- We met our main characters, we have our premise, and now the show is off to a memorable start. Our main characters have their goals and all has to do with surviving. But for Joel and Ellie, there is more to it than that.
As wild as episode 1 was, the rest of the season will likely be crazier. We’re probably going to meet all sorts of characters. In this world, no one is exactly who they appear to be.
The Last of Us episode 2, titled “Infected”, will premiere on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, January 22, at 9 pm Eastern Standard Time, 8 pm Central Time, and 6 pm Pacific Standard Time. As of now, the times and dates will remain the same throughout, with new episodes releasing every Sunday until the season finale.

i love the shot of the infected looking at the knife instead of ellie. it’s like he knows what she’s got in her hands and the fact she’s probably going to stab him. shows they’re not just mindless zombies and that they still have basic intelligence left

The human is still in the newly infected house for awhile I think, they just don't have any control over their actions.

I think so far he’s not reminding me of Joel.. as much as Bella Ramsey and everyone else reminds me of their characters.. but it’s still early days - he just doesn’t intimidate me like Joel.. he’s basically just Mando

Interesting how the infected look in the show. You can see in their eyes they're still intelligent. They just have no control over themselves
IIRC it is also mentioned in the game that they basically are trapped in their own bodies. Knowing what they are doing but cannot stop it.

I always wondered exactly how they transmitted the virus since there aren’t technically zombies, the vines into the brain/mouth was fantastic.
@@MiamiMike1793 actually it’s a fungi infection, the cordycpes fungi actually exists but it can’t infect humans only insects such as ants , I haven’t seen any study that it says that the ant is sentient or not , like , if they are aware of what they are doing but cannot stop it , but if the fungus really does trap you in your own body and basically you aware of what you are doing but cannot stop it , that would be messed up.

The cast may not look like the video game characters but I really loved Sarah's and Ellie's performance, they perfectly nailed those characters and especially Sarah!
My only criticism is that Sarah didn't have a Southern accent, but I was quickly so immersed I forgot about it lol. There is no word I could use to describe how amazing her acting was; the very visceral fear on her face while Joel carried her and the way she sounded like she'd genuinely been shot, clinging to Joel like that was the only thing she could do... It was definitely worse than the game I think (and the game was already top-notch!)

The performances are amazing, the dialouge is witty, the characters are both compelling and realistic, the writing is top notch, the cinematography is on point, this might just be my new favorite show-

Imagine if they did it properly and actually followed the source material 1:1, along with a big budget like this show.They could also do re2 or re4 even! The resident evil movie that came out recently did a very bad job of portraying resident evil 1 and the mansion.probably because they were trying to fit it into a a 1 hour and 30 min movie.they could probably do a combination of resident evil 1 and 2 for season 1, or something like that.

The first episode blew me away! Went and installed the game again just to enjoy it in between episodes. Mad props to the whole cast. That scene where Sarah gets shot was impeccable acting from both Nico and Pedro! Love the cast, love that is not a 100% replica of the game but close enough to pay the source material homage!

I love how it follows the rough events of the game in a parallel perspective. In the game we never get to see how Ellie got involved with the fireflies, here we watch her side.
Honestly, if you ignore the little things like Joel not being the one who kills Robert, the show works great as an expansion of the game's story.
One thing I never understood in the last of us is that why despite Ellie being immune to the fungi but being immune, why do other infected still attack her , viruses , bactérias and funguses from the same specie never threaten each other and they all want to continue their cycle of life ( basically continue living and spread the infection) .

Many people believe she is infected with another far less deadly version of cordyceps. These cordyceps are already known in common society, and have anti-fungal properties.
They would attack her, as they would not see her as one of them. The low quality scanners used by the military would however not be accurate enough to determine the difference.
It’s probably because she’s immune and not infected or a carrier. She can’t become infected, therefor she’s never seen by the clickers as having the infection.
The first episode was wild! Blew away my expectations!
My 78 year old mother watched this with me and episode 1 has her absolutely on the edge of her seat for more. She absolutely loved it. I of course who's played the first one and is halfway through the second can't wait for episode 2.

All those video game memories came rushing back when I heard the guitar theme song ❤ looking forward to see Troy Baker and Ashley on the show.

As someone who hasn't actually played the games but seen the first few hours of a playthrough along with many many many various scenes over the years, but also appreciates a good fucking TV show, I believe THIS is as far as it gets for now for a solid video game to tv show adaptation, genuinely well directed and cooked up first episode that honestly has me excited for the rest of the season, and if these trailers are anything to go by we're in for a treat, even the show-onlys are probably going to love this. I'm so glad it was HBO who seized this opportunity rather than it being some Netflix cash-in. Hell, even TWD would've been a spectacularly different experience if it was on HBO rather than whatever we got most likely.

After playing the game and seeing it live action with the amount of details and effort put into this series, i cannot express how big of a smile it puts on my face to know how good this series is going to be.

