Eh if that would be the case then it would be bankrupt. Overbooking could be so easily avoidable if other airlines weren't hungry for every single potential profit, so on the other hand it's just really sad how they can't keep up with this lousy airline in this regard.

Apparently you can book two coach seats together for one person on the site, but they want you to indicate by drop down menu *why* you need two seats. Your choices on that drop down are, A.) pets B.) extra luggage/jewelry C.) fat

Flew with Air Koryo from Beijing to Pyongyang and back a few years ago, honestly not that bad compared to the cheaper airlines we have in the West. Airport was great, as ours was the only flight, so smooth sailing really.

Believe it or not, Air Koryo actually has a very decent safety record if you look at airlineratings.com. It's a lot easier to manage the logistics when you only have a few flights a week to three destinations (Beijing 3X, Shanghai 2X, and Shenyang and Vladivostok 1X/each). They don't have to run a massive logistical web and can focus on perfection because every flight is a big deal. Another reason for the low inflight product rating is the fact that so much of it is based on the entertainment options. But Air Koryo only offers some Moranbong music and propaganda so they fall flat there.

One correction and one news flash.
1) The planes are not all from the “Soviet era”. The planes you are most likely to fly as a tourist to Pyongyang are the Tupolev Tu-204 or Antonov An-148 delivered between 2007 and 2013.
2) Pyongyang has a new international airport terminal (terminal 2) that opened in June 2015.

+Aertraveller Structurally tu-204 is 70tech based on tu154. It's loud, inefficient, shakey and a nightmare to the passengers. More than 1000 global airlines picked 757 ( which is now being also retired for a321). No country except national tyranies chose the tu-204. That says a lot.

Last year I flew from shanghai to Vladivostok as my job is mostly dealing with communications between U.S, China and Russia. I flew with this North Korean airline and found that it was secretly the best airline you could ever fly within its 4 international stops.
