Fluterra I don’t really care if it’s “too common” to be honest, as long as something is good, I don’t care how many people have it. But to be frank, the amg has a certain wild appeal to it, while still offering quality and comfort, that no Porsche offers nowadays.

No hot laps? Seriously? Shame! About the BMW, I have been saying for about 10 years now that the brand is lacking a dedicated sport car and a super car. The M models just can't compete anymore with the likes of Audi R8 and Mercs GT-R's. There was a time when M3's battled with 911. Now it takes no more than a Cayman S to do the Job.

I feel the main reason Porsche always does as well as it does, is they always keep their weight down. In most match-ups, the GT3RS is always the lightest. For the Mercedes being as heavy as it is and yet being as good as it is, I'd love to see what a true lightweight version would do!

The Porsche wins so much time when accelerating out of the corner, because you can go full throttle much earlier, which ist caused by the mechanichal grip that is produced by the wheight of the motor over the rear axis.

The GTR has two turbo chargers which make him accelerate so much faster at mid speed on little straights of which the Nordschleife many has. The AMG has 85HP more than the GT3 which is just 1.5 sec slower at 20km which is litterally nothing so the comparison between these two in general is a bit wrong

I'm a Porsche guy, so that gets my vote, but the AMG is a lot of car for the money as well.
The BMW is overpriced and looks like a basic 3 series with some aftermarket pieces. Not a fan.

I’m a proud owner of Mercedes AMG lineup, but My Goodness Gracious the Porsche’s 911 lineup is incomparable to the others. I’m thinking about trading my 10’ C63 AMG in for a 04’ 996 Carrera 4s.
Porsche was been winning me over, slowly but surely. Reliability,Maintenance,overall Driving Experience all goes to the 911. Luxury and Power goes to Mercedes.

Chris just appreciates the actual car. He hates the Audi RS3. Loves the BMW M135i but hates the M4 GTS.
BMW seems to have slowly given priority to their marketing department over their engineering. I personally think they started losing a lot of what they were about after the E90/93 series M cars, which ironically is why they and the E46 series M cars are now in such demand. The fact that almost every auto journalist across every continent has universally heaped praise on Porsche's GT cars speaks a lot to their philosophy.

Love it when BMW's get called out for what they are, anyone who thinks they are great has never owned or driven one for a period of time.
Above that, go ask any engine repair shop what their main business is, the answer will be BMW and Subaru WRX. Go ask for yourselves before buying either.
The reason Journos heap praise on BMW's can only be because how they release the cars, want a free week long trip to Switerland all expenses paid? Then don't write a bad thing about our cars ...
I just had another BMW last month for a week, a 540, besides being just a car and nothing more, the side to side shimmy movement from the rear suspension was making my passengers sick, and overall the movement from the rear suspension steering itself was just awful. Benz suffer from this less, but it's there also.

I am a BMW fanboy, and i agree putting a Gts with 2 Gtr’s is utterly stupid.
There was a long period of time where a BMW M3 would hardly ever loose a comparison test. Now with the shortcomings of the various M4 models, it never seems to win one.

Because they're following the money. Sell, sell, sell. That why there's this practice in the industry to now put a car manufacturer's most prestigious badging on almost all of their products. However, I suspect sports cars will increase in popularity again (we're seeing it now) and BMW will have to go back to their roots.

umm....not sure if you've been under a rock. but the M4 is the best in the segment. every new car that launches is said to be the "M4 killer" like the guila, rs5 etc. if the M4 never won, all these new cars wouldn't try to be like it and beat it

You can't compare the M4 GTS to these cars. It's just a tuned M4. BMW doesn't make supercars. Mercedes has AMG GT and Porsche has 911 but bmw just doesn't compete in this segment. the only thing thats similar is the price and the M4 is only priced this high for it's exclusivity and rareness. It's really just for BMW super enthusiasts. It's not meant to take down the supercars on the track lol honestly i think the only reason so many ppl include bmw in random performance tests is because they know they'll get more clicks, just because bmw is in the title.
No it's because it's a direct comparison in the segment. 2 door hard-core versions of sports cars made for the track and around the same price point imo
BMW is looking for mass market sales these days and still offer some affordable sports cars that i can afford...M2, M3, M4...if you have loads of more money for something much more superior, that's great for you. i've owned several M cars over the years and have enjoyed each and everyone of them to the fullest extent!!! have fun!!!!