The scene Sarah got killed is always sad and disturbing. No wonder Joel chose to save Ellie instead of humanity, the infected didn’t killed his daughter, human did.
It was so useless from the soldier too, as if killing a little girl and her dad would make a difference.
Those soldiers should try to build fortifications and estabilish escape routes from the cities instead of patrolling a random river and executing civilians...

Ellie pretending to become infected is so funny it really fits in as her character being all playful and childish
That scene alone is the reason she was chosen to role the of Ellie. She had some solid Ellie moments in the first episode too, such as counting as fast as she can to ten despite being told to do it slowly.
Agreed. She has really nailed the immaturity of Ellie. But I'm really looking forward to seeing her tackle Ellie's more mature side. The thing that I loved about Ellie is that she was simultaneously just a teenage girl but in other ways she was way older than her years. There is a inner strength to her and wisdom that she gained from just surviving in this world. I can't wait to see Bella showing those nuances.

I love that they're expanding on the stories that were just implied or delivered through notes in the game. I really hope we get to know what really happened at the Pittsburgh QZ and what happened to the sewer people.
This is honestly one of the best adaptations I’ve ever seen of a video game it doesn’t try to change the source material the directors know what they’re talking about and respect the game and it has a fantastic cast that fit the game and this is just from the first episode

I actually have my doubts 😅☺️ but after wacthing the first episode I was absolutely and positivity hooked and not disappointed due to the narrative, performance's, screenplay, cinematography, visuals, sound designs, musical score, emotional resonance, action sequences, and characterization was spectacular and phenomenal. The Last Of Us is absolutely and positivity going to be one of the greatest, mind-blowing, exciting, and thrilling live video game adaptation tv shows of all time I guarantee it.😍👍💯😎😏

I just noticed it looks like their making sam deaf, you can see a quick frame where henry is signing to sam. thats a unique twist especially in this world. the fact that hes satyed alive this long without being able to hear. Im interested to see how that works when we get to that episode(s).
I thought I was the only one to have spot that. If they follow the game, how will that work when Sam is split up with Joel? Don't get me wrong, I'm happy they included a deaf character, but it will be fascinating to watch.

This is random but I really hope the story of Ish is still covered. I hope they spend a reasonable enough amount of time in the sewers to find Ish's hideout, Kyle and the childrens remains, and maybe something about Ish's character that we didn't get in the game that could provide a little more information about him and everything done.
Unless they can someone work him in with a disability, maybe a wheelchair, or make sure they know he's black, I doubt it

Same, I've replayed the game in anticipation and walking through the water processing plant with all the kids toys and drawings everywhere is really haunting. It all seems so out of place, and Ish's story is one more tragedy within the world that I hope we get to find out more about.

Pedro pascal and Bella Ramsey are perfect playing the characters so well so far those infected are intimidating as all hell aswell can't wait to see bloaters and clickers done such a amazing job with this so far so many people thought it was gonna be a failure looking forward to episode 2

'in the coming weeks' so not just next episode. I mean we saw scenes of them in Pittsburgh, which they probably won't reach until episode 3 or 4. Also pretty sure that scene of Joel walking through a hallway and aiming his rifle is from the very last episode in the hospital.
Next episode will probably just be the traversing of the skyscrapers, the museum and getting to the Boston State House. Episode 3 getting to Frank in Lincoln and those missions and then episode 4 and 5 Pittsburgh, 1 or 2 episodes finding Tommy in Jackson, 1 or 2 episodes at the university and the whole deal with the survivors and Ellie really coming into her own and then reaching the firefly hospital in the final episode. That makes 9 episodes, as announced. That's my prediction.
Anyway we saw shots of Lincoln and Frank, Pittsburgh and Jackson or the survivors act (the bit in winter) and, as I said, maybe even a shot from the final episode so no definitely not for one episode. This is a teaser of the remainder of the show with an emphasis on episode 2.

@IrkedOffDev Actually Bella Ramsey read lots of hate about her online that damaged her confidence. I think it's mostly Americans. They prefer looks to acting talent. It's why they have so few good actors in comparison to their population.

I guess that spores don't affect people anymore, make sense on a TV show were you need to see them act and perform. Great first episode, there is hope for video game based shows.
It may not have been the time and place for spores.
In TV shows there is a lot of pacing issues etc that need to take place, there's also the issue for information overload.
Spores as a concept are a threat, the show has already introduced another threat.
Therefore, if you save spores for episode 2 or 3, you can increase tension.
In a video game this isn't necessary as spores aren't a pacing issue, they are an in-game mechanic.
@@garyc2630 Yes, but they have shown trailers for the next couple of episodes in all kind of situations including infected and their lairs and no gas masks. We will see I guess.
The creators already said they switched out spores for tendrils because spores were not practical in live action and masks could make the dialogue and emotions harder to convey. That's why the infected have tendrils coming out of their mouths. You have to have contact with these tendrils through a bite or existing wound.

I really like Bella Ramsey. She is acting with her eyes so much. From her few scenes in the first episode and this trailer i can already tell, she is able to show the sass and the attitude, but also the wonder and awe, as well as the desperation and sadness. I think she was a good choice. I dont care what the haters say.
