss the Cohen brothers; not everything has to be wrapped with a pretty bow
One of the best mainstream movies of this millennium.
An instant classic of American cinema I thought when I 1st saw in theater. But in the reaction, what she said about drinking milk, made me laugh out loud. Had that thought my whole life so I'm not the only one. Can add serial killers can't be near a dog to that list.
He uses two guns actually. The air gun and a shotgun with a silencer. He used both with the 3 guys at the motel and only the shotgun with the guy at the desk, so that's why he had no tank.
Thanks...I was hoping someone else would save me having to explain!
The gun that Chigar is using in the second half of the film is not an "air gun it's a rifle with a huge silencer attached to it. That's why you don't see him carrying around the air tank anymore.
Rifle or shotgun?
I'm thinking it's a rifle because I've never heard that the technology exist to suppress the sound of a shotgun blast. I know suppressors exist for rifles though!
@@kennethwilliams7731 It’s a Remington 11-87 shotgun. No rifle or shotgun could be silenced as portrayed in this movie. Hollywood’s portrayal of the sound of suppressed firearms is generally pretty unrealistic, and this movie is even more unrealistic than that.
Highly recommend The Road, same author as No Country for Old Men!
Anton found a phone bill in Moss's trailer. He was then able to not only call the mother but could tell where she lived. He probably figured his best chance was to go there and keep the receiver on and see if it got a hit. If it didn't he could still try the mother's house.
If Moss had taken the guns and maybe a couple of stacks of cash, they probably would have let it slide. If he didn't have the tracker and didn't go back, they likely never would have found him anyway and it wouldn't have been worth the effort. But he got greedy. Even if he hadn't gone back they might well have used the tracker to find his home and it would have been on anyway.
interestingly, if he hadn't gone back to give the guy water, he probably would have just been ambushed at his trailer.. he prob would have left soon anyway but once he was found out by the cartel it put him in overdrive and he left immediately. it also warned him right away that he had to be super fast and careful because people were already trying to kill him
This movie is set in the 80’s
The conversation between the Sheriff and the guy in the wheelchair (the wheelchair guy was a main character in a 90's TV show about Alaska called Northern Exposure), were related, but the wheelchair fellow is the Sheriff's Uncle - the story he tell of the Uncle getting shot by Indians, was the brother of the Sheriff's grandad, and the brother of the wheelchair's dad, another brother - lol.
it works out, you just have to think across generations. its all in the family.

It won many awards it was at the best picture that year
The guy you recognized and who was hired to go after Chigurh is Woody Harrelson and his dad was an actual hitman!
Not only that, the killer Woody is playing IS his father.
5:20 - Bissie, he uses his binoculars to look at the trees b/c it provides him a w-i-d-e-r field of view. (he can c more area)
He actually said “any swinging dick” which means any man on your screen it said dude for some reason NAM is a short way of saying Vietnam
Same thing happen with my subtitles....For some reason the subtitles say "swinging dude" instead of "swinging dick", so, he basically wants to know if any other guy checks in that night.
since you liked this, there are several other movies based on Cormac McCarthy books. The Road is another recent one, very dark. and apparently there is a Blood Meridian adaptation in the works.
I can't imagine how Blood Meridian could be made into a movie. Hundreds of people are killed and scalped.
@@kellymoses8566I hope it’s never adapted. If it is, it’s going to be 100% horseshit.
@@MarcosElMalo2 If they made just the parts withe The Judge in them that would be cool.
there's no musical score, so you can't use the music to key you into what's happening or what's about to happen...it really ads to the tension of the various interactions. Imagine watching a horror film without the music keying you in to the "killer" about to strike...that's why this film has so much tension...it's punctuated with startling scenes that come out of nowhere.
Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds has no musical score whatsoever.
Best background poster, ever! No troubles. Words similar to unalive; eliminate, terminate, wipe out, eradicate (I like this one!), exterminate, decimate, put to sleep, put down, knock off, take out, go to sleep and extinguish. Thanks!!

- That’s a dead dog.
- Yes it is.
"Nam" stands for "Vietnam"; it's a way of referring to service in the Vietnam War. And he doesn't say "Any swinging dude", he actually says "Any swinging dick", which means "Any man at all".
