    Yeah, it is really weird how popular the myth is that medieval scholars thought the world was flat. I recall reading something from St. Thomas Aquinas's work and it made some comment about the world being round as a matter of fact. The real questions were: How big is the Earth? How much of what is unknown is water? How much of what is unknown is land? And can we safely sail around it?
    And even then a lot of the estimates were really close.

      Yeah, an awful lot of people seem to think medieval people were dumb and sailors like Columbus were the only big brain bois that knew the earth was round, while in reality the nature of Columbus audiences with queen Isabela were not to debate about the shape of the earth but rather it’s size… she was right, the planet was way bigger that Columbus though and he would have starved to death in the voyage to Asia if it were not for a new continent in the way

      um akshully, the sun does orbit the Earth in the same way the Earth can be said to orbit the sun, it's just that the sun is significantly more massive so that the barycenter they are both orbiting is a great distance inside the sun producing an incredibly slight wobble that's so small as to be insignificant aside from for the purposes physics.

      The summer solstice was the date picked, and Cyene was picked for the same reason... Cyene was on the Tropic of Cancer... so on the summer solstice, the sun was directly overhead. This happened every year cos the Summer Solstice is an annual event, obviously. So, the angle of the shadow from the Obelisk in Alexandria on the summer solstice gave an accurate measurement of the difference in latitude between the two places.

    What you're saying is a philosophical guess from them, I'll tell you something interesting and sorry for the length in advance 😅, It is noticeable that most of the names of the stars are Arabic, that the numbers used by the West are Arabic, and that the science of algebra and algorithms was established by Muslim scholars. This was at the height of Islamic civilization 700 years ago. All this stopped, and a small incubator for science remained in Andalusia, and from there the science moved to Europe, and then the scientific giving to this nation completely ended! The Renaissance began in Europe.
    Muslims knew scientifically that the earth is a ball. Ahmed bin Omar, Abu Ali Ibn Rustah, who died approximately in the year 300 AH (912 AD), that is, 700 years before Galileo, wrote that the earth is spherical divided into 360 degrees, and there is the equator, and he determined the orbits of Cancer and Capricorn and their inclination from the line Equanimity is 24 degrees. He wrote that the day is divided into 24 hours, Al-Razi said 606 AH (700 years ago) in his book Tafsir Keys of the Unseen - The Great Interpretation: “The engineering evidence has indicated that the earth is a sphere, so it was at the beginning of its occurrence if we said that it was a sphere and now it remains a sphere as well…” and they divided it into lines of longitude and latitude because the device The astrolabe is determined that the Earth is a sphere with the equator and the orbits of Cancer and Capricorn. Muslims used it as a navigation device and a tool for determining the direction of the Qiblah. This was 400 years before Galileo. Al-Razi also said: “The days may have equal amounts, like the days in the places of the equator, and they may be different, like the days in other places…”
    in the event of a lunar eclipse; It is a phenomenon that occurs when the location of the earth is along a straight line between the sun and the moon, and the moon becomes a display screen for the shadow or shadow of the earth as shown in the phases of the eclipse. If this shadow is straight, then this means that the earth is straight, square, or rectangular. Arc like the crescent, the Earth is not square or rectangular ..... This is from old books

    If the earth is round and rotating while orbiting around the sun, then why do we see the same stars in the sky every night?

    • @Aegis---
      @Aegis--- Před rokem +1

      Why wouldn't we? The stars we see appear in different places in the sky depending on its position in its rotation and orbit

      the stars don’t blip out of existence until millions of years from now, why wouldn’t we see the same stars? they also are in different angles in different parts of the year because the earth rotates and orbits

      If we are seeing the same stars then the earth isn't moving, the sky is.

      @@AwesomEthan - by everyone who honestly looks into it. The arguments are sound & logical. The community has been able to completely refute every heliocentric mathematical model claim. Many with validated hypothesis through experimentation. This means empirical proof! Here is just one example of a group of folks known as FECore that did a laser test.
