Alan really is an example of someone whose goals go beyond being being big for instagram. It’s so refreshing to see people like Alan in the fitness industry, this is the right attitude towards fitness and health. What you are not getting is that Weightlifting is a sport, either strength competitions or Bodybuilding. You don't get trophies for a good attitude. It is all about getting bigger and stronger. Not healthier, though that is certainly a side benefit. I think Alans attitude is depressing and not factually correct. It's all downhill after 33. It depends on several factors. Genetics play a large role. Some people are more prone to be tall, others short. Some people are more prone to fast twitch muscle fibers, some to slow twitch. Some people are more prone to large bone structure, some small. Some people are more prone to have muscle insertions closer to joints, some farther away. All of these factors, and several others, play a part in how someone is going to look as far as muscular build goes. How you train plays a really big part. Compare most power lifters to bodybuilders, and you'll definitely notice that.

6 years and he has no potential left? 😂 I couldn't disagree more. There's guys making progress 10, 15, 20 years after training. Yes, natural ones. Progress is just smaller and happens at a much slower pace.
I also don't think Alan has maxed out his size yet as he comes from more of a powerlifting background instead a hypertrophy one. I'm sure if he focused exclusively on bodybuilding for a few years he could still get bigger and thus add more strength. There's definitely no need for him to take gear.

I agree. Alan definitely has more in the tank. He could've reached a 400 bench and a 600 squat and even a 700 DL if he was able to remain on course. But on top of being a gym owner he now has a family, so his regular form of training isn't easily within the cards for him, so I think he tells himself he reached his limit as a way of making peace with the nagging thoughts of "I could've done more." But overall I'm happy for him. It's not an easy mindset to adopt, but he still loves what he does even though it's not his true passion. He's made peace with it and that's what matters.

As long as you're not training optimally with progressive overload and good form, the years you put in were mostly junk volume, no matter how hard you were going, killing yourself with multiple drop sets etc, you were still stuck as a beginner. if you were actually training properly since a teenager as a natural, you would peak between late 20's and early 30's.

500 has been my life long goal and I just don’t think it’s ever going to happen unless I take steroids. I know possibly if I started a dedicated powerlifting routine or working on technique there is a small chance but I’m just not sure
Anyways that’s that . I’m trying to find more comfort in focusing on my physique more instead of strength. Almost had a 6 pack this summer and got down to 225 lbs at 6ft tall. 16% body fat

Something I think I screwed up on for years is that I was just on a bro split. One body part per day once per week. I did well this summer doing everything twice per week with less volume per workout. One light day and one heavy day. My lower ratio was the best it’s ever been so I think at a heavier bodyweight I could possibly hit 500 with this routine. I just don’t like how I look at 250-260 which is the bodyweight I need to hit 500 in my opinion. I’ve also never fully transitioned into powerlifting technique. Elbows tucked. Slight arch etc. I just bench the basic way.
Injury almost always shuts me down near 500 as well. A shoulder or pec will start bothering me and I have to back off. Probably a technique issue as well. I’m just to the point where I’m just looking for the east way out. Do a cycle and hit 500. But I know it probably won’t end there .

Essentially you shouldn't touch them until you have a complete understanding on how you eat, Over-the-counter supplements, and fitness. This takes years. I think the argument that you shouldn't take them until you're at your genetic limit is flawed, this can take decades and by the time you reach it you'll have to be much more careful in your dosages and so forth. A 22 year old can get away with more than a 38 year old.

how do I keep my hamstrings from spasming at night? I tend to use a stationary bike while catching up on emails and other such things daily for about 90-120min. Moderate intensity steady state. I foam roll daily, use a full spectrum infrared sauna daily, and replenish with electrolytes. But my hamstrings still always feel a little crampy. Will that just subside over time? I’ve been doing this for about a year now since my left hip got replaced. I have ehlers danlos syndrome, a genetic degenerative joint disease, but my time and intensity have increased by 50% in the last couple of months as I have gotten stronger and healthier. TIA.

