The confusion about why Kate was on the mission - The Central Intelligence Agency (C.I.A.), by law, cannot operate inside the United States of America - that is the F.B.I.'s jurisdiction. Kate was needed to give an F.B.I. presence for a C.I.A. operation on both sides of the U.S.A./Mexican border.

Yeah, I'm not buying that. Josh Brolin's and Benicio's team were soooo far off the reservation, so beyond the pale, that they were practically feral. 99.98% of the stuff they did was illegal. But they drag Kate and Reggie/FBI in for the other.02%?? Didn't make sense in the context of the film. I saw this at the theater and I had to roll my eyes when they gave that FBI-CIA explanation.....extremely lame. That and forcing Kate to sign the paper at the end; c'mon, really? They don't have someone who can forge her signature? .....comical.
That said, it was a very good movie, but they should have left the Kate and Reggie characters out completely; they were just carry-on baggage.

ROE stands for Rules Of Engagement, basically says what you can and cannot do, like at the entrance of the tunnel he says “ weapons free “ meaning they can shoot anyone on sight, unlike at the border they said if someone shoots at you, you can shoot back.

I love the realism of this movie, the brutality and violence is an everyday, and repeating occurrence in the lives of the unfortunate people that live in the midst of the drug cartels. The death and shooting scenes were well portrayed, extremely well acted, and realistic. The fact that she had no idea what she was getting involved in, nor who she was dealing with, was surprising, yet satisfying, due to the fact that she was only being used, like he told her, "you are not a wolf". Excellent movie, and one hell of a reaction to it Madalina. They way he kept him alive long enough to know what it feels like to see your wife and kids killed is priceless. Your perception, intelligence, and the way you handle surprises are so impressive, and your commentary is always sharp and right on point. You tell it like it is, recognize the situations, how they need to be handled, see the bigger picture and what needs to be done, and your not all shocked and weepy when it goes down, that's why I truly enjoy watching your reactions.

"An eye for an eye," Book of Exodus 21:23-27. Why? Because people kept killing innocents. If a man killed your daughter the adjudication by old law was that you must kill the killers daughter. "Eye for an eye" principle put an end to that. If a man kills your daughter the killer and the killer only receives the punishment. Not innocents. It also stopped generational debt, where children were enslaved because of the debts of their parents. In China, the Ming Dynasty finally ended the "9 Familial Exterminations" that lasted for centuries. That was the practice where if you threatened the Royal Family, then your grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren would all be executed before your eyes. And finally you: with the knowledge that your crime got your entire family's bloodline wiped out. I like you kid, but "I would have killed those innocent children because of what their father did?" Really?

This film has one of the best "bad guys" ever put on film. If you want to see him in his mid 20s watch "The Goonies". It is a very popular and well regarded children's movie. Benedicio Del Taro - the hitman, Sicario, plays a very good role in the film "The Usual Suspects." If you want to see a film that is also a blend of Spanish and English watch 'Pan's Labyrinth."

  • @MrSmithla
    @MrSmithla Před 6 měsíci +1

If you didn’t catch the overall picture, the US Government has assessed the overall drug importation problem across the US’ southern border and decided that the demand inside the US is so high (Which the Government cannot control) and so many different groups are bringing it in (A fact the government thinks it can control), that the only reasonable response is to limit the number of organizations bringing it in to one, which will be allowed to continue but in a more controlled way.
Essentially the Government’s plan is to behave as if the substances being brought in were, in fact, legal, so long as they come from that one organization.
The substances are NOT, technically, legal but the thinking goes, “If we can limit the incoming stream to one organization, then we’ll take serious steps to bringing the entire trade under better control.”
The real problem, as expressed by Josh Brolin’s character, is that the Government has decided to not let citizens legally purchase or possess it but that hasn’t in any way stopped the demand/desire for the substances, which only seems to go up, never down.
For another movie very much like this, try ‘Traffic.’ It’s a different story but you’ve still got what starts out as multiple different stories that all sort of come together at the end.

R.O.E. Rules Of Engagement It defines how you are allowed to respond to the enemy. It’s supposed to define a perceived hostile threat

I absolutely cannot recommend the movie Savages(from 2012) enough! Especially if you like the Mexico/America crime thriller genre
It has an amazing cast(including Benicio del Toro who plays Alejandro in this) and a great story, I recommend the “uncensored version” over the “theatrical version”

In a way perhaps at the end he would have welcomed her shooting - it is the end he expects someday, the end of his pain/grief from the loss of his family.

ROE stands for Rules Of Engagement. Outlining what you are allowed or not allowed to do. When they were in the traffic jam returning from Mexico they were told to fire only after the cartel members fired first. That was the Rules Of Engagement. When they were about to enter the tunnel they were told the ROE was weapons free. Basically no rules at all.

The issue isn't about jurisdiction in Mexico. It's having jurisdiction in the US. CIA cannot operate on american soil without having another agent from a federal agency involved, like the FBI. Then CIA works as "advisors" and the FBI "runs" the show. Outside the US the CIA doesn't really care abut jurisdiction. They're everywhere.

Mule refers to anyone who either injests or carries drugs across borders for other people on their person or in their bags, vehicles or other vessels. I know large parts of Mexico are relatively safe and tourist friendly, but others are deadly and the most dangerous places on earth, so I just can't be bothered with the place. There are plenty of other places I'd rather be.

What they portray going on the border is very realistic. Up in with 🎉cartel is wiping out any dealers not working for them. Seen in local papers and news of them taking out family members to get them to comply if they feel like giving you a warning. Down south, they use local kids, particularly those of the native american tribe reservations to do drug runs up north. A lot of them live under the poverty line or already have a criminal record so options for employment are limited. The tunnels, though, are everywhere across the border making it difficult to shut down