AMG GT R for me. May not be as fast, but there's the emotive aspect that comes with this genre of car and the Merc is better looking and also sounds like a god of war. Another great video Mr Harris.

There is AMG GT3 for about $450K and more user-friendly AMG GT4 for about $250K. These things are as fast as you can. Besides, there is also AMG Project One which will cost you more than $3 million on the second hand market (on auction); all units are already bought before they are even produced.

I know I am going to get some hate, but I don't like the M4 GTS looks too much like a 4 series. Well, a more muscular version on the 4 series, whilst the other cars in this video look unique.

It’s a special edition m4, not designed to compete with the Merc and Porsche. Just like the special edition old shape C63 wasn’t designed to compete just be a special edition of the car.
I like the small M2 a lot and with the M8 probably coming quite soon after the 850 is out now...there should be more BMW sportscars out soon.

Just wanted to say that I barely watch review type videos for cars these days (rather spend my time working on/building my cars, and being a professional technician kind of wears you out on brand new cars), from Motor Trend to this new Top Gear team, and I just think it's so awesome that Chris Harris (who I started viewing in 2012) is on TG now and bringing all of his awesomeness to the table there.

Its great to see that Chris (and neil) are producing lots more of these youtube videos again despite being big top gear celeb now too. Its like Top Gear introduces you to the cars and has some funny moments and the youtube vids are for people really serious about the cars. Best of both worlds!! Keep it up :)
Porsche is amazingly composed on the the turns. You see how level the body is. 8:14 you can see it actively correcting it's self and adjusting the height of the suspension while actively distributing wheel power to tires.
For the people complaining about this isn't funny or exciting, these reviews are for people who are more into the technical side of cars, numbers power & tuning and all that stuff. For the main show that's where you get a funny joke review with no real conclusion because the viewers rarely know anything about cars. Also this is what Chris does best and why he's a qualified host. He can actually drive

the m4 gts was bmw's attempt at creating a track focused car to show what the m4 can do. sad to say that they failed badly and no matter what you do to an m4 it will be nothing more than a sporty coupe. bmw should focus on creating fun to drive cars like the m2 and not attempt to get into the performance track oriented cars department because they will get stomped on by the likes of porsche and other performance cars manufacturers.

this is so false lmao the M4 GTS succeeded in what it was trying to do. it was trying to show how well the M4 can be engineered to perform on a track...it did just that. BMW doesn't make a car that compares to the Porsches, only in price are they a similar comparison which is why the GTS showed up in the video. BMW cars when they are compared with comparable models, absolutely kill it on the track. Merc has the AMG GT, Audi has R8, porsche has 911, bmw doesn't make a comparable model yet. so yes the m4 got stomped, as it should have lol

yeah.. i think bmw is afraid to invest any money to build supercars because they dont wana get overshadow by the other competitors so they just stick a m symbol on their sedan car to make it look like they are not missing out. although making a supercar with a price tag of $160k is risky. look at merc sls amg. it didnt sell well because for that price people would just get a lambo r8 or a ferrari. why buy a decent merc sls for that price... maybe bmw doesnt want to end up like merc was back then...

That's not true. I am a BMW fanboy and I liked this video. You can be a fanboy and like a specific brand, but the fact that that brand you like is falling behind, is their own problem and demise nothing we fanboys can do about it. Eventually BMW will be ditched by their fanboys who will go to AMG & Porsche for a true sports car.

wow, 75% of people here are just the old annoying top gear fans who have forgotten about the grand tour. The rest seems to complain about chris for the sake of complaining. We truly are an undeserving bunch.
I don't mind Chris Harris, but don't pretend he has no definite biases. Clarkson had biases, but still told the truth as he saw it over the top of his biases, Harris however steers you to his preferences, that's a no no for a Journo.
Clarkson would also offer a wide testing parameter for the cars, even including how good or bad the stereo, GPS or phone worked. Harris just slides them for the bulk of the test, that's fun and should be there for all the child in us, but for how long and how is that relevant?
Let's not kid ourselfs by calling anything Clarkson & co did after series 8 as journalism. What they did was comedy, and especially in the end it wasn't even funny.
Personally I think what especially Harris has done is get back to basics. And even TG was a car show in the beginning (series 1-7). And it definitely was car show 20 years before Clarksons revival.
We suck.
