At our mill. We cut 1 3/8 stringers out of the 3 1/2 inch cants. So if it was 12 inches wide. We would just rip it in half. And will still get 4 stringers out of 6 inch cants. The brewer gangsaw will cut up to 11 inches or so

When you talk about dimensions one get a feeling you imply precision........in wet wood? How much margin do you leave for shrinkage and jointer/planer?. Or is it you never saw for furniture?
I make the 1x12’s with an extra 1/2 of width. They’ll shrink close to 12 on sticks. And shrink more if they’re put up in a climate controlled environment. A lot of these boards will be used for barns, decking, porches, and exterior siding. We have batton strips if the lumber is being used for exterior siding. With the 6’s and 8’s I got around 3/8 of an inch