The US population is 100% immigrant, or is descendant from immigrants (unless the individuals concerned are Native Americans, who anyway immigrated thousands of years earlier), and those immigrants often named the new towns and cities they founded after those they left behind in their home country. So, immigrants from Ukraine, for example, named Odessa, Texas, after Odessa, Ukraine.
Good reaction.
Might have been commented on, but did you enjoy the movie's soundtrack? (Trick question 😊)
'Swinging Dick' is what Llewellyn said in the film. It means, man, dude, guy, male person, anyone with a 'swinging dick'. Dick is slang for penis.
Some people live by the rule: "Tails never fails," though... phew...
Chigurh has the money. It's indicated when Tommy Lee Jones looks down in the hotel room and sees coins on the floor by the vent. Chirgurh used coins to unscrew the vent when the money was hidden earlier in the movie. The drug dealers didn't retrieve the money, which is why Chigurh went back there the fact he used coins again shows Moss hid it again in the vent
28:20 - No, this was not the actor who played "Professor Snape" in Harry Potter. That was the brilliant Alan Rickman (R.I.P.) . He was great in the movie "Die Hard" (another great one from the 1980s). No, this was the also brilliant Javier Bardem. I can definitelyt see the confusion. Thanks for another great reaction.
Absolutely right, Anto Chigurh was NOT in the Potter movies ... but Carla Jean (Llewelyn's wife) was.
17:35 - Bissie, in America, we can visit a gun shop and purchase guns - after a background chk. In the state I live in, the background chk takes about 10 minutes.
Depending on what year in the 80s, he might not have even needed a background check.
@@Dave-hb7lxin the 80s, yeah.
@@Dave-hb7lx "Federal law requires federally licensed gun dealers, importers, and manufacturers to run background checks before selling firearms of any kind to an unlicensed buyer." private sellers are not required
27:54 Yes, $100 dollars was a lot of money in America in 1980 when this movie is set in. The value of Mexico's currency was steadily diminishing at the same time too, so that was definitely A LOT to those musicians :3
The reason why no one called the police after Lewellan found the tracker....
I just spent 2 weeks driving cross-country for a kayaking trip with Orcas in Vancouver.
And....in the 52.5 hours of driving, we stopped at SEVERAL small towns in the middle of Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Nevada, even California where the population is SO SMALL (less than 4000 people) that the town center closes EVERYTHING at 5pm and there is not a SOUL around until about 10am the next morning. Coming from Dallas, it was a real eye-opener to see how vast America is and how small some of its towns are.
ONE VERY SURPRISING MISTAKE: Carson tells Chigurh he can take him to an ATM and get him $14k. The film is set in rural Texas in 1980, there is no way in hell he had access to an ATM, then, in Texas, that he could get $14k from. It's unlikely any of these people would even know what an ATM was, they were not widespread or popular in 1980.
Yes and no. ATMs had been around for more than a decade at the time the movie was set, and there were already ATMs that could execute transactions with more than a single bank in 1982. Easily finding one near the Texas-Mexico border at that time is more problematic, as would be withdrawing $14,000 in cash from one even today.
Why is the fact that people drink milk in movies weird? It's literally one of the most popular drinks in the world next to water.
When your back tenses up the easiest thing to do is drink/eat vinegar. Eating pickles are the best for your muscles. Don't know how it works but it does work. I get Charlie Horses, extreme leg cramp, and as soon as you eat vinegar the pain stops. Lots of sports teams also drink pickle juice for cramps. It's better than taking medicine and unless it's really bad it works. Just the mama coming out in me.
Bisscute, "The Sea Inside" is another AMAZING, award-winning film staring Javier Bardem (Anton Chigurh). This would show you just how much acting range Javier has. He is fantastic.
That movie is in my top favorite movies. No joke.
Another great movie released the same year is “There will be blood”. It’s similar to this film in a lot of ways
Anton is the personification of Fate. He's generous with the coin toss, giving people the opportunity to change it. Moss represents Chance, it was by this he found the money etc. Sheriff Bell represents Order, but when Chance meets Fate, he feels "overmatched," he has no choice but to bow out, hence No Country For Old Men. Ps. Heads on the coin toss is always right cuz the point is if you use your HEAD, you won't end up on the TAIL end of the barrel.
35:03 - Nam = Vietnam. The U.S. was in a “conflict” there from 1966-1972.