ED isn't just joint related, it includes all connective tissue too. Keep the electrolytes going, magnesium is the 'anti cramp' supplement and is best taken orally whilst enjoying an Epsom Salts bath a few days per week to allow the skin to absorb it without stomach issues.
Hips and upper legs, along with glutes and lower back are intertwined with cross over patterns from connective tissues, muscles and tendons. Although stretching is great for most people, for those with ED it can be tricky due to the over elastic nature stemming from collagen loss.
Gentle yoga type exercises, weight training and cardio will hopefully help strengthen your body....but reducing bike time taking pressure off connective tissue and building muscle could be more beneficial.
P.s... I don't think deadlifting 1RM is the way to go by the way in the case of strength training but the most common rep and set range for hypertrophy would be ideal.

I do full body weight training 3x/week. 8-12 reps. Trying to build functional strength, not trying to break any body building/strength records here. Lol.
I also do physical therapy daily at home and 2x/week with a therapist.
On the days I am not strength straining I am doing functional strength and functional mobility type workouts, core stability, joint stabilization, and foam rolling. I don’t stretch. It is not possible for me to stretch because of my laxity. Hence a massage chair, foam roller, lacross balls, IR Sauna are my best friends.
I do a dairy free carnivore way of eating to manage my chronic inflammation and pain. For 20 years I was on 300mg/day of oxycodone and at times a cocktail of opioids to manage daytime pain and then for 5 years a sedative to sleep through night time pain. I got some disagreement with maxing out gains at 30 or 35. I got locked up lost all my roid gains (before that I was on the kitchen sink for over 6 years of ridiculous mega doses) and at at 46 years old didn't know it was possible to gain muscle naturally.
But I have to tell, that inside world is thousands and thousands of reps. Lots of sugar/snack cakes. You would be a mega fat ass with that. These were mostly calisthenic routines but we used water weights bags and mops handles and used people's weights. Still it was body weight dominant. And protein? It was shit and very little comparatively so.
But it wasn't just me. Lots of guys grew big.
I believe it was super glycogen over compensation.
When I get out and finally get to my weights and a regular workout routine I slowly lost a lotta strength and started losing my look because I look super jacked on no roids and no fucking protein to speak of. Like maybe 60 70 grams day
But I don't think in numbers of how much I can lift. Igaf what my bench or anything else is.
One the thing there were guys long time and lifers in their mid to late 60's that were the same way.
A typical day was get up 500 pushups, 500 body squats, 500 situps, 500 pullups, breakfast, sleep the same routine before lunch and dinner. Later same thing as the notion hit. I got to where popping off a thousand straight pushups and 500 pullups wasn't shit. I took in a fuck ton of carbs.
No. You don't max out at 25 or 35. That why when I got after after discovering the real world it was impractical to do that routine cuz I had a life to live and watching myself lose my physique.
But if I get obtain that physique with a lower testosterone shit food and horrible living conditions that I could do miracles with just a little bit of juice I figured. And I did.
Now what I do agree on cuz I get sick and fucking tired of these people and these kids that the first day they pick up a weight they think they have to be on fucking steroids for some type of PE.
And if they don't take any juice or any enhancement drug they don't work out.
So one of my beliefs is also and I suppose coach Greg will rip me to shreds cuz I'm not educated like him is that your exercising your slow twitch muscle and you're causing them to hypertrophy so you're not tearing down muscle the same as you would so you can get quite a bit out of a shit ton of reps and even gained strength out of it because you're not tearing down tissue like when you actually lift weights with your fast twitch fibers.
I don't know all the fucking science all I know was and is I've been trained since I've been 12 years old in all conditions and I learned that being inside not even thinking it was possible. I didn't touch juice till 35 to 40. A few years break the everything max quantity. Untill about 45. I also sired two kids and NEVER during that whole time of juicing ever used HCG or any type of PCT bullshit. Of course they never really came off but still. I wasn't susceptible to ball shrinking I don't know why but they just didn't drink no matter how much shit I took.

Greg, if you haven't already, react to what Mark Bell in that original video said about steroids. He said they don't make much difference or something to that effect.

I don't believe he's maxed his potential for muscle mass. Look at his quads in this video: if he did bodybuilding leg work for the next year, dialed back the strongman/powerlifting stuff, he wouldn't have bigger quads? I don't believe it.

I love the “ I’ve trained since I’m 10 and I’m still making gains at 40” comments. Yet this isn’t played out in natural bodybuilding anywhere. Once those lads have filled out the weight barely changes year after year, maybe by a lb or two.