In some scenes you're asking where Chigurh's pneumatic bolt gun is, he isn't using it at times but uses a Remington 11-87 shotgun with a suppressor when that's a better weapon for those instances.
23:33 Yeah that's junk subtitles for you. I recently watched an 'Alien' reaction and at the point where Parker shouts at Lambert "Get out of the room !" they had the subtitles as him shouting "Get ready to roll !" like what the actual F?? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I dropped my short term plans when I was that your reaction to this movie was posted. I really wanted to see your reaction to the milk scene.
I like a lot your reaction. The mad killer its played by Javier Bardem. An amazing Spanish Actor. I suggest you watch it him in another roles. Cheers from Spain dear Bisscute
Chirguh got the money in the end. When Llewyn was killed off camera by the drug dealers he hid the money in the vent and Anton went to the crime afterwards scene and got it out, it's all revealed in that one shot when the sheriff looks down and sees the coins on the floor by the vent
thanks for existing
All Cohen brothers movies must be watched! My favorite is still their first, Blood Simple! It was a big lie!!! They had no script or actors, but they shot a trailer. They took it to a movie festival and luckily got financial backing to make it!!😮😮😮
He walks past 7 dead humans and one dog and she's like "awwwwww, poor dog". lol
I don't think Llewelyn says "swinging dude" to the desk clerk.
I've always heard "swinging dick", meaning a male.
He did say “swinging d!ck”
yes, the captions were wrong
You liked the sherriff, you should be aware of who he is. Tommy Lee Jones is a major actor that has been in many strong movies. In college, he was the roommate of Vice President Al Gore.
43:11. Scottish actress using Southern accent and Spanish actor using a mysterious non-Spanish accent.
It wasn't 'swinging dude' actually. CZcams, and apparently the movie player, has filters.
This is probably my favorite movie of all time. It also features (by far) my favorite movie "villain". Just a masterclass in directing, cinematography, and ATMOSPHERE. I watch it at least once a year.
Same. One of the few movies I can watch once a year
Anton was using a rifle with a silencer when killing at a distance.
Hi Miss Biss!🙂Nice reactions to this very unusual film. The look of the killer was parodied for quite a while after this came out on the media, with his unususal hair style. The actor is Javier Bardem. He has been in a lot of films, just not with that hair style.😄I still need to watch your "John Wick 4" reaction. I am watching the film tonight or tomorrow.🙂

Haha, yaaay a coffee drinker. Ill drink 4-8 cups a day! Love coffee 👍
The movie was made around 2008 but the year the movie takes place is 1979 or 1980. That’s why the prices are so cheap.
i have to ask... what is that poster from in the background?
Welcome to the Coen Bros movies. Look them up, you'll probably like every one of their movies.
Any swinging dude means any swinging man parts 😂
You had the correct English word for supporting your arm when broken - that's a sling
Javier Bar diem's performance in this is terrifying *#CallIt*
Wow you saw this now. Im glad. I saw it first on a plane between Indonesia (where i live) ans UK (where im from). It's perfect for a plane.
40:15 you accidentally nailed the point of this scene. He's either there, or he isn't. Like the coin toss, heads or tails. Life or death... has he already left? Or is he really there, waiting for you behind the door...
40:42 i had to watch the movie twice to figure out that meant anton got the money from the vent, good observation skills there
Not just the villains likes to dink milk... Leon the professional also drinks milk.
One of my favorite movies. My advice is read the book. It fills in some detail omitted in the movie.
The wife is the voice of Merida in Brave. I had no idea she was native Scottish for years
Javier Bardem and Brad Pitt and Cameron Diaz... The Counselor. You will thank me.
"Any swinging dick" is an expression that simply means "any guy" ie: "If absolutely any man at all comes looking for me, let me know."
Great film. Rich photography. I am surprised no one picked up on the name of Zoss pharmacy. Mike Zoss was the producer, I spotted it immediate. It was returning with the carton of water that got him into hot milk.
Now i remember why i never watched it a second time.............Oscar winner, Peh!
The build ups are tense 😅
You are in for a treat!
Darling you babysitting a little bear haha 😊😊
In the "swinging dude" scene, it actually shows Anton's truck outside the hotel when Llewellyn looks out the window.
This movie is made by the Cohen brothers (Joel and Ethan). Their movies are amazing.
